Language / I'm native Polish and I hate my own language. [106]

Its first language is of course Russian.

Rich a little exercise for you (to prove you are Polish by birth): translate this little dialogue below:

- I'll tell mom.

- Don't tell mom.

PS. I bet Russians can't do that

PiS nomenklatura

gazeta.pl has estimated that around 900 positions (September 2021) in state owned companies are held by 'PiS cronies' -

in contrast money.pl (and Dziennik Gazete Prawna) wrote in 2012 that more than 8000 thousands people were to thank their position in similar roles due to contacts with people in PO-PSL coalition

in the late 1990s people were talking about an impending energy collapse in Russia

are the prices affordable at least? can an average retired person manage to pay electricity bills?

gigawatts worth of new generating capacity with no further incentive

you probably mean electric plants fueled by Russian gas - no thank you - as for nuclear power we can do the same I guess (but maybe I'm wrong)

investable.

what do you mean by investable? Poland doesn't vie for 'capital' investors in energy sector - quite on the contrary (at least as long as PiS is in power - those thieves from PO and associates would privatise everything - they are 'pro-business', ya know)

Ok. That means Polish coal producers are losing $140 on every ton mined

the producers are (almost entirely) state-owned companies (and not big capital or oligarch owned) and don't need to generate profit beyond what is necessary to continue operation, darling :)

Who pays for these subsidies

yes there are subsidies to coal mining in Poland (mostly indirect subsidies - like the subsidising of miners' pensions) - it is all worth it if you ask me - thanks to energy sector being state owned he have (in a sense used to have) cheap and stable electricity

as for retail buyers of coal, Poland allows for import from Russia and elsewher - that's one - two: coal heating is still the cheapest option if you live in the countryside and don't have access to gas grid (which is my case)

The coal is of higher quality and cheaper when imported from Russia,

we cannot rely on Russians to supply us for political reasons (the same reasons why Poland is trying to end dependency on Russian gas) - also if you didn't notice the price of coal on the world markets fluctuates heavily - the current price on the european markets is around 200 dollars per ton (and it was less than 125 $ at the end of June) - at the same time Polish power plants buy Polish coal at less than 60 dollars a ton

Most water used in coal mining can't be reused or put back in the system and then there's evaporation of water

ok I admit - I have very limited knowledge of how Polish coal mines look like - maybe the ground water they have to get rid of (I suppose you agree there is ground water in Polish mines) is not enough or too poor quality to use directly in mining processes (if it is too poor quality the limitation would be the efficiency of cleansing facilities) - so yeah I don't really know if mines use up water from elsewhere (but I somehow doubt it)

I know though there are ground waters in the mines here in Poland and they need to get rid of it : I just read the first sentences of a document about minining in Silesia and it states this: (google translate is your friend)

" Wraz z wydobyciem złóż węgla kamiennego z kopalń w Górno-śląskim Zagłębiu Węglowym (GZW) nieodzowne jest wytłoczenie na powierzchnię znacznych ilości wód podziemnych, których obecność wynika z poziomej i pionowej strefowości hydrogeochemicznej w obszarze

tego basenu węglowego"

the bolding is mine of course

There is groundwater everywhere, not just inside mines,

if you didn't notice even oceans have limited volume - as for subsoil groundwaters (in areas without mining) they are simply replenished by rainfall - at least here in Europe

About a ton of water is needed to mine a ton of coal. I

there is enough ground water in Polish mines as far as I know

One of them is about 50km

50 km is enough for a mine to have a minimal influence on ground waters

News / How strongly are Poles sure that president Duda defend Poland's interests ? [251]

He also describes how Wałęsa negotiated the fast withdrawal of Soviet troops from Poland.

hehe fast withdrawal - 1989 till 1993 - Wałęsa also wanted to give the former Soviet garrisons a quasi ex-territorial status for Russian businesse to operate in Poland -

also noteworthy: Jerzy Marek Nowakowski left PiS in 2007 :) - enough said for me

As far as I know, the two hydro plants in Silesia,

the Porąbka dam is used as a lower reservoir and there is an upper reservoir called Żar (they are in the current Silesian voievodship)

Poland doesn't lack hydro,

Poland has limited amound of hydroenergetic potential in the same manner as Sahara

yes, his aims to gain power, promote himself and boast around the world

however solar does have immense value

solar plants are perfectly ok in Sahara, hydroelectric power is grand for Norway - however Poland had neither the reliable sunshine nor enough hydroelectric potential -

even combining the two (as in pumping water from a lower level reservoir to a higher level reservoir during the day to supply energy at night) won't be enough for Polish economy

- (nota bene - the two reservoir method was used in the past in exactly the opposite manner - to fill up the upper reservoir at night so electricity was produced during the time of heaviest usage ie. during the day(industry) and evening(homesteads)

there are a couple of coal mines in Małopolska and there are a couple of hydro electric power plants in the region too.

all those hydro plants in Małopolska are located in the Karpathian mountains and are far from coal-bearing regions - trust me - I know Polish geography quite well

there is a dam in the Silesian coal-bearing region (Goczałkowice on the Wisła river) -but it's main purpose is to supply parts of Silesia with water - (I don't know if there are any power generators there but even if there are they are a minor source)

is lost in the cooling process.

you probably mean electricity generating from burning coal (or lignite) - yes the energetic sector uses up some whater but the biggest Polish coal plants are located on the major rivers (and yes severe hydrological drought may cause disruptions in their work) - they are also located all around Poland -

if you claim that Poland has not prepared for severe droughts (and blame PiS for that) I'd like to point you to a severe drought in Germany and Sweden in 2018 (even Ireland experienced an odd drought that year if I recall correctly) - would you say that they have prepared well for such an occurrence in those countries

then it's stored by batteries

no one has so far discovered batteries that would store enough energy that would supply a domestic household a mere month and you are talking about half of the year

a method to boast and promote himself - yes, indeed

Actually some hydro plants in Poland are located in mining regions

you are talking nonsense Atch - no hydro plant is located in mining areas - also coal mining doesn't use up water - it just pumps it out from the pits/mines into rivers

you should sometimes think twice before saying some other people are incompetent

also mining areas comprise about 5 per cent of the Polish territory - the drought in Poland in recent years was caused simply by smaller than usual rainfall (and also higher than usual temperatures)

News / Years of Poland in the EU - assessment of pros and cons [1158]

show PiS is not the most popular among voters any longer. They were for a long time, but its over.

I don't really know what you mean: if you mean that PiS is not the party with the biggest support then you are wrong but if you mean that the opposition parties together have more support it is indeed true - but remember the last election: PiS got 43 per cent of votes that translated into the majority in the parliament

News / Polish PM Tusk- dictator or not? What Poles think? [421]

PiS` inborn lying nature to the EU having right or not of freezing funds

as for Buda's statement, I believe he experssed his conviction on the final outcome of the situation with the EU and the so called 'LGBT free regions' - you don't lie if you express your conviction :)
