I'm not sure if it's a serious or an ironic statement of yours, but I would definitely want to avoid a situation that, being a Polish immigrant in the US, I would feel discriminated by Americans just because I bought a piece of land and wanted to build my house there... I don't think the term "Polak" (which means "a Polish man" or a "Pole" and is used in everyday language in Poland) is derogatory at all. If anything "Polack" sounds more offensive than "Polak."
