History / What do Poles owe to Hungarians? [231]

Pawian. Please settle a dispute I have with students. How old was Jadwiga when she was crowned?

Genealogy / Polish genome - are you familiar with it [58]

The fact that I am personally related to every member of PF fills me with a warm, fuzzy feeling of kinship. With exceptions.

but I didn't think you had fallen as low a scumbag as Delph who advocates murdering 160,000 Rydzyk supporters.

Bearing false witness. Number nine.
Posters should refrain from using abusive or derogatory language (unless it's necessary to explain the language's nuances). Posters who use abusive or derogatory language towards other users may be banned.

Number 2.

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1303]

I've just done 24 hours' teaching in the last three days ( and five hours' drinking in the last five hours) so forgive me if I've misunderstood. Pickled herrings with smalec? You must have the tastebuds of a bison.

I'm just jealous. I have the same problem as Falstaff ("A plague o' those pickled herring") I love pickles but they don't love me. But the makers of Rennie do.

jon. If you are the same jon that washes his hair in Ludwig, I am fully prepared to believe you eat herring with smalec.

News / demonstration; What is Nowa Prawica? [30]

Janusz Korwin-Mikke is not an idiot.

He is not an idiot but he recently said something extremely idiotic about disabled people. In fact he sounded like a Nazi.

Don't ignore him

Good advice. People who say things like that should never be ignored. Just watched. Carefully.
Has he retracted his comments?

And those born out of wedlock are illegitimate children aka bastards.

You are a bastard. A rotten, black enamel bastard.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

I think that's one thing that should remain.

I sincerely hope so. I already spend over 10% of my uni pay getting there by bus, and that's with a 47% discount.

The arrangement that doctors have with the police though ought to be changed and fast.

What's that, jon?

Off-Topic / Are you living in Poland? [77]

Yes. Although I'd use the present simple rather than the continuous.

Same here. Sorry, Delph, Yes.

Life / A rant about "patriotism" in today's Poland [60]

English is going the way of Latin and within just a few generations will be another dead European language.

That's the most absurd thing I've heard in a long time. All the evidence points in the other direction.

You may be right about life in a few generations' time

No, he's as wrong as it's possible to be. It's just wishful thinking.

UK, Ireland / Another load of Insults to the British [10]

Actually i spent all morning inventing a script that creates set of asp.net pages to access and modify Oracle, SQL Servers from all the workstations in the office zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

That explains a lot. You appear to be a nerd with a morbid anti-Poland fixation. Perhaps you should get out more.
This forum has its fair share of nuts, to be sure, and you are one of them. There are people from literally hundreds of countries in the UK. You either troll other sites, in which case you really should get out more, or you troll Polish sites in particular, in which case you are not contributing anything here except abuse.

Mods, has this guy ever said anything at all which could be considered a useful contribution to this forum?

hudson, the fact that Poles insult Brits elsewhere doesn't mean that you are justified in infesting this forum with your weirdly selective racism.

Life / Is the 1st of November a work-free holiday in Poland? [12]

1st is an official holiday, 2nd will be treated as an unofficial holiday.

Another lost day. Most people will make a long weekend of it, meaning I will lose lucrative work. Poland's public holidays cost me a bundle!

History / Welcome to Lemmingrad! [59]

a tiny fringe minority of people who live on the internet instead of actually going to work or living their lives

Including the massed ranks of Polams in Shelby Township, Michigan, pop. under 4000. A man with his finger on the pulse.

News / A new AWS (Poland Solidarity Movement)? [54]

"God sent me to Warsaw today".
People like these are capable of murdering a president or a premier.

I agree. Religious fanaticism mixed with politics can be incendiary. The mood of the march seemed to be "We are singing hymns and referring to God every five minutes; therefore God must be on our side, therefore we must be right. Those who are not with us are Godless." Illogical thinking, but hey, when did the fanatics ever worry about that?

Food / Jacket potatoes - do Polish people like them? [22]

boletus. My Polish father-in-law refers to the Colorado beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) as the American beetle, and holds to an old belief that the Americans dropped the damned pest on Poland. Personally, I don't hold with this view (why would the CIA do this in Poland?), but given that they dropped Napalm on civilians in SE Asia I don't feel able to contradict him.

Well, this thread made me raid a box I got for my birthday in August. I've had five today with no unwanted results (they come later when I get on the scales).

UK, Ireland / Unemployed Poles in Ireland : a crash course in milking the system [323]

I,m pretty certain that if a British Hitler ever came to power ,the Daily Mail would be his most loyal mouth piece.

The Mail was a great fan of fascism in the 1930s, and that vein of intolerance and bigotry is always at, or just under, the surface of that scurrilous rag.

Whenever I greet him he puts on this huge smile, looks me in the eyes and quickly looks downwards.

So he obviously likes you.

While working out he keeps on catching my eye, although I was trying real hard not to reveal my intrest.

Why not. Women!
He's shy, that's all. I thought you cloggies were a bit more forward. Ask him if he knows a good place to get a sandwich, something like that, then ask him to show you where it is. The cafe I mean.

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

I was actually explaining this to someone the other day, that "must" should only be used when it is absolutely required without dissent - for instance, you must not enter a military training ground.

There's also the use of must when recommending something, e.g. "You must see that film, you'd love it."

Foreign languages are necessary. You ........... learn at least one.

while the key suggests: :"should."

Because there is no absolute requirement or obligation to do so. It's just a good idea.

I've never tried them :(

Then you're in for a treat. But make sure you buy the Solidarność brand. There are other plums in chocolate which are cheaper and sugary. Solidarność make by far the best. Not cheap but excellent.
