Life / What is the best city in Poland to live in? Relocating to Poznan? [41]

Also, I heard something like Warszawianie are not like other Polish people, so to say they are less friendly and more egoistic? ;)

Yup. There is common opinion that they are scum collected from whole Polish countryside. Nobody likes them especially when they do bydło in Masuria.

Gdańsk is my favourite town so I recommend 3city ;)

Po polsku / DZIEŃ POLAKA? Dlaczego w Polsce nie ma pracy? [12]

Dlaczego, k...., w Polsce nie ma pracy ?

Polska jest jak jeden wielki kurort. Wszyscy są na wakacjach. Wydają, odpoczywaja, bawia się a skąd maja pieniądze? Nie interesuj sie kolego. Jest takie powiedzonko gruby schudnie chudy zdechnie. Polska jest obecnie w fazie wydawania. Piękni 40 letni żondzom. Posprzedawali ojcowizne pod hipermarkety i pociskają kaszkajami a młodych 20 latków ma sie w d no bo przecież mamy kapitalizm no nie ;)

piękny 40 letni ;)

Travel / My visit to Poland - Likes & Dislikes. [137]

No need to go on defensive when someone is saying what could be improved.

But I like graffitti so what could be improved (in Olsztyn)?
More walls designed for graffitti artists?

Work / CV/Resume style standards in Poland [17]

My order is as follow:

- Personal information (name, e-mail, phone, languages).
- Work skills. listing in bullet point form, my key strengths.
- Short (2 paragraphs at the most) summary of experience and strengths.
- Work experience. This is a multi-page dot point section outlining company/department
names + dates, and detailed responsibilities in bullet points.
- Education summary (University name and years attended + any certificates)

If they ask me for a photo or address in CV and at the same time salary is the most top secret data I give them middle finger. I'm not going to spread my personal data at that level of recruitment process. I apply for electronics technician not for the model post.

Life / Cost of Utilities in Warsaw. [23]

I install meters (podlicznik) from time to time and it is very uncommon to let apartment without its own meter. It costs about 200zł so even compared with bills it is worth to take the trouble to clear this strange situation.

Genealogy / BIALIK / Bialek, Kotecki, Witucki, Ezdebski Families - Jaslo and Poznan [17]

So, would it be right to say the "Bialikowie" family?

Adam Bialik i Ewa Bialik.
Rodzina Bialików przyjechała tydzień temu.
Bialikowie kupili sobie nowe auto.

And, why is it that I've heard that the proper plural is "Bialika"?

niebardzo proper :)

Life / Electricity in Poland: plug and voltage? [73]

but will my stuff get fried if I turn it on?

Probably not. Majority of modern, external switching adaptors tolerate input voltage from 100V to 240V so US 110V and EU 230V standard may be covered by one device. They produce 18.5V or 19V output voltage (Hewlett Packard). Check the label on adaptor.

But if you plug in non intelligent 110V device like hair dryer or bulb into 230V socket it may burn or blow up

Life / SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT POLAND AND POLISH SOCIETY [297]

british cashiers are lazy as hell and they turn the products around 3 times before they even find the barcode!

They respect their work. I like this point of view :)

Life / SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT POLAND AND POLISH SOCIETY [297]

7. Poles are mostly intrested in domestic affairs and not much intrested in International affairs.

Agree. Especially what happened in Middle East but it looks like Middle East is still interested in Poles ;)

Life / Why so many Poles use a second hands clothes? [110]

Have you ever seen pants for sale in these shops? :)

In REAL pair of jeans costs ~25zł so I suppose it must be kind of bargain hunt ;)

Language / popełnić (extended usage)? [5]

Coupla years ago I heard a Polish teenager say "muszę popełnić wypracowanie".

It is slang and popełnić means do or buy

-Chłopaki zobaczcie co Piotrek popełnił.
-Wow, wypasionego nowego paska (vw passat)

Love / I love my Polish girl! Wanted to share my story. [55]

rtz

it's mine :)

I wouldn't like to count disadvantages of living there so let's look on bright side.

Norway - beautiful nature, crystal water, forest, rich country, small population.
Sweden - small population, it's only 200km from home ;)
Germany - ordnung, only 200km from home ;)
France - they know how to live, art, architecture
Spain - sun, sea, warm water

England - relatively easy language to learn, understanding of native speakers.

Love / I love my Polish girl! Wanted to share my story. [55]

My family are still a problem, they seem to have it in there head she is only coming for the money, does not love me, sees a chance for a good life in England.

You can assure your family that majority of Poles consider England as the worst place to live in Europe.

Life / How reliable are Internet connections/wifi in Gdansk? [4]

how easy is it to find a good wifi connection? Are there lots of cafes, etc. that offer it (even paid)?

There is a list of hotspots in Gdańsk.
tinyurl/ybtvhxy

dostęp płatny = paid
dostęp bezpłatny = for free
brak danych o odpłatności = unknown

Majority is paid. I think it will be hard to find reliable wifi for free.

You can buy Era gsm TAK TAK prepaid simcard and use your mobile phone as a modem.
price is 50zł pcm and 500 MB limit. Better than nothing :/

Genealogy / Translation of last name (Blachowski) [8]

He's always been curious if it is possible to translate it into English.

hmm

Blachowski - blacha means thin sheet of metal.
Błachowski - means Błachowski and there is nothing else to match ;)
