News / Germany - We won't let Poland drown! [28]

Until very recently (before PiS came to power) Deutschland was Poland's closest ally within EU and in the world I dare-say...

Travel / Gdansk - where to go and what's cool to see? [25]

I suggest exploring the coast (especially coming from SK).
I would definitely visit the Hel Peninsula (fear not - it is not Hell ;-)).
Enjoy.

Powodzenia.

Law / Your experience as a foreigner running a small business in Poland [43]

Russians invaded our airspace yesterday

Are thou refereing to the Baltic incident with the US warship? If so, this took place on international waters if I'm not mistaken...

if you are after fresh air

But not healthy - especially in the south of the country, cities like Kraków are some of the worst in EU...

Work / Polish Canadian going back to Poland question - best city for computer networking / software development work [7]

I'm mostly a vegetarian with the addition of fish

Poland is not a vegetarian's paradise - options/variety is quite limited by comparison to the West, but I suppose you know that already. In general, Poles don't really care about balanced and healthy eating - as evidenced by the plague of overweight/obese children and teens in recent years - one of the worst in EU...;-(

Ideally I would like to run a small business as opposed to working for a company.

If I had any chance of securing some work remotely, which is not uncommon in IT, I would arrange that prior to leaving. This way you will be less exposed to pressure until your business catches on and start generating a liveable income...

Work / Polish Canadian going back to Poland question - best city for computer networking / software development work [7]

I think it will be very tough doing it cold turkey, without some sort of connections or another way to introduce you into the market... Hope to be wrong, but best get ready for a big shock in terms of how employees are treated in a typical company... something tells me it won't be long before you'll start missing Canadian bacon and maple syrup ;-)

Kraków is great for a visit, but to live in one of the most polluted cities in EU I would not recommend... you might want to try Warsaw/Wrocław perhaps... good luck and let us know how you are getting on.

Travel / Can I visit Belarus in the rental car from Poland ? [17]

But the question arises - why would he want to?

Not to be cheeky, but the short answer would be: not any of your business - the OP has not asked for a reason.
Stick to the topic.

Travel / BBC'S Hairy Bikers come to Poland [13]

Thanks for that link jon357 - that was entertaining. I ended up watching two other episodes: Baltic States and Russia. I must admit the Baltic States one was a bit dry in comparison, and I equally enjoyed the one on Russia (makes me want to drive to Leningrad one summer for the white nights).

USA, Canada / Poles in Buffalo, NY [16]

Not many Poles there nowadays; they're just Americans of nth generation Polish descent... but many of them do seem to continue some of their forefathers' traditions...

BTW Have you seen Buffalo '66?

UK, Ireland / The "Paracetamol Myth" - Polish people hesitate to visit UK doctors. [46]

No doubt the pharmaceutical companies are getting fat in Poland as Poles have got to be in the top 3 pill users in EU (think only French and Italians are worse)... there seems to be a pill/ointment/etc. for virtually even the slightest hint of discomfort...

One major drawback over Poland is that the NHS is in such a bad shape that it does not spend nearly enough on prevention... and we all know that 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure'.

To make things worse, there is no affordable private practice alternative like there is in Poland where you could get your blood work or whatever lab tests done on a regular basis to monitor the key parameters without spending a fortune.

Life / How much to convert a petrol car 1.4 cm3 or 1.6 cm3 to LPG in Poland? [7]

hey my friend i would like to ask you about the type of your car

this will depends on the type of engine of your car - best thing is to google and read more about.

where have u change it to LPG?

again, google is your friend - you will no doubt find a reliable installer in your area.

A friend of mine paid 6000, and I've heard of places that go as low as 1500.

Correct - the 6000pln would be for the direct injected engines.

The key is good maintenance - especially as the quality of LPG is unreliable in PL due to lax standards at filling stations, so the filters need to be changed more often than the recommended interval, plus have the system hooked to the computer regularly if you drive a lot.

News / World's 'most wanted man' (a Pole) found working at British Subway restaurant [43]

thyroid problems

I'm sure there's a tiny % of population with allergies or worse problems as such - that doesn't mean it's not a good diet for the remaining say 98-99%... that with other vegetables, oats, etc - and we get a simple, healthy diet... so healthy food is neither fancy nor expensive.

Just listened to an interview with a bloke who competes in not only iron-man, but ultra-man triathlon events - and guess what: apparently 100% vegan with simple diet... says he recovers quicker without animal products at all...

cooking cabbage all day, what a smell

That's true, but inmates don't cook meals in their cells...

Po polsku / Jak zwykle chodzi o kasę! [48]

nikt by Polski stawiał pod pręgierzem

Travel / Crossing The Poland-Lithuania Border: Suwałki to Kaunas [5]

Not many options, unfortunately, as there is nothing at the road border crossing left except for a dingy shop, and the rail line you mention hasn't been even started on the other side.

It's a shame there isn't any better and more frequent direct service as that's the nearest airport only 140km away - so much closer than Warsaw.

Try blablacar....

Po polsku / Jak zwykle chodzi o kasę! [48]

Life / Water in Warsaw in mid-January 2016 or .... 1916 [10]

Poles need to start demanding to be treated properly and fighting for dignity!

Why don't you lead the flight - you certainly seem very concerned... and that also would put your negative energy to positive use!
