In 1944 Germans tried to encourage Polish men in occupied part of Poland to join the auxiliary units supporting the German army. They hoped that 150 thousand Poles would volunteer.

The Germans not only did not accept this state of affairs, but also... denied the facts. In their opinion, as many as 9,000 volunteers showed up at the recruitment points! On paper, the recruitment rate actually looked good. How is that possible? The answer is surprisingly simple. Registration of candidates began with the number five thousand. In addition, some of the "volunteers" were probably prisoners released in exchange for joining a collaborationist formation.

In 1990s new programmes appeared. Instead of intellectual Great Game, simpletons could watch less demanding game shows. One of them was Wheel of Fortune. It was so popular that I even played this game with my students in class.

Waldemar Marszałek has died.
Legendary sportsman was 82. He had six world championship titles and four gold medals at the Old Continent motorboat championships.

I must admit he was my role model in 1980s when he won most of his gold medals. He had a few accidents on water, one was very serious with fatal injuries but he always recovered and returned to racing. His attitude taught me to act the same in life - never give up and pursue your goals or passions despite temporary setbacks.

Could be much much better but it isn`t due to the divisions in the Polish nation. There are decent intelligent Poles/Polesses and there are homo sovieticuses or rightist bolsheviks here. These groups refuse to cooperate with each other to Make Poland Great Again. In the past, such divisions led to partitions of the Polish state which lasted for 123 years. Today the new partitions are out of question, of course, thanks to our membership in the EU and NATO. I fear to imagine what could happen if we weren`t.

As for divisions - I am part of it. I refuse to acknowledge homo sovieticuses and rightists and nationalists who are too stupid to understand their agenda means the destruction of Poland. Or not so stupid but on Putin`s payroll.

Today it is a wet day. I went out to work in the garden at 7 as usual. In the field next to mine I saw my neighbours collecting their crops. We were working side by side until 9 am when it started to rain. I came back home but they stayed and went on with work. Amasing dedication!!!

Romuald Traugutt was a hero. Today is the anniversary of his execution by Russian barbarians on 5 Aug 1864. He was the last commander of the January Uprising. Caught by Russians and hanged in Warsaw together with other leaders.
Interestingly, Traugutt first served in the Russian army for long years and became a high rank officer for his merits in various Russian campaigns in revolted Hungary or Turkey.
