History / POLISH AND RUSSIAN FRIENDSHIP WILL LAST FOREVER [513]

ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4587086,00.html

The videos are from 2013 and my link is from 2014.
My point is that it's really easy to accuse other countries of propaganda, or Jews of pretty much everything.

Genealogy / Polish looks? - part 2 [72]

@valporaiso
Did your grandma tell you you were of Polish or Jewish origin?
There's something about your cheekbones that may suggest Polish origin but it might be just a suggestion. You look European.

Genealogy / What does my Polish name mean? [401]

@Myquest
According to what I found it may be derived from Luty (February) or its old meaning: severe, wild, cruel or freezing, cold; or from lutowac się - to struggle; or from the first name Lutobor.

Genealogy / WWII Polish Military information / WWII artillery units [25]

The man from the article was Jewish. Pakentreger doesn't seem to be a very popular surname in Poland.
There's also a site with two of his photos. It contains information from the IPN ...

The surname you mention may suggest either German or Jewish origin. There's an article on Wiki about an Aleksander Packentrager but it doesn't mention Eindhoven. It does mention places in Germany, though.

Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [173]

A nice bouquet of flowers for the mother and a bottle of good alcohol for the father would be the traditional gifts.
If they're picking you up from the airport, flowers will be difficult so perhaps a nice box of chocolates.
If they don't drink, don't buy alcohol. Perhaps some nice blend of coffee?
Ask your wife again and explain you really want to get them something. She may have some ideas.

Genealogy / What does my Polish name mean? [401]

Myszka literally means Little mouse but it's probably not the origin of the name. It might be of the same origin as Kaszubian Myszk, Myszek, Miszke etc derived from the name Myślibór (literally one who thinks about fighting. Another idea is that it's derived from 'muskul, mięsień'- muscle. Apparently myszka was also used to name a horse's coat colour. That's the information I found online and all of these might be the origin of the surname.

As for Hudy, it's a misspelling of 'chudy'- 'thin'. They're pronounced in the same manner. Similarly, Chudzik and Hudzik are both used as surnames in Poland. Chudy used to also mean'poor' or 'infertile' when referred to soil/land.

I don't remember much from my Russian classes but I think good is pronounced harasho so chrust does make more sense. Anyway, it sounds Ukrainian for sure.

According to Stankiewicz it's derived from chrust/chrost- brushwood with Ukrainian phonetics.

Life / Polish and Czechs [191]

It's funny how hypocritical you are. When Jews betrayed their own kind, you claim they did it for their own safety. Even if they did it for money. When you talk about Poles, you accuse them of innate antisemitism, you can't help blaming Catholicism and so on.

You see - it's you who's prejudiced against Poles and Catholics - not all Poles are Catholic, just like not all Catholic are Polish, BTW.

The difference between me and you is that I condemn people of any nation or ethnicity that had bo respect for others' lives but you come up with excuses for your folk.

What do you know about Poland then or now anyway? You just come here to give vent to your anti-Polish sentiments.

Is there anything you can contribute to this forum except for accusing Poles of antisemitism?
Is there nothing else you can talk about except for aantisemitism and Holocaust when it comes to Jews?

He used polsky as a noun - why not Polaci? Polsky is an adjective.
I don't know Czech but shouldn't 'polsky' change its form?

So there was just one Polish tank in Czechoslovakia in 1968?

@Taxpaying voter
That part about Jesus being a pacifist wasn't mocking, right ...
And comparing these two uprisings is a misunderstanding.
But hello, you're on a trolling war so who cares.

Probably a variant/misspelling of Uliasz which is more popular. Both probably derived from ul-beehive.
Dziewit might have been derived from David or dziewka-young woman. Anna Dziewit-Meller is a journalist.
Both have about 1000 users each.

@Lyzko
Neither were all Polish Jews. Think of Jewish kapos, Chaim Rumkowski or any people like him. Yet another chance to insult Poles, though, huh? You little biased man.

@Taxpaying voter
What you wrote here about the Warsaw Uprising proves you're exactly what people say you are. You obviously deserve every single insult you get here. Mocking Warsaw insurgents, the Wola massacre and tens of thousands of other deaths and the people's struggle is despisable.

The Prague Uprising lasted three days ... in May 1945. It wasn't the uprising that drove the Nazis away. It was the Red Army that entered the city the following day. Where was the Red Army during the Warsaw Uprising?

@Jamaj
How about Polish forced labourers on Czech farms during WW2?
Anyway, are you Czech? Why do you have to 'prove' it by adding odd Czech words in every single post?

As for Polish-Czech relations, thank you -we're fine. We get along. Unless somebody is a je.rk.
Or a troll.

News / Americans incite hatred towards Russia in Polish media [75]

@mafketis
Agreed.
Some Polish people like Russian literature, music and culture but I don't know a single Pole who supports their politics.

As for the troll, I wonder if he's really Czech. If so why does he have to emphasise it in every post?

You obviously didn't get enough fibre. Or exercise. You shouldn't spend so much time trolling online - that's not good for your digestion.

As for part time jobs with little knowledge of Polish, you don't have too many oppprtunities.

Life / To Poles: some food for thought [31]

If you have never met a non ignorant Pole, I'm sorry for you.
How about you? Are you Polish? Are you ignorant, xenophobic and racist?
Don't overgeneralise. There are gay and mixed race Poles, and there are loads of tolerant people. As for racists and xenophobes, well, look around, read the news, there are more and more radicalised sentiments everywhere.

It's disturbing but doesn't apply to Poles only.

Language / Spelling "aunt" in Polish [142]

@JeannineZ
Babka is Polish, too.
So is ciotka.
But Slavic languages are similar.

I think the key word here is 'ruski' in Polish which isn't only Russian but Ruthenian and that may also indicate Ukrainians and Belarusians.

I guess your Polish family came from Kresy.

@JeannineZ
I think your grandma spoke Belarusian - bialoruski, literally white Russian/Ruthenian. It still exists and you can look it up, check the words etc.

Babci and cioci are genitive forms of babcia and ciocia in Polish. Not sure about Belarusian but you can look them up.

historia.nowemiasto.zhp.wlkp.pl/kronika/w-powstaniu-wielkopolskim-i-dalszych-walkach-o-granice-rzeczypospolitej

The site above is in Polish but the article is about scouts who took part in different battles and at the bottom of the page you'll find Józef Trafas, a scout who was awarded the Cross of Valour. Is there a chance it was this medal rather than Virtuti Militari? Or might have got both. Or it's a different Józef Trafas.

You may also contact Centralne Archiwum Wojskowe.
