Real Estate / Best area in Krakow to live? [43]

During winter time it is best to wear face protectors, face masks or scarves across your mouth and avoid being outside from about 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.

If not, you will develop 'smoker's cough.'

Real Estate / Best area in Krakow to live? [43]

I know it's old fashioned, but I would stop people on the street and ask whether they live there and what it is like to live there. people will generally tell you the truth if you say you're thinking of buying in the area. It all depends if you want to be in the centre (noise and all that goes with it) or near parks (to walk a dog for example) or near transport links (bus and tram stops). Walk about the area and ask, always ask.

Also remember that if you buy something - you may wish to sell it in the future - do some research on sale prices.

Work / Regarding demand of physiotherapy in Poland [21]

Most important thing is that you must speak Polish and have recognized qualifications. You must get your qualification recognized and learn sufficient Polish to understand people, their customs, their religion, their values.

Study / British School of Warsaw in Wilanow [73]

The first thing that needs to be considered in employing native speakers, bilingual speakers and locals is the money. If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. There is nothing more to say.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

People must have the right to speak. If everyone sits on their bottom complaining nothing gets done.
The best way of getting anything done in Poland is for all women to withdraw 'sexual copulation' until such time as ALL Government policies are changed.

This would work.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

Premier Szydlo is already 'dead man/woman walking' and it is just a matter of time when all the ills of this Government will land on her door. Someone needs to get blamed and she is the one. Mark my words. She will be asked to relinquish her position in the next 6 months.

More like they are shi******* in their pants as they are scared of losing the next election. But people will remember who was for and who against.

How refreshing to see that the Premier (Mrs. Szydlo) has indicated that this has 'nothing to do with her' - she is innocent of any and all suggestions for change, whereas everyone knows she is just a puppet of 'you know who.'

Life / Is a prescription needed to get morning after pills in Poland? [34]

I always criticized girls who were not 'careful' or who went too far with a man until I myself was in such a situation. Then I knew exactly what they felt, so unless you walk in someone else's shoes you do not know how easy it is for 'emotions' to get the better of you.

A woman howver, should be able to decide what to do with her body whether it is plastic surgery or any other procedure.

Life / Is a prescription needed to get morning after pills in Poland? [34]

Maybe id 'sex education' taught young people (and others) that they have ...at least 40 years to have good sex, they would not be in such a rush to try something new. Forbidden fruit tastes so much better. You will never stop people from indulging in sexual activity, but if they were taught in 'the ins and outs' (sorry, bad choice of words) the consequences of any action, they may just prevent 'unwanted' pregnancies.

It is very difficult, when you are in the throws of passion, to say...o.k. that's as far as we go...

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

I remember asking a couple how often they had sex. They had not been using any contraceptives and wanted to have a baby. The woman told me 'I don't even tell my doctor that'.....this tells you everything

Law / Is it possible to convert my Pakistani driving licence to a Polish one? [46]

You have to check it yourself, but I believe that you HAVE to pass a Polish driving test which consists of a written part and a practical test. The first thing to do is go and ask at any Driving school in Poland. They would have come across this before.

Genealogy / DP camp in Siberia, Resettlement camp in Anglesey? Bardua surname. [9]

Try the Army, a lot of Poles after the war went through the same journey. They were issued with resettlement cards, so search and search.

You will not find names and dates of people sent to Labour Camps in Siberia. Most likely they were destroyed. Recently, I saw a film which clearly showed what went on in the camps. I'll try and find the title, so you can get an idea of what went on.

Found it.

USA, Canada / Poles in America: How do you pronounce your Polish surname? [128]

Szewka - most likely it is connected with a seamstress/dressmaker, however, it is also likely that this is a name for something like a bag/case. This all depends on the region your uncle came from. Do a bit of digging on the internet. I have come across the word 'necesser' for a formal briefcase, so szewka maybe also a bag to carry.

Life / Health insurance in Poland - your suggestions please [35]

If that is the case, then the Health Insurance must be purchased in the country of your origin and not in Poland. You only need your insurance until the day you start studying.

I cannot recommend any health insurance providers in your country of origin.

Life / Health insurance in Poland - your suggestions please [35]

I was under the impression that 'all' students studying at a Polish University are automatically covered by medical insurance.
Is this not the case, or does the medical cover depend on your EU or non-EU status.

Work / Hi, I am Indian and will be shifting to Poland (diploma in Mechanical engineering) [47]

What do you mean by Period?

You have obviously not read this forum from top to bottom. There are very few jobs for the local people, who know the Polish language and very frequently are also fluent in English. They are leaving Poland in their hundreds to seek a better life somewhere else. You cannot even speak the Polish language.

Any prospective employer has to obtain a work permit for anyone from outside the EU. Why should they bother when they can choose from their own candidates?

What can YOU offer a prospective employer than a local person cannot? This is the question you must ask yourself...

Life / Health insurance in Poland - your suggestions please [35]

The cost of any insurance depends on your age, your previous health history and any operations, your intended behaviour ie. dangerous sports. Each of the organizations must have a web page, where you could ask those questions. I would estimate that for around 250-300 pln an average, young, healthy, non smoker, non drinker, non-abuser of hard drugs can be covered.

@zaid diwan
Could you suggest to you what jobs you can actually perform, not knowing the local language and having to face the fact that not many Poles or Polish firms would want to employ you.....
