Love / Valentines Day & Polish men [130]

For those not in the know. That day is the nameday of St. Valentine.
True, commercialism has taken over, but the same thing happened on the Birthday of Jesus Christ or on the nameday of St. Sylvester.
Welcome to capitalism, where every day will be a celebration of something - as long as we can sell you our products.
I am waiting for 'Single woman' and 'Single man' day, 'Cat's day, 'Dog's day'.....the day I found my one true love (let's make that 20th May)...

UK, Ireland / The "Paracetamol Myth" - Polish people hesitate to visit UK doctors. [46]

Polish TV is to blame for most of this. No matter what ailment you have they advertise a cure for it. In fact they advertise cures for ailments you didn't know you had...and these cues are only dietary supplements. In one hour of TV you will get 15 ads for supplements.

People spend a fortune on things that have not been tested and in most instances do not work.
Also people believe that a tablet is a cure for all, when in most instances they suffer from stress, need a good night's rest and to relax. You can tell that they are stressed when you come into contact with anyone in a shop, on the tram/bus or in fact anywhere. And NOBODY smiles.

News / Should Poland exit the EU immediately? [377]

If Poland wanted to EXIT the EU, it would have to pay back to the EU all the grants/monies given to Poland in the last few years. I am not sure how many years the EU would go back. Grants etc are always subject to conditions.

Life / Moving to Poland and not drinking vodka [26]

At one time, (during the communist era) vodka was the only drink available.
Nowadays, people have a choice...I've heard that some people even drink Whisky.....

Work / How does a person join the Poland's army? [39]

In order to be able to speak Polish you will need at least 2 years of learning about 5 or 6 hours a day (this inc. reading, writing, speaking, listening). Can you do that? Otherwise - curtains for you.

Language / Nice Polish phrases to say to men [76]

Kochanie - in this context is correct.
You can of course say :Jestes kochany.or 'Jestes naprawde kochany (not meaning 'you are loved' which is the actual literal translation), but as means of saying thank you that 'you have done something very sweet for me'.

Love / Do Polish Women age well? [153]

Beauty fades.
If a woman is only measured/assessed by others on how she looks - then there is no hope for women over 50 or 60 or even 70.

Generally, in Western countries women tend to look after themselves a bit better now. They have labour-saving devices (washing machines, dishwashers, showers) and in effect more time for themselves. Their independence (or not) of having to go out to work and mix with people has influenced them too.

If a woman sat at home with 6 children under 10 and slaved away hand-washing their clothes, preparing meals for all, she had no time and money to do anything anyway. There is still an attitude in Poland that children should come first, and women are made to feel guilty if their child walks around in 2nd hand/used clothing while they spend their money on hairdressers, botox, manicures or beauty products.

One jar of some latest cream would feed a family of 4 for a week. Obviously the woman would choose the beauty cream and let her family go hungry for a week. NOT.

Law / Plans for starting a company in Poland / cost, types, registration [12]

@brofist
You would be better working for an organization, learning Polish and saving as much as you can. 50,000 PLN, will not be enough to last a year. You have to be a really good speaker of Polish to navigate the formalities and legalities of everything.

Assume that you have to get clients (do you speak their language?), be better than anyone else they know (what do you have that they don't?).

You have only scratched the surface with 3 years experience.
It is extremely unlikely that someone will go in partnership with you, and if they do, you have to watch out that they don't cheat you.

Food / Smalec in a Jar - how to make it better? [19]

You should be put in prison immediately for tempting people to do the same, you are putting temptation in front of their face ......

Travel / Hard Candy - Krakow, Poland - reviews? [131]

Anyone who gets persuaded by two unknown girls to go into a club and buy them drinks - should think whether his reasoning or another part of his anatomy drove him to do that.

Law / Do Poland's taxes apply to foreign pensions? [21]

It all depends whether you are a Polish resident or a Non-resident. I cannot easily determine from your post the country where you are a resident.
