Life / Public Masturbation now allowed in Sweden, Would this work in Poland? [43]

I remember years ago when my wife and I were on the SouthBank in London one evening and as were returning towards Waterloo Station an IC3 male was standing in a bush furiously w@nking with his T shirt held up under his chin. At the time both of us thought we were hallucinating and were in total disbelief at what we had witnessed and just carried on walking.

UK, Ireland / How has Polish immigration into the UK helped Poland? [48]

From my personal experience I have many Polish friends that have worked and continue to work in the UK and who have bought properties, land and businesses back in Poland. I think the remittance factor is huge, the knock on effect has improved the standards of living for a huge number of Polish people. Those Poles who have sort work in factories or in agriculture, who earn the minimum wage are still able to send money home. £200 sterling can make a huge difference a month to a poor family or elderly parents on a state pension. At the other end of the spectrum professional Polish people in IT, Banking etc in the UK are able to help finance property and businesses for friends and family back home. This all goes along way to explain the big BMWs and Mercs and large properties and luxury flats that have sprung from nowhere over the last 10 years.

Work / Teaching English in Poland? I am American and I have the CELTA certification. [42]

When I taught English in Poland on average I cleared 3500zl a month in the hand for 25 hrs a week at school, working in the evenings and 2000zl a month as a part time Business Development manager work for a local Polish company for 20hrs a week.

So every month I had 5500zl, my wife earned around 4000zl a month teaching (she had more hours) and no mortgage nor rent.

Having said that, I defected back to the UK because I became so incensed with the idiocy I had to deal with at both the language school and the other firm. I returned to my previous profession back in the UK. Now, however, I am returning to Poland on a part-time basis because I will be living half the month in Poland and half the month in the UK working. It is a perfect balance. The beauty of this is that my wife no longer has to work and can concentrate on being a yummy mummy and I only have to work for 6 months in the year.

@OP go for it and good luck, but be warned the EFL trade is a cowboy business riddled with charlatans and foreign chancers.

UK, Ireland / How has Polish immigration into the UK helped Poland? [48]

What have been the benefits to Poland of the mass emigration to the UK and EU?

1) Reduced unemployment in Poland, thus reducing the number of benefits the Polish government has to pay.
2) Remittance of wages earn't abroad, this has boosted the consumer economy in Poland, thus creating more jobs as a result in Poland.
3) With so many young Poles travelling across Europe, this has raised the young peoples awareness of other cultures and languages.

What other positive benefits can people think of for Poland?

And what negative benefits have there been for Poland?

1) A brain drain many of the brightest and best have left Poland, has this resulted in skill shortages in Poland?
2) The division of families across borders.

This post is NOT about the positives or negatives of Polish immigration into the UK, it is a post about the positives or negative for Poland.

2) Nanny 40 hr week

Also would people, pay cash in hand or would it be more sensible to open a company and employ the staff as employees, i.e paying zus etc.

I am trying to collate the info.

UK, Ireland / Are there any UK-based Polish forums where I can advertise jobs? [6]

My advice would be have your job offers written up in Polish, with you companies details etc, then go around all the Polish shops in Glasgow and ask to put the adverts in their windows, bung them a £10 and bob's your uncle. That way you will be directly targeting the local Polish community in their language. Google the phrase 'polski sklep glasgow' and you will have a list of Polish shops you can visit, leave flyers on their counters.

I just visited you site, if your bosses want to spend some money, then have a Polish mirror site for your Website.
If you really want to up your game, either find a Polish recruitment company to partner with or set up your own office in Polska.

Life / Childbirth in Poland - can you please tell your experience? [8]

Hi there, congratulations! First of all. Well going to Poland and having your baby there hopefully will be not the disaster zone the NHS is. My wife is also pregnant at the moment and she is returning to live full time in Poland and have the baby there, we are going to use SwissMed or Medicom not sure which yet.

Don't be freaked out by the 'bribery' thing, it is completely overblown, yes gifts and tips will go along way, but they do in any country. The chances are your medical team will speak English. Going private will take away many of the stresses, you don't need to bride a private doctor, he is already wealthy, private room, more attentive care etc. I am so happy my kid is going to be born in Poland.

At the end of the day, your kid might decided to arrive when you are in the cinema, the middle of the street and then well the whole stress becomes irrelevant.

My advice, don't worry yourself too much, just concentrate on helping your man pursue his career and you staying healthy and being happy and positive.

Go private if you can.

Good luck :)

You can bribe anyone anywhere, everyman has his price.

News / Poland to reject Snowden asylum bid [55]

Snowden has done something other than reveal the USA's Prism snooping system. Perhaps he stumbled on something much much more insidious, classified info way above his pay grade, on realising this he has fled before being disappeared. He has gone public with Prism as a way of trying to gain public support and to try and avoid ending up in a ditch.

Everyone who has half a brain knows the USA has being conducting this snooping for a longtime, so telling us something we already know doesn't really benefit anyone, except himself.

Not is the so distant past a GCHQ operative in the UK, was found dead in a holdall (bag) in his bathroom. Perhaps he tried to run and didn't succeed.

The other thing Snowden has done is assuming he will not end up dead if he is in the public eye, whistleblowers tend to end up dead. For example. Dr.Kelly and the WMD.

Finally by having his citizenship revoked he can now legally be taken out by the CIA. He is an enemy of the state. What out for Drones.... Unlucky for him. At present his safest place is a Russian airport, that sucks.....

Real Estate / Manor House and building plots for sale - how to go about selling my Poland's property? [15]

If anyone can advise me of what is the best way to go about selling my property

Well you could build a facebook page dedicated to the manor, upload lots of good quality photos of the property, plans, surrounding area. Write a more detailed description of the property, perhaps charting the renovation, if you have before and after photos from when you originally bought it that would add interest. Make sure the text is Polish and English. Then get your friends and colleagues to like your property and to ask others to buy it or like it, until hopefully someone makes an offer, perhaps you could ask people to MAKE ME AN OFFER, have a certain target in mind and if someone offers you what you want bingo.

Travel / Gdansk Easter - open on Sunday / Monday? [9]

what is open Sunday / Monday

It depends what you want to do. True many things will be closed, however, the big hotels will be operating as normal. Hotels like the Sheraton in Sopot or Haffner in Gdansk have Sunday lunch buffets with live music. They also have indoor swimming pools, spas and saunas. None of these activities are cheap but if you are at a loss for something to do.....

Travel / Why most taxis in Warsaw cheat foreigners to get more money? [38]

I also took his taxi ID card as I left and dropped it down the nearest drain. The last thing I saw as we drove off in an honest taxi was him trying to fish it out.

good show....lol

This taxi crap business happens all over the world, in London a black cab is expensive but at least you know they aren't going to try and screw you, however, all the mini cab companies legal and illegal will often try and shaft you especially if it is late at night and you are drunk.

I remember falling out of a nightclub in London's West End at 3 am and desperately searching for an unoccupied tax, despite the area being gridlocked. I spotted a car with a guy stuck in the traffic and assumed he was an illegal cabby, i open the passenger door jumped in and slurred, " just get me south of the river".

Eventually after about 10 minutes we arrived near Vauxhall and I told him to stop and asked him how much. He replied, " I don't know I'm not a taxi driver, i'm just returning from work!". Poor bloke was terrified. I apologised quickly stuck a £10 in his hand and jumped out. whoops!

News / Predictions about Poland for 2013 [85]

As usual the thread has been side tracked from the original OP, which is about Poland, not Polish migration to the UK.
So regarding the predictions for 2013, as reported online January 18, 2013,
UPDATE: IMF Approves New Two-Year $33.8 Billion Credit Line for Poland

The credit line established in 2009 between the IMF and Poland has been given another two year extension. This should help stabilise the markets and reassure investors. Due to the Eurozone contraction this affects the demand for Polish exports, however, the zloty is weak at the moment which encourages export, it is a very fine balancing act. Poland's economy is heavily linked with the German economy, the stronger the German economy the more vibrant the Polish economy.

Unfortunately Germany is having to deal with the PIGS and this strain is slowing the German economy down, ipso facto the Polish economy is going be experience less growth this year. But still will grow.

Life / Advocating euthanasia routinely causes scandals in Poland... [63]

Who needs euthansia, when you have the 'Liverpool path way'. This is the humane manner in which we let our elderly die in the UK.

We withdraw, food and water, usually without patient or relative consent and voila within 72 hours the poor bastards are dead.
