Hi

I am aware that most things close down for Easter here, but can anyone indicate what is open Sunday / Monday, and do the trams run those days?

Regards

In most cities they do but no as often as in normal days so it's probably like that in Gdańsk too.

ztm.gda.pl/rozklady -> select a line, then a stop and you've got the schedule under niedziele i świeta (sundays and holidays).

Yeah, the trams run, but almost everything else will be closed except maybe some small shops and the occasional pub/cafe. It'll be like that for two days. Poland is a Catholic country and Easter is the holiest of all Christian holidays and it's taken seriously here. A good thing, in my opinion.

It depends what you want to do. True many things will be closed, however, the big hotels will be operating as normal. Hotels like the Sheraton in Sopot or Haffner in Gdansk have Sunday lunch buffets with live music. They also have indoor swimming pools, spas and saunas. None of these activities are cheap but if you are at a loss for something to do.....

I agree, it's a family holiday so people spend time at home with families and yes it is a good thing, that's how it should be.

It's great unless your family is on the other side of the world and you are sort of sitting here looking at the courtyard needing some contact with the world to rmeind you about the importance of humanity.

Easter in Gdansk

Going to Gdansk this Easter weekend and have just read that it may all be shut down. Anybody know if the pubs are open, that's pretty much all we are interested in.

Yes, there will be pubs open. Some (even many) might close on the Saturday evening and Sunday morning however there will always be somewhere in town open. Especially in Sopot (part of greater Gdansk) where people sometimes go to the hotels. In a worst case scenario, most hotel bars are usually open during the Easter holiday season.
