Law / Polish Passport and Polish Citizenship (dual with American) [14]

Polish nationality law says that a child born to a Polish parent is a Polish citizen at birth. It doesn't matter where the child was born. Even If only one parent is Polish and the child was born outside Poland, the child is Polish citizen. If a parent doesn't want the child to be a Polish citizen, Polish citizenship for the child can be disclaimed within 3 months of the child's birth.

If you father didn't do it then you are Polish citizen already. You just need a Polish passport and most importantly PESEL (same as SIN in US)

soderkoping.org.ua/page12010.html

Your father didn't loose his Polish citizenship just because he became an US citizen.

Here is some info on how you can confirm your Polish citizenship: polishconsulateny.org
Confirmation of Polish citizenship
Citizens who do not have valid documents proving Polish citizenship (a Polish passport or ID) or whose personal data and citizenship cannot be ascertained, may apply for confirmation of Polish citizenship.

Citizens over 18 years old, who were born outside of Poland and/or have never possessed documents proving their Polish citizenship (a Polish passport or ID), prior to applying for the Polish passport at the Consulate must obtain a certificate confirming their Polish citizenship.

Certificate of confirmation of Polish citizenship or its loss, or refusal of its confirmation, is issued by a Provincial Governor (Wojewoda). Applicants residing abroad submit an application through the Consulate according to their place of residence. After verification, the application is transferred by the Consulate to the Provincial Governor Office, in accord with the applicant's last place of residence in Poland (in case of the applicants who have never resided in Poland - to the Provincial Governor Office in Warsaw). The decision of the Wojewoda is forwarded to the applicant through the the person residing in Poland authorized by an applicant for the service of correspondence.. from the Provincial Governor's Office.

USA, Canada / Is there anyone in the US who has a Maluch that is legal to be driven? [13]

There is one in Toronto (Mississauga). I saw it on a street last Monday. It has "POLMOZBIT" written accross. Polmozbit is a car garage in Mississauga. Perhaps they can help you with parts.

USA, Canada / I have a Canadian and Polish passport. Travel on Polish / Canadian passport in Europe? [10]

I always travel with both my passports: Canadian and Polish. Based on my experience it is much faster to got through customs and immigration at the airport in Rome on Polish (EU) passport than on a Canadian. 5 minutes for me on Polish passport and 1 hour and half for my travel companion on a Canadian passport. You enter EU once. There is no passport control as you travel from one EU country to another.

I leave North America (sometimes from Toronto, sometimes from Buffalo or New York) on my Canadian passport but always enter EU on my Polish passport. For ticket reservation purposes i always give my Canadian passport number.

I return to US or Canada on my Canadian passport.

Also don't forget, you will get many discounts as an EU citizen in Europe vs. non-EU citizen. For e.g.. discounts on entrance fees to all main tourist attraction in Rome, etc.I believe Coliseum was half price for EU citizens.

USA, Canada / Marriage certificate required for Polish passport (I'm a Polish-American) [9]

Why would I need to do this? If I were simply to go to the consulate and not mention that I am married, would this be a problem for me later or for my children?
Any advice here would be welcomed greatly! Thanks!

These are the legal basis: Ustawa z dnia 29 września 1986 r. o aktach stanu cywilnego

By law all Polish citizens must have their marriage registered in Poland. If a Polish citizen doesn't have a permanent address in Poland (never lived in Poland) she/he must register the marriage in Urząd Stanu Cywilnego Warszawa-Śródmiecie. You don't have to do it in person. Familly member or friend can do it for you.

And God forbid, if you ever divorce your wife, you will have to get divorced in Poland too or legally you will still be married in Poland Speaking from experience, I inherited some land in Poland. I had to find my ex, who I divorced in Canada 13 years earlier and beg him to sign some legal papers. He was surprisingly kind enough not to ask for a half of my inheritance but legally he could

To clarify, you don't need to get married in Poland, you need to register/report your marriage to obtain a marriage certificate, the same way you would register a birth of a child to get a birth certificate.

But because you don't have PESEL yet, I suggest you do it through the nearest Polish Consulate. It will take a bit longer and cost much more money.

Language / Mam silnego kaca! Why is this genitive/dopełniacz? [34]

I don't why buy most health related masculine nouns behave like virile masculine nouns. Mam raka (tfu, tfu), mam mięsaka, mam syfa, mam tluszczaka, mam guza, mam siniaka..... but mam odcisk, mam łupież, mam zarost. Perhaps somebody smart here can explain it.

But to confuse you even more: mam Mercedesa, mam Fiata, mam Volkswagena ( I guess some people think a car is a living thing..lol).
Also some mushrooms (why? , I have no clue) Znalazłam prawdziwka, znalazłam podgrzybka, maślaka.

Masz papierosa? Tak, mam papierosa.

Zatańczymy poloneza, a moze walca lub foxtrota?

I think I confused you enough. You are welcome :)

This is not your business. Why would you want to get involved?? This is up to your son to tell this girl how he feels about her. Apparently he is not clear with his message and gets her confused. Please speak to him, not to her. The messagge from him must be clear.

Po polsku / Chef - polskie tlumaczenie [6]

hehe :) wygląda na to, że Sushi Master, popatrz:

:) znalazlam tam rowniez pomoc mastera shushi

Dzieki Strzyga.

To jest samochód"
"Ten samochód jest biały".

So why not "Mężczyzna jest zimno" as he says?

Mężczyzna jest zimny - A man is cold (this means that when you touch him, his skin feels cold... not necessarily he feels cold himself. It could also mean that he is dead, this is why mężczyzna jest zimny. This sentence doesn't say anything about the temperature mężczyzna feels himself, only how he feels to others.

Zimny is an adjective in this sentence

Mężczyznie jest zimno - A man is cold. Thsi sentence says that mężczyzna feels a low temperature of his body. Zimno is an adverb in this sentence

Mężczyznie jest zimno, ale mężczyzna jest cieply. The man is cold but he feels warm (to the touch)

Language / "żółwik" - the same word?? [55]

a.k and gumishu. My reply was only to a question if a simple sentence Muzyka Mozarta podoba mi się is correct. I didn't want to go in details about any variations ,forms and exceptions because I didn't want to confuse anyone who is a beginner learning Polish.

And of course, I totally agree with both your posts.

Po polsku / Cinkciarz - nastolatek nie znal tego slowa [14]

Rozmawialam wczoraj z pewnym osiemnastolatkiem, urodzonym, wychowanym i zyjacym w Polsce i uzylam okreslenia cinkciarz opowiadajac o dawnym sasiedzie..

Language / "żółwik" - the same word?? [55]

How about "Muzyka Mozarta podoba mi się." Merely curious here as to whether the word order makes any differences whatsoever to a Polish native speaker. To me as a foreigner, both sound pretty much the same!

Muzyka Mozarta podoba mi się i Podoba mi się muzyka Mazarta have exactly the same meaning but Muzyka Mozarta podoba mi się is grammatically incorrect or at least weird sounding. Polish sentence is usually arranged this way: subject - verb -object.

So a native people would always say: Podoba mi się muzyka Mozarta, Lubię Mozarta, Kocham mamę and never Mozarta lubię. Mamę kocham

Language / "żółwik" - the same word?? [55]

gumishu, salad could be sałata or sałatka. I agree with you that most native speakers will call a salad sałatka, but not all, and not always.

From one of my favourite recipe sites here are some examples of lettuce-free sałata:

Sałata z selera z bakaliami i kurczakiem marynowanym w herbacie:
