Study / Msc Mining & Power at Wroclaw University [6]

the school is reputable. English courses are probably made solely for students from Angola and Nigeria as Poland has some government agreement with those countries dealing with education in mining sector. Recently a polish school program has been opened in one of those countries ...cooper mining being main concern . As for admission ..as long as you pay and have some prior education you should be admitted. I didn't really study the subject , just read on it here and there some time ago.

News / Too much history in Poland? [7]

Some of the so many historical reenactment events like ...Wolyn massacre where they build straw houses, set them on fire and run around with pitchforks pretending the murder are so annoying. It has often nothing to do with commemorating victims or educating, rather being a form of silly entertainment. After Wolyn reenactment I'm waiting for some to show us reenactment of holocaust in concentration camps...

too much history

Travel / Jezioro Roznowskie [3]

You probably mean Jezioro Rożnowskie (not Rosnowskie). You can get there by bus to Tęgoborze (2hrs, 16 zl one way); all buses toward Nowy Sącz..

Some land for sale offers in this area -by J. Rożnowskie: mieszkania.trovit.pl/dzialka-jezioro-ro%C5%BCnowskie

You could take a boat trip ; take off from Gródek n. Dunajcem toward Rożnów

Work / Is there a market for teaching Dutch in Poland [22]

Wroclaw would be special with so many offers as they apparently have Dutch language department at university there so I think graduates and students would offer classes. Few natives, at least on this website which is entirely polish so no surprise. Many are certified though or they claim so.

Law / US citizen looking to live in Poland for 6+ months like a long-term tourist [51]

Poland National D-type visa from: msz.gov.pl/en/travel_to_poland/visa/

If you intend to stay in the territory of Poland for a total of more than 90 days (at least 91 days) during one or more visits within a half-year period calculated from the date of first entry, you need to apply for a national D-type visa.

The national D-type visa entitles the holder to:
- stay in the territory of Poland throughout the period of its validity;
- additionally move within the territory of other Schengen states for up to three months within a half-year period.

What documents do you need when submitting a D-type national visa application?

1. Travel document:
2. Completed and signed visa application form.
3. Biometric photo.
4. Visa fee.
5. Health insurance.
6. Supplementary documents confirming:
- the purpose of the visit,
- possession of sufficient funds to cover the cost of entry, stay and departure from theterritory of Poland;
- the necessity of staying in the territory of Poland for more than 90 days within a half-year period.

The types and number of supplementary documents may differ depending on the consular office. In this connection we advise you to contact the relevant consulate to obtain full information concerning the documents needed when submitting a visa application.

you are only allowed to stay for 90 out of 180 days in any Schengen country; I heard you could extend your stay but for few days, maybe weeks; better search "extending Schengen visa"...you may overstay with not much problems yet once you leave you'd be banned from Schengen for long time. Your best option would be to get some volunteering or perhaps job or any other papperwork proving you'd have reason to stay for longer then tourist permit. It can be done yet better for you would be to have it all settled before the trip. Once you land here on tourist visa it might get difficult to change your status.

Travel / Need advice for a tour of eastern Poland [22]

You can get very close to Treblinka by train from Warsaw Central train station. Take train to MALKINIA which is some 4 km away from the museum. The trip takes usually less then 2 hrs.

For train schedule to Malkinia see:

rozklad-pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en?

For accommodation see museum site:

treblinka.bho.pl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=219&Itemid=146

Warsaw to Lublin (Majdanek) by train takes over 2 hrs. It is fairly easy to get to Majdanek museum from Lublin and no problem with finding accommodation in Lublin itself

majdanek.eu/index.php?lng=1

From Lublin to Sobibor you can get by taking a bus from Lublin to Wlodawa (1.5 hr) - Wlodawa is some 10 km from Sobibor and has severala hotels to choose from

belzec.eu/articles.php?acid=101&mref=42

Lublin to Zamosc by train 2hrs and from Zamosc to Tomaszow Lubelski by bus - schedule:

bigbus.pl/zamosc_tomaszow.php

From Tomaszow Lubelski to Belzec 10 km - could be a bus going there or take a taxi

Language / Niech będzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus - a religious greeting? [39]

You can safely use Niech Będzie Pochwalony toward older people in villages, eastern Poland. This would be advantageous when asking for directions, water, permission to camp on their property; it would inform you are catholic and they could expect proper to Catholics behavior from you. Particularly useful addressing older and poor. Flashing a small picture of St. Mary or other saint or polish pope from within your wallet would get you even further. If you're not catholic - didn't grew up as one - don't use it - your phony manners would be soon discovered.

Life / School and stadium violence in Poland? [21]

Folks....the root causes of violence are known very well yet you and others don't want to know and accept this truth. Contrary to what some here advocate it is violence toward children, usually performed by their parents that would produce violent kids. Do you think Adolf Hitler or Stalin, Khadafi etc had bad genes? No! Their childhood was a nightmare , well documented now.

Why are so few people who THINK and FEEL are not outraged openly when millions or children are beaten daily. It surely is a crime and not approved to beat a grown up but you can beat a child without outrage. Pope would ask for mercy for Sadam yet would never utter a word toward catholics to stop beating children.

Anyway as you don't know and don't want to know your OWN history you are likely to not accept the truth ...
And for those who think they were beaten and turned out ok: you may as well turned out to be violent toward others or yourself - no kidding.

Real Estate / May you confirm that Podgórze (Kraków) is a great area to live in? [13]

odajay
You have a dog so anywhere close to Bednarskiego Park would be advantage. Podgorze has many open green places anyway and lots of dogs in Krakow or anywhere in Poland, you're bound to step into some poop on sidewalk as well. it's mixture of industrial and residential area, fine if you want to avoid Krakow tourists and you want to avoid tourists when living in Krakow....Overall good location to live......fulfills all your criteria I think. Me not from Krakow but been wondering around Podgorze some time ago visiting Kazimierz, public transport in Krakow is great day and night so would be no problem joining the action on Krakow Old Town. Good luck and welcome.
