Possibly some people in Germany regard Russians as an "occupants" nowdays.
Not only nowadays, as they were....and some Berliner call it also the memorial of the rapist, because that was also true.
There is no such thing as lilywhiteness...but under that monument lay the bones of thousands of young men...russians, ukrainians and surely also belorussians far away from home buried in german soil....we can and have to respect that.
And yeah...that the soldiers and their families weren't exactly living in wealth and freedom either was surely a part of the understanding and acceptance. I remember people saying that the worst was over for Germans in 1945, for the Russians/Soviets it didn't stop...
