Life / I am being overchanged for water consumption in Poland? Help 1000 PLN? [27]

I have had a look at your bill. You are CORRECT in your assumptions. Obviously someone in the office pressed the wrong key. Your calculations are right. Take someone who speaks good Polish with you and explain to them what has happened. They need to understand this or ask them to explain why the wrong figure has been used.

According to them, their actual calculations are correct EXCEPT that they are using the wrong usage of water in their calculations.

Real Estate / The process of selling a property in Poland [4]

1. You need to make sure who owns the property. Check ksiega wieczysta. Is it the person who has died?
2. Make sure who is listed in the Last Will and testament and if you have any claim.
3. Pay off all outstanding debts - if it is you.
4. Put the property in the hands of an estate agent/realtor.
5. Seek professional advice re tax obligations.
6. Register with the Tax Office that you have been given the property in the Will, that it is inheritance.

Work / The Polish Land Forces (ARMY) - I want to enlist [19]

In order to join the Polish Army you have to submit an application. They are the best people to advice you whether you are even suitable for this type of work. IO belive that the Police are always on the lookout for new recruits.

Work / Photography Jobs in Poland? [5]

Two things: firstly, there are very few (almost none) photographers who need assistants or staff. The market is saturated. Secondly, if you are from an non-EU country, you will encounter prejudice. Some may say that you will be o.k. but the only way to see is to try to go on holiday and go to established photographers and see if they are interested in you. Carry your best work with you to impress them.

Work / English school or beauty salon in Poland? Business option [16]

Rather than a 'beauty salon' offering Botox, look to opening a place where physiotherapists work offering medical massages. People have troubles with their backs and would go in for this. In Krakow, I know that you pay 500-600 pln for 5 hrs of massages.

Work / Minimum wage, multiple jobs and ZUS [3]

It does not matter how many jobs you have or that you do not earn the minimum in any of them. If ZUS states that each job is subject to ZUS payments, then you have to pay. End of.

Law / Prostitution in Poland, is it legal? [24]

Yes you can if you do not pay her beforehand and obtain a receipt for the payment (for tax purposes only). You maybe able to claim this expense as tax-deductible travel expense from your place of business.

Life / Opłatek, not presents, epitomises the true Polish Christmas spirit [85]

Christmas, Easter, Birthday, Nameday, Mother's day, Father's day, Granddad's Day, Grandma's day and all other days ' even 'boys' day' are driven by commerce and industry where the prime aim is for them to force you to buy cards and presents that no one actually needs or wants.

If you buy cards or presents only for the specified days to show how much you care for the recipients, it shows that you do not care for them throughout the year. Better to buy unexpected presents because you want to and not because you have to.

Law / Prostitution in Poland, is it legal? [24]

When talking about the act of prostitution it all depends on who you are. You can run a house where 'attendants' pay by the hour for the purpose of discussing world politics with tall, long-legged blonde girls - and that is perfectly legal. Asking the attractive woman to pay you a fee for 'letting the room out' is also legal. Getting money from grants to renovate the house to the required standard is also legal as long as you can prove that 'attendants' at these conferences will be improving their minds and bodies.

Work / Self-employed American living in Poland? Is it possible? [46]

I looked on-line and prices for the flats in 2016 were 28K pln per metre. You have to pay a monthly fee which maybe 65pln per metre, on a 40m2 flat this is 2,6K pln.

I would assume the prices have now gone up to 35K pln per metre when buying and 70pln per metre for monthly fee.

Real Estate / Landlord in Poland sent us an 7.000 zl bill after moving out. Advice please. [5]

Ignore it completely, but for your peace of mind, prepare yourself a detailed file relating to this let. This should include dates, any monies paid, details when and how much, get copies of your receipts, bank transfers etc. and everything else you can think of, correspondence, phone calls or other people phone calls to him. You should have taken photographs of before and after of the flat - which I assume you have. If not get any photos which show the state of the flat.

Then totally and utterly ignore his bill, but save it.,If he wants to take you to Court, it will take him at least 2 years and he will have to prove first that he has paid tax on the income for the let (I am assuming that you have a legal signed document for the let). He has no chance, but is just frightening you. Every landlord has to do repairs after people move.

If he sends you another letter, go with it all to the police and explain what has happened.
I can guarantee that he is just frightening you and has no intention of doing anything.

The only way to get a job is to ask all businesses which may be in the market for hiring.

Real Estate / Home loan in Poland based on my US credit score? [15]

A person would have to have exceptionally sought-after skills to be able to get an employer to seek working permit for them. If the poster possesses such skills, then the only way is to find an employer to do the necessary paperwork. If anyone thinks that Poland is a cheap country to live in - they are very much mistaken. Without any family connections you will end up on the streets quicker than anything.

UK, Ireland / Polish passport - UK citizen [16]

You will need to prove that your father was a Polish citizen. In order to do that you will need his birth certificate. The Polish army may have some records. Seek help from them and give them as much detail as you can.

Work / Self-employed American living in Poland? Is it possible? [46]

If any US citizen wants to open a bank account, the first thing they will ask is taxes. For staying longer (than a tourist) in Poland you will have to have insurance or be prepared to pay for everything as it happens.

Law / Revocation of Polish citizenship/passport [6]

First - get evidence (documents, photographs) of everything that you paid for. Second, getting a divorce in Poland is not that easy, if she takes it through the Courts it may take 5 or 10 years. If you have Polish citizenship, no one has the right to remove you from Poland EVER.

Genealogy / Skicewicz - Original spelling of last name [6]

Skiczuk - This is very unlikely to be a Polish surname, but it is a Slavic surname. Search on the web for origins of the name, then how often the name appears in different regions of Poland. Go further afield to surrounding countries.

Law / Child care on Poland 500 plus [4]

Read my response once again - 500 plus is payable (if you are entitled to it) from the date you apply. However, the claim for 2 children (1K pln) will only be payable from the date when 500 plus was due for the first child. For the other time span you will get 500 plus for the 2nd child only.
