UK, Ireland / WRS (Workers Registration Scheme) - Do I need to get one? [6]

one's manager fear

You may be committing a criminal offence, and face a fine of up to £5000, if you continue to employ a worker if: the worker does not apply for a registration certificate within one month of starting work for you

As I remember after much disscusion about pay or not to pay I have decided to register. Reason was that they asked for registration certificate when you want to obtain NIN or something. So do a research ;)

Travel / Pot holes on Polish roads - to swerve or not to swerve [26]

Wouldn't re-laying larger sections be more effective?

Only if they reinforce asphalt with plastic mesh. Lot of the streets in Olsztyn are build of cobblestones and after WW2 were covered by asphalt only.

Last week, in Olsztyn, they repaired outer lane on Sikorskiego Avenue.
God bless them w dzieciach :)

Swerve and possibly cause an accident or just eat them up at 80 KMH

Don't swerve. Just slightly swing of the car body to relief attacking wheel. If there are two pot holes, one for left and one for right wheel a prayer is recommended ;)

Travel / American woman visiting Poland in March/April [15]

Any suggestions

Until people are confident of that you are not going stay here, find job etc and as long as you are perceived as a tourist you don't need to worry about.

Real Estate / Monthly Rental for a decent flat in Lodz - cost? [13]

is the entire house / flat heated

The best solution is when a flat have district heating running all year long. When independent meter and control panel is located in the flat.

Love / How do Polish men feel about gender equality? [780]

My problem is that I feel that the polish workers have problems with me being their boss, since I'm a woman.

I'm qualified Electrician and don't have any problem when my boss/employer is a woman.

Majority of my clients are women and they call me when the socket in the kitchen doesn't work but their husbands don't like to repair it. I'm doing my job quickly and in a professional manner ;)

Work / Moving Back to Poland after living in Canada for 24 years. IT jobs market? [26]

for past 24 years. I am a bit anxious about findind a job and would appreciate any advice.

The most important thing in Poland when someone is looking for an employee is the candidate's age. We don't need experienced workers who know how to fight for their rights. We consider people 45+ as a waste. We are looking for young and naive people with mortgages or/and kids to exploit them ;)

Language / Cheap way to learn polish [9]

Ok well my name is Brandon

The most important phrase is Czesc. Jestem Brandon ;)

Don't focus on grammar, focus on reading and writing fluency e.g. you can read some wikipedia article and switch over en and pl version.

Study / A female Asian student considers studying in Poland [21]

i realised that the locals can be very rude.

yup, they can be rude but I don't think they are capable to go too far. I mean after 20 years of "capitalism" we still don't carry guns, knives or screwdrivers in the pocket. Furthermore I think e.g. Olsztyn became safer because lot of scum went to the Western Europe after 2004.

Life / Winter in Poland? [161]

Gloves: I really have no clue, maybe leather with fur in them or something? Wool perhaps?

I don't think they are necessary unless you have to clean the windscreen each morning. Today (at 7oo in Olsztyn) was -14'C. At the moment is -6'C.

Pants: I have Levis jeans, thats it. Would that work for the snow? Maybe layer with some thermal underwear?

Some underwear is strongly recommended :)
