Law / Registering Foreign Car In Poland [24]

Merged:

Registering A Bulgarian car in Poland.

The car is an old (approx 25yrs old) LHD Toyota Landcruiser and is currently in the UK. I have an option to buy this for next to nothing as it requires some work and i need a 4 wheel drive in Poland as will be living in a remote area.

Is it feasible to register this in Poland?
Would it be better to transport it to Poland as is, and get it fixed there?
Whats the import duty going to be like if any?

Or would it make more sense to just buy one in Poland?

UK, Ireland / Brits say being drunk senseless while visiting Poland is national trait [98]

They got their just desserts there. Good.

I flew into Szczecin a few weeks back and when the plane landed this Polish guy thought he was more important than anyone else and was pushing people out the way to get to the front. Probably wasn't 30 people on the plane so totally unnecessary. The Polish air hostess went for him verbally. She was scary. He then made the mistake of not sitting down when she told him too. Wow, if the first attack was scary this moved to a new level. I think everybody on the plane could feel the hairs standing up on the backs of their necks and the guy dutifully sat down and meekly obeyed.

Maybe they should have one like that on every plane. I guess she practices on her husband. Poor fella.

Real Estate / If you pay a property reservation fee in Poland, can they sell it from under you? [10]

@Cargo pants

I think its his fault.

Not really read the first post properly. TBH the only issues I've had in the past are with buyers trying to circumvent the agent hence some are now charging a fee both ways. I like the self defeating practise of showing the property location on a map, up to 30km from where it is really. Nuts.

Having a Polish wife and spent 12 years travelling back and forth between the UK and Poland, I think I have a fair measure of the place. Certainly not my first property in Poland either.

Real Estate / An equivalent of heating range / cooker in Poland? [4]

I thought maybe food for this, but it's a central heating question also. Love these beasts. Ran one in the UK for twenty years burning wood and coal.

Not this exact model but a long the same lines. Is there a Polish equivalent? If so can they run the heating? Is running the heating like this not a good idea in Poland? What are the options off-grid? I've tried searching but only come back with similar from Bulgaria. From some of the magnificent room heaters I've seen in Poland, I'm sure there must be something along these lines.

Law / Parental Child Abduction (Indian man married to Polish wife) [32]

Let's just say that you have an almost 0% chance of getting the child returned.

Delph thats a bit harsh and not true.

Are you saying that I have no chance to see my daughter?

Do it right and you have a moderate chance.

Once your Hague case is filed with the supreme court there is nothing she can do until its over. Which city does this involve? If Poznan I can put you in touch with a lawyer who will treat you with respect and not empty your pockets for personal gain. Plenty of those scammers about.

Polish courts simply do not respect judgements made under Hague when a Polish child is involved.

Not strictly true. The problem is that there is nothing in Polish Law to enforce a decision made by the court for return. You have the order and you could ....

Law / Parental Child Abduction (Indian man married to Polish wife) [32]

I'm guessing you are aware of Reunite in the UK. If not contact them immediately. Listen to there advice and start proceedings under the Hague Convention for Abducted and Illegally Retained Children immediately. Follow Reunite's instructions precisely and with luck you will be returned to the position you were in before the parental abduction. Then as you probably know, you will then have to do the right thing in the Irish Courts which will make the decision regarding the childs future.

Good luck. The Polish courts in which these cases are tried, do not have the competence to do so, and can make very odd decisions. My wife and I won through, but paid a very heavy price in the divorce proceedings which legally could not be started until the Hague stuff was completed and the child was returned. The courts overlooked the matter of legality and made it political. If you intend divorcing, get everything in place prior to the end of your case and have someone ready to put papers in court immediately the child is on Irish soil. That way you may be able to prevent the Polish courts taking control of the divorce which will be bad for you if you win the abduction case.

it is a rarity with Poles

I think you must be looking through rose tinted spectacles.

UK, Ireland / Prices of Clothes in Poland and England [35]

can recommend store called SportsDirect

Yes, it must be the second most frequented shop after Polski Sklep by the Polish community. In fact its possibly the Polish community that keep it in business.

I have seen the price of Lonsdale in Poland. Rip off.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

You obviously have a hearing problem or you belong to the group who use it every second word; so you don't recognise when you hear it.

I've yet to meet a Pole, other than solicitors, who doesn't use it as an adjective frequently. Furious Pete has got it about right.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

you are know around here to make things up as you go and spin things

In your opinion. I don't need to make it up. From the outside looking in; it's all very strange.

I don't find Polish people horrible

Hey I live with one so we agree. Some are truly horrible as are some English.

and walk around a city center wouldn't be a reason enough to come to such conclusion

But you could parody what you see with horse racing. Blinkers.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Ironside some people just do that anyway in Poland. Young kids are always a good gauge of reality and unafraid to speak their minds. On several occasions after a day out in Poznan, my partners Polish children have asked why Polish people are so horrible?

If that's your chat up line you are likely to hit the mark in the local psychiatric institution. Elsewhere I wouldn't bother.

Life / Bad Polish mothers [35]

This doesn't just happen in Poland.

You are kidding aren't you!!

It is not specifically mothers. Its parents and criminals.

Note the recorded figure for baby sales was 1772 for 2010 and that was only the recorded ones. The real figure may well have been at least double that.

All that is required is a change in the law but that may upset a certain institution that profits from this.

s there a link where I can read the research or view those stories...quite interesting !!!!

Google Poland people trafficking
Google Poland children for sale
Google Poland Domestic violence

Do remember most posters on here are never touched personally by the grim realities so refuse to accept facts.

Love / Are Polish mothers-in-law monsters? [91]

but has any non-Pole had any interesting contacts (or run-ins) with their Polish mothers-in-law, the chronic but of many Polish jokes.*

In my experience the English one was the quiet assassin. Devious to the core. The Polish one prefers the direct approach. Shouting and throwing things. Bloody scary. The father in law is a brave and tolerant man. Just hoping the other half got his genes.

Life / Bad Polish mothers [35]

The teacher who first raised the problem should have contacted her union as well

I suggest you read the detail. Social services were contacted and the parents did everything in their powers to avoid them.

My (Polish!) mother gave me up for adoption.

Try and look at it positively. Do what you need to do and live YOUR life.

Unfortunately mothers (and fathers) killing their kids are of all nationalities.

Its true but Poland has inherent problems with its laws that the government seem to be doing little or nothing about. For example you can sell children in Poland. Poland is considered a Tier 1 people trafficking country by the US. Sales of children are only partially documented. The figures are all out there for people to see.

Where the babes lost in the woods or were they sold??

News / Polish cleaner claims sexual assault is OK in rural Poland [31]

It appears sexual assault is one of Polands less palatable exports

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-23006696

Man molests girl.

Not only is this person a truly disgusting individual, but he obviously lacks intelligence for committing the offence within a small community, where he was easily identifiable.

Quote from judge "If it were up to me I would deport you."

Its time the EU made this viable and reciprocal, and made foreign courts uphold sentences given in other countries unlike the Tomek ???/Elderly woman rape case a couple of years ago.

Life / Taking my Right hand drive car to Poland - is it allowed by the Polish authorities? [17]

If you decide to anyway, then repeat after me: Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be.....etc., etc.

+1 for that.

Its not only the drivers that are dangerous, but extremely dangerous roadworks that are poorly marked. 4 abreast on a single carriageway leaves you no room for error. A metre to the left so you can see is likely to be terminal. Beware the drunken cyclist too, they are completely unpredictable although they can be spotted at a distance with their flamboyant style.

I hate driving my RHD car in Poland. LHD is much more comfortable.

Life / Bribery and corruption 'fact of life' in Poland? [152]

It doesn't help if the courts are corrupt too, which, from experience with the family courts, I know is true.

He told me that when a loan in agreed for his clients he gets a golden handshake that's can be between 5-10% of the total loan.

Yes , if you travel in the right circles there are willing providers for a fee. Seen this myself also. It also operates at a much lower level as well.

One thing I respect about the Poles is their ability not to miss a trick to make a few zlt out of somebody. Ruthless some of them.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Sorry but that sounds ridiculous.

Why? We have a different kind of Police over here. They don't carry guns (yes I know some do), they are approachable and don't have a problem arresting people. Explain why you think they need to carry them. I thought they were there to protect and serve not kill people.

By taking the guns away ? Where's the logic behind it ?

I grew up with guns. My friends had guns. Some of them shouldn't have been allowed near them. In fact one of them shot his girlfriend by accident. Lucky for her it wasn't to serious. With a gun in their hands they became 'powerful' Guns have that effect on people. They turn from loser to boss in an instant. Another point. The Police are not exactly well paid in Poland, so there not likely to attract the best of people either.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

modest pistol

I can understand guns for hunting but a pistol no.

They should be taking the guns off the Police in Poland and they might attract people with better personalities into the force. Full of idiots that were bullied at school taking revenge on the innocent. They might even speak to you in the street instead of expecting the crowd to part like the sea. Not nice people in my experience. Thats just mine though.

To go to court and once for a holiday. Turned out be an expensive holiday. Its difficult thinking of a good reason to go now.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

Polish women walks differently. T

I understand what WB is saying I think. It is selective vision though. He is choosing a particular variety of Polish women. Slender, reasonably attractive, high heels, stockings(fantasy) and impeccably smart. Not always a perfect specimen, but has the ability to make the most of her features by using her make up intelligently. She walks tall, but is not aloof. A real head turner, but approachable, unlike her English counterpart, who treats everyone around her with contempt. I have selective vision when I see one of these young ladies too. Summer Friday afternoons in the town centre are always a pleasure. Sundays bring out the Russian girls, dressed in black, micro short skirts, loud make up and ultra high heels. They could easily be confused with someone looking for work. The cheap look is interesting, but the novelty wears off. The sophisticated look, wins out.
