History / Poland: Her heroes and her traitors [239]

In this post we mentioned general Bołtuć who died in September 1939 leading his soldiers to a bayonette attack.
polishforums.com/history/poland-heroes-traitors-40945/2/#msg1157660

Another hero who gave his life in 1939 was captain Władysław Raginis, who defended Wizna fortifications against massive German attacks. He surrendered his troops but killed himself with a grenade. Honour and Motherland.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C5%82adys%C5%82aw_Raginis

The group Sabaton made a famous song about the defense:

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

Men are also welcome - Polish women are sick and tired of their partners coming from Poland coz some are uneducated, lazy and chavinistic - mostly nationalist movements supporters. Belarussian males would venerate their Polish wives like princesses.

Life / The climate for gardening in Poland [340]

Surprisingly Kiwi fruit grow very well in Poland.

Yes, mini kiwi endures about minus 30. But regular kiwi only minus 10.

Currently I keep 20 mini kiwi bushes and one has already born fruit.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

except the Jews who did it shortly after the birth as a mark to distinguish themselves from most of their neighboring societies.

No, there was another, more practical, reason.

Probably everything but sequoia

But metasequoia does. I have one in my garden - now 2 metres tall but soon it will reach 50.

Will it be ok to ask you to read your comments before you write it?

Hmm, I am afraid it is impossible to read my comments before I write them. Unless you mean mind reading. But I am quite good at it, too, so my comments are always appropriate.

please try to act civil , this is a public forum....

I will always be civil with you unless you are a rightard, neobolshevik or fascist. Simple. hahaha

News / Scandals, conflicts, tensions, arguments - real life examples from Poland [543]

I don't understand why moderators have merged your thread with this one here.

They must suffer from some kind of obsession - whenever LGBT is mentioned, sth strange happens to it. hahaha E.g., the thread Post Election Political Scene was closed after we discussed LGBT there. So funny.......

Thank you very much for voicing your opinion - you are one of few decent people here. Those rightards and fascists are really hopeless. Christian values! hahahaha

Merged:

LGBT news from Poland

Michael Szutowicz, called Margot, a nonbinary activist, has just been released after 3 weeks of pretrial arrest. It seems the authorities got worried with bad publicity that Poland received after this detention. Pressure from various institutions and organisations, including human rights ones, has led to the release.

Why was she arrested? Read about it here:

awaiting trial for allegedly causing damage to a truck promoting false anti-LGBT propaganda

At last some refugees in Poland. Poles will be able to practise their Christianity, not only in theory during Sunday mass service but also in reality. Better late than never.

Piotr Szczepanik, singer. He sang beautiful romantic ballads in 1960s, but when I heard them in early 1970s, I was fascinated. And I still listen to them when driving.

But, that's what makes them so dangerous. A rat is most aggressive when cornered.

yes, indeed, when cornered, dictatorships do crazy things. E..g, Argentinian junta, cornered by an economic crisis, started the war about the Falklands in 1982. The Kremlin might also try to divert their society`s attention from internal problems by another "Crimea recovery."

Shyt, we are stuck in this fekking part of Europe and can`t get out. hahahaha

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1450]

What? We forgot about our wonderful food thread??? Shame on us.

Joohny, I keep your most awesome posts in my archives, I learnt it from you, do you remember how you mentioned your barbecue occasion on 12th July?

Then stop at the market to get a couple of family packs of chicken wings to get marinating for the grill later this evening for another BBQ after a swim at the beach. What a beautiful summer. Damn life is good.

polanda.com/off-topic/random-chat-74400/1929/#msg1746086

Yes, I agreed with you that life is/was so good.
I found it most fascinating you mentioned only chicken wings. Was it because of diet and health reasons? I am asking coz we still don`t care about health when we have a barbecue. Not only do we use an old charcoal grill (cancer from smoke) but we also consume most fattening meats from it. Luckily, it happens once in fortnight and mostly in summer, sometimes spring, too.

What horrible unhealthy foods do we have? I like wings, too. My family also like Polish sausage and pork slices of: ham, neck, bacon in various marinades, e.g. chilli or apricot. Plus chicken or pork schishkebab. And various other staff.

We seldom use our own marinades coz those supermarket ones are OK to us. Yes, I know, they are full of artificial stuff but we don`t care.

Oh, and we grill potatoes at the same time.

Life / Mishmash facts about Poland and Poles [187]

Seal landings on Polish beaches is a new phenomenon. That is why Poles don`t know how to behave - they come too close to take a photo and scare animals in result. So, if you spot a seal on a beach, let it rest.

There is probably no Slavic nation in which R1a is close to 100%.

It means no Slavic nation is truly Slavic? What a shame.

History / Modern myths and legends about communist past in Poland [250]

It isn`t a myth that certain complex products were extremely expensive for average Poles. E..g, cars. If one had a car in 1960s, 70s or even 80s, they were considered wealthy.

E.g, average pay in late 1970s was about 5000 PLN. The smallest car, Baby Fiat, cost 87.000 at a state price. However, to buy it from the state one needed a special voucher. Without it, one had to visit an open air market where a Baby Fiat cost 120.000 plus.

Imagine how long one had to save to afford a simple car.

autocentrum.pl/publikacje/historia-motoryzacji/historia-polskiej-motoryzacji-ile-kosztowal-samochod-40-lat-temu/

I drove Baby Fiat in early 1980s. I knew a few books about it by heart. With pro publications, I was able to pull out the engine to repair the clutch.

Travel / Hiking and Camping Trails in Poland [51]

that I would be most interested in on my visit to Poland.

Yes, but we are talking about mountain hiking which can be quite strenuous (though Beskid Mountains aren`t as demanding as Tatras). Are you fit enough to face the challenge?

Hiking in the back country you will meet the humble Polish people who are not out to impress anyone.

Hmm, they will still try to impress you, e.g., with the number of sheep they keep or amount of vodka they are able to gulp.

Look, Beskid Mountains impression competition - my hat is bigger than yours. Ha!

distance itself from Vatican,

Some members of top Polish Church are already doing it - they openly resist certain guides from the Pope, e..g, the ones about fighting pedophilia etc.

History / Old Polish Flag [17]

Should Poland switch back to the snow white/Vermillion flag?

Hmm, rarely does it happen here in case of Polish historical/political issues but I have to admit that I have no idea without googling what you are talking about.
