USA, Canada / Going back to the Old Country of Poland after more than 25 years! (from USA) [249]

I came to Poland for the first time when I was 21 in 1978. I left in 1985. I returning this September after all these years. Please help me imagine the changes I will experience upon my return.

Wow that's a long time! I can't help you with the differences though as i'm much younger than you. I hate to sound pessimistic, but unless you are incredibly patient and prepared to work extra hard, you WILL not stay in Poland for long. Not too long ago I relocated from Canada to Poland for work (i was born in poland, speak polish, have family there etc.) but only stayed a couple of years. There are too many things wrong in Poland and I just couldn't put up with it anymore.

Just curious, not intended negative, Why? Why would you not speak your native language at all?

I'm also interested...

it would be interesting to read your experiences once you arrive here.

Ditto.

Rybnik, I hope you make a daily blog about your experiences in Poland!

Work / Moving Back to Poland after living in Canada for 24 years. IT jobs market? [26]

Marcin,

I lived in Poland for a couple of years. I worked in engineering and made much, much less than in Canada but I only did it for the experience. It is possible, over time, to make decent money but you need nerves of steel to succeed in Poland - the work environment is tough in Poland.

IT people are in demand in Poland but wages can vary considerably. I have friends back in Poland who are making (entry level) anywhere from 3K PLN / month to 10K PLN - depends on a lot of factors.

The most important thing in Poland when someone is looking for an employee is the candidate's age. We don't need experienced workers who know how to fight for their rights. We consider people 45+ as a waste. We are looking for young and naive people with mortgages or/and kids to exploit them ;)

Sad but true. It's mind blowing how much discrimination exists in the Polish workplace (compared to Canada).

Life / Are Poles Dis-Loyal [58]

Poles who ran away to another country

You sound jealous, lonely limey.

Jealous of Poles who left Poland, made better lives for themselves than they could anywhere in Europe, and still had enough money to help their families back home survive through the ****** 80s/early 90s. Despite the thousands of kilometres that separate these families, these migrant Poles still visit their families back in Poland, even if just for 2 weeks at a time.

"konwersacje"

I pitty those who go to Poland (or anywhere really) to teach English. It makes me think that 99% of these "teachers" should have studied something more useful in university.

Bored, correct. Not much else to do when stuck at home with a throat infection, really.

Hahah excuses, excuses. Just a quick look at your post history reveals that you have no social life (cyberspace socialising does not count). On the upside, I bet you are a great esl instructor.

Study / Coming as a foreign Exchange Student - Information about school life in Poland [11]

how I will be accepted over there as an American.

They'll love you, especially the women;)

High school life in Poland is fairly similar to the US: parties, sports, homework etc. I think Polish students have more homework per night than their US counterparts though. Polish students seem to have less money as well.

News / Pubs in Poznan kick out Roma? [256]

(for what it's worth, in Wroclaw, there's far more problems with homeless Poles than any Gypsies)

That's because there are more Poles in Poland than gypsies in Poland! On a per capita basis, gypsies are far more troublesome than Poles.

UK, Ireland / Estimated number of Poles in Ireland thought to exceed 200,000 OR over 5% of population. [200]

Why do chinese flood western countries, refuse to assimilate, speak only their own language and live amongst other chinese immigrants? Why do they destory national unity in their adoptive countries and dilute western identity? Why don't they have more patriotism and help their own nation instead of destroying western nations?

Lols, says the man writing in Latin script.......in a language borrowed from dozens of other languages who speaks Polish,a sub language of Slavic, ultimatly leading back to Bulgaria...who genuinly do have a writen and spoken language of their own :)
They dont write stuff down in their own language, wow, maybe its the same reason they dont like teaching any outsiders their language....

They only have an oral language!

Yeah, sure you have :) Was that with a clip board in hand?

[/quote]

Yeah i have (minus the clipboard) because i've actually tried to understand these nierobole whereas duped brits like you just blindly throw money at them (which only rewards them for being lazy). You've probably never been to the rynek in Wroclaw because it is very common for these low lives to beg for money from people who are enjoying a pint outdoors. I never give them money, instead i try talking to them. In addition to that, i lived near a gypsy flat for a little while when i first came to wroclaw.

Great idea. People like SeanBM will talk all day about how to appease these lazy buggers and how to gather money for these cunts. Harry will help Sean by calling anyone who doesn't want to throw tax payer money at gypsies so they can sit around doing nothing all day racists!

Pubs in Poznan kick out Roma

h

Fantastic! When I lived in Wroclaw I was appalled by the way in which these gypsies lived:

- discouraged their children from attending school (elementary school education is believed to be enough for gypsies)
- few speak Polish well (even though they've lived in Poland all their lives) and don't even have a written language of their own!

- encourage kids to beg for money in the rynek (pretend to be sick) and pickpocket tourists
- not interested in working (some of the better gypsies sell rugs)
- when not begging, they just sit around in the klatki (when it's cold/raining) or roll out their rugs in the podwórko and munch on sunflower seeds (leave the shells on the sidewalks for groundskeepers to mop up)

- collect welfare, demand (and get) free housing on the basis that they're "minorities who need to be protected"
- gypsies in wroclaw (that i unfortunately lived near for a little while) told me that they collect welfare cheques in Poland and Britain!! This is why they are nomads.

- dirty, disorganised, lazy lifestyles

I've asked many gypsies in Poland why they don't want to work and/or go to school - not a single one of them wanted to answer my question! They are nierobole by nature.

Gypsies are leaches - they take but do not give back. Imagine if we all did that?

Here is how they live in the CZ Republic:

Love / Polish traditions and parents (I was dating this Polish guy..) [72]

I bet Mr Smith with a nice Merc would cause a bit o excitement in an avarage polish village family.

These days gone with the wind my friend. Now Mr Smith needs a Merc factory ;)

Nah, Polish girls only want a Mr Smith.

only dates seriously polish girls

Sounds like an idiot.

my question is polish parents really strict on who ther children marry does it have to be polish girls if everyone else in there family is polish?

Polish parents can be a bit conservative at times. Your "non-polishness" may not be the problem either, it could be that his parents just don't like you.

Love / How do Polish men feel about gender equality? [780]

In some lines of work it is difficult for some men to take female bosses seriously. I don't think this way personally (i have a female boss), but some men do.

What age are the workers? Sounds like they are older (45+). Try hiring younger guys, they are probably more accustomed to seeing women in managerial positions.

Funny website. I bet a lot of germans believe that stuff.

You mean your favourite quotes. You probably enjoy reading degrading stuff about Poland to make yourself feel superior to Poles.

Travel / Visiting Poland - A bit worried about social attitudes and racist inclinations.. [80]

I have had some ugly experiences where polish guys/and older polish folk have passed rude/racist comments to me and disrespectfully spoken to my girlfriend.

It's a little taboo or at least frowned upon for Poles to date non-white people. Many people in Poland are still a bit racist and third world immigrants are thought to be lesser people.

I was advised by many of my polish friends and girlfriend to be careful when visiting Poland and try and avoid it if possible.

Rubbish. You'll be fine in Poland, just expect people looking at you (especially if you are with a Polish girlfriend) and maybe, maybe some comments. Stay in public, well lit areas at night - you may be a target for drunk idiots/hooligans.

I am shocked that things like this are said about a supposedly European country.

Well Poles are fully aware of the effects of third world immigration.

That's just becaouse one is allowed to speak in Poland while in other European countries people are afraid to speak up becaouse they will be socially "un-accepted" as the official "policy" is not to be a rascist becaouse of what had happaned in ww2.

Many western countries are far too PC. Whites have to be careful what they say because they can easily be accused of racism - not the case for non-whites. "Sins of the father."

Love / Polish girlfriend may be pregnant - what girls from Poland think on having a child without marriage? [54]

Oh boy you sure dug yourself in a hole.

This is what you have to do:

1. Get a DNA test to make sure you're the father. If the test is +, proceed to the next point

2. Go to babynames.com

I feel sorry for you if you are the father!

If you had unprotected sex, then why worry? The kid is yours so be happy.

haha How old are you?? This polka could have been sleeping around with other guys, getting tested is wise, unless he doesn't mind paying child support for some other guys kid for the next 18 years.

Life / Are Poles bankrupt? [35]

Debt is quickly on the rise in Poland, but Poles always find a way to make money na czarno.

I've heard a couple of economists on TV (during the greek crisis) say that they think many non-EU countries (Poland was cited as one country) somehow hide/distort their debts. They also said that greece would not have encountered such problems if they didn't have the euro as their national currency. The euro put an end to cheating on debts. If this is true then Poland will sink faster than the titanic if it adopts the euro.

Life / Support wanted to stop the sale of live carp in Poland [74]

So you're saying that it's alright to sell live carp in Poland because some other countries do some worse things?

What i said was that is that it is ridiculous to protest the sale of live carp whilst ignoring acts of animal cruelty as portrayed in the above videos i posted. I've never even heard of the humane society declaring the sale of live fish as being an act of animal cruelty.

Life / Support wanted to stop the sale of live carp in Poland [74]

In many western countries lobsters and other fish are kept in small tanks in grocery stores (especially chinese neighbourhoods)!! It's not the ideal arrangement, i'll admit that, but it could be much worse.

Why don't you protest the way animals are slaughtered/tortured before they are turned into packaged meat?

Here's just one of the thousands of videos available online:

* graphic video * Do not watch if you are sensitive.

youtube.com/watch?v=zhlhSQ5z4V4

edit:

Ah what the heck, here is another one for you:

youtube.com/watch?v=RENAGD9PCl8

Livestock beat by farmers, bulls castrated alive, poked & stabbed for fun, electrocuted, etc... animals clearly in excruciating pain as they moan and groan... it's all there, start watching.

I'm all for ending animal cruelty (i like animals) but attacking the sale of life fish in Poland is ridiculous. The fish are not tortured to death like the animals in the above video.

UK, Ireland / ENGLISHMAN JAILED FOR MURDER OF POLISH GIRLFRIEND [47]

ere's no denial, in both Western and Eastern Europe i've seen with my own eyes that a significant amount of white women has no problem to reject decent looking white guys without mercy but when a butt ugly turk or negroe wants to dance or talk with her, she suddenly cares about their feelings by not rejecting them and agreeing to dance/talk so as not to feel racist. It's a disgusting phenomen, but it definitely exists.

White women reject white men and go for blacks, pakis etc. simply to rebel against their parents' expectations. Women can be like children at times.

Life / Some Poles have fine houses [68]

I agree with most of you, housing in Poland > UK. But housing in Canada/USA >>> the rest. Although I grew up in Canada, I've had the pleasure of living in both Poland and the UK (couple of other countries too) and I must say, when i moved back home to Canada my reaction was "WOW!".

Travel / PKP (Polish National Railway) is a turn off [47]

- expansive

What?? Trains in Poland are dirt cheap!!

- bad service

Most of the PKP staff are unhappy looking (this is quite normal for customer service jobs in Poland) but they do their jobs.

- dirty

I agree with you here, Polish trains are filthy, especially the bathrooms. Only intercity trains are clean, i think - the train from Wroclaw to Berlin for instance is very nice, but i believe it's German.

- uncomfortable

I'd argue that all trains (economy class) are uncomfortable.

News / 10 km of a road in Poland costed... 2,3 bilions of PLN! [13]

Happens often in Poland. Companies get contracts to build roadways in Poland but they buy/use less supplies and keep the excess money. Nothing knew here.

I remember driving on the highway between Warsawa and Bialystock (many years ago before i moved to Poland) only less than 1 year after it was constructed and it already had 2 groves for the tires running several kilometers. It was raining that day too, so you could imagine how dangerous that drive was.

Travel / American woman visiting Poland in March/April [15]

Sadow close to Lubliniec.

I also have been warned stay away from the small towns and rural areas.

Do you realise that Sadów is a village?

You must be visiting some friends because I couldn`t imagine why else a foreigner would come to Poland to visit Sadów and Katowice.

Just wanted to know what should I expect?

Expect stares and glares in rural areas, but probably not so much in the large cities. When talking to people, make sure you let them know you`re from the US not Africa - I think they`ll like you more that way.

Have fun!

News / Far-right party organizes 'pro-Polish' march in Silesia [20]

Yes, if I could be arsed to go all the way down to Katowice, I'd have to break out the face-black and the Prada outfit and the yarmulke and find my "Gay black Jews for Poland" sign.

If you could "arse" yourself to go, I would strongly consider paying all your expenses. I think it would be a great investment on my part.
