Polonia / What About The Poles In The Netherlands? [102]

I need urgent help regarding my friends.

They were made redundant from their jobs and kicked out of their accommodation and are sleeping rough in the forest. They cant find jobs without having a proper address, can anyone give some suggestion. Also if you know a cheap backpacker hostel somewhere near the big cities please let me know.

USA, Canada / EMPIRE STATE BUILDING IN NYC DISRESPECTS POLISH AMERICANS! [88]

Considering the hatred of jewish people by some Polish people (as clearly eveidenced by many members of this forum), I do not blame the owner of Empire State Building for refusing to honour him.

Study / Admitted To Warsaw University Of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska) [69]

There's nothing in the Czech Republic that isn't here - in fact, given how Catholic Poland is, you'd think it would be an easier life there.

They chose Poland over Czech Republic because they can, just like polish migrants chose UK over Germany or Italy. You should be grateful that someone from the arsehole of the world choose to study in your country, regardless of their ulterior motive. Millions of Polish people study, live and work elsewhere in the west, in a place better than Poland. Poland is surely better than Pakistan, Bangladesh or Nigeria, hence they use it as stepping stone for their career and a better future.

It is hypocritical of you people to disparage these people when you are doing EXACTLY the same in Western Europe, Americas, Australia and NZ.

Because there are no restrictions..Shows what you know.

There is no restrictions on Bangladeshi on whether they should study in Poland or Czech Republic, as long as they folow the Law of the land. They have a freedom of choice and they chose Poland.

Millions of Polish people moved to the west, and many of them settled in America, UK, Canada and Australia. Bangladeshis or Pakistanis have the right to study and settle in Poland, as long as they follow the immigration rules, whether you like it or not.

History / Christopher Colombowicz: America's discoverer Polish not Portuguese, claim historians [60]

dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1334274/WikiLeaks-latest--Pope-Catholic.html

It turns out that Christopher Columbus was Polish, not Italian. Just as well he wasn't thinking of setting out for the New World today.

Otherwise he would have stopped off in Southampton, immediately found work as a plumber and someone else would have had to discover America.

USA, Canada / Which countries are Americans usually traveling to? [114]

Latin americas are less likely to have positive view of America for the obvious reasons, they are like Germans and Poles. They have historical, cultural and inherent distrust of the US as a result of US foreign policy, corporate abuses, and US immigration Policy (99.99% of Latin Americans have no chance of travelling to the US except illegally via Mexico), and lately populist politicians and economic hardships.

Much like Polish, Russians, Arabs etc blame Germans and Jews for all the problems in their life, latinos always blame Americans for the economic collapse in Argentina, Mexico and Brazil despite the fact that it was their bad economic policy which caused the bankruptcy of many latin american countries. Their politicians are corrupt to the core but most of the population are stupid hence they are easily misled and blame US for everything, including their poverty, ugliness.

Everyday they see on TV soaps about life in America, they wish to go there but they cant get visa, which made them angry. They tried to go through Mexico which forced them to risk their life, which in turn made them angrier. After a long and difficult journey, they arrived there and life ain't all that rosy and they have to work menial jobs making less than $ 5 per hr doing unwanted jobs by Americans, which made them mad. Criticising and bashing America is the national sport for most of these countries' politicians.

Amazing fact is countries that have negative views of Americans or America are more likely to have high illegal migration to the US LOL! Oh the irony!

News / US Military: The Army of Poland is crap. [124]

The criticism is probably correct. Poland has no long term commitment to Afghanistan, they are only there in name only, for the sake of being mentioned as coalition partner.

From the Afghan side, they are probably looking for freebies, sweets, chocolate and footballs for kids etc. I saw US soldiers distributing those and the afghans probably got nothing from Polish troops, so they are not happy.

News / Roma flee home after threats in Silesia [28]

Ever since they intoduced electronic visa program for Romania and Bulgaria, a local tabloid tv reports there is a huge spike in ATM skimming, pick pocketing and shop lifting etc. The gov't refuse to admit the problem for fear of being accused discriminatory and racist.

History / Tuchola in Poland - roots of Katyn? [220]

Just saw WW 2 documentary on SBS channel, it made me so angry to see German planes bombing the **** outta Warsaw with no one to fight them back while Hitler and his Generals watched from a safe distance. If I were Polish I'd kill every German I've met.

Travel / Which cities in Poland are nice to visit [80]

I visited Krakow, Chorzow, Katowice, Warsaw, Danzig and Zakopane. Only Zakopane is worth visiting. The rest are pretentious european city with below average in everything. The country is FLAT and no natural beauty or historically significant attractions except the concentration camps and the carpathian mountains in the south. The only consolation prize you'll get is pretty girls and boys as long as you are willing to pay the tab.

Life / I got beaten and kicks in my face just cuz i dont look polish [205]

Unfortunate incident but I can understand the frustration of many desperate polish men and boys.

My friend, whom I mentioned a while ago, worked for about 6 months in Holland. He returned to Poland, dejected and frustrated, not just by the exploitation of Polish labours (they were paid a meagre 4 or 5 Euros per hr for back breaking work); but also by the behaviour of Polish girls in Holland in general. He said all negroes, turks, immigrants and dutch people only speak one sentence in Polish that is "suck my dick". Polish girls, after meeting with negroes and turks for 5 mintues in a club, will go to the toilet to have sex. He was bewildered and disgusted by what he had seen. I think that radicalised him a bit in his view of women and non poles. No one's fault though. And there's nothing he can do about it.

Welcome to EU. One big Family.

ha ha!

Law / America takes leading investor spot in Poland [51]

America, despite all soothsayers and naysayers prophecy of doom and gloom , is still the no 1 investor here in Australia as well.

My friend gave up hope in Holland and returned to Poland last month. He got a job at McDonalds last week, he was forced to buy a handbook for 137 Zloty (his weekly wage). He's very happy even though the pay isnt that good cause Mc Donalds is considered a luxury restaurant there.

News / US air base to be in Poland [193]

For 3rd world country like Poland, US military base in Poland is a blessing, a free manna from heaven. You should be eternally grateful and regularly pay tithe to the church from all the economic benefits you will receive, which will amounts to billion of dollars a year.

Benefits:

1. US Military base means your country is secure from invasion and preservation of territorial integrity, forever. No more Prussian/Russian/German/Austrian/Mongol/Turkish invasion.

2. US Military base means thousands of jobs for poor unemployed Polish people who would otherwise be forced to emigrate to UK, Italy, Germany and other EU countries where you will be scrubbing toilet and pick tomatoes for less than $5/hr, live with 10 other immigrants in a tiny 50 Sqm apartments.

3. Knock on effects of superior American standards in planning, design, construction of Military bases will set the bar high for Polish Military.

4. Easier co-ordination and co-operation between Polish Miltary and US Military, transfer of technology, military hardware and training.

5. Job security for tens of thousands of people, as long as US military base exist.

6. Many Polish kids will be able to get superior American Education, operated by department of defense.

7. Better roads and infrastructure for access to US military bases and the surrounding areas. Polish gov't will be shamed into providing better roads to save face, which will benefit locals.

Possible drawbacks:

1. It will anger Russia who still believe Poland is her backyard and her play ground, and will try to make problems for Poland particularly in trade.

2. Russian missiles will be pointed to Poland (even though it is doubtful that those rusty soviet missiles will reach their target)

3. Antagonism from locals, particularly racist Poles who will oppose to the presence of a large numbers of Black American soldiers, and will be angered by the fact that Black American GI will be dating Polish girls and boys, who undoubtedly will prefer well paid $ rich American GI's over poor polish blokes.

4. A flash point for protesters, especially those people who refuse to accept their country is just a dot on the face of the earth.

5. US Military base =magnet for prostitutes, drug dealers and potential increase in crime, especially rape, drugs and alcohol related crimes, which will ocasionally cause diplomatic incidents and nationalistic fervour and protest ( US criminals will be trialled under US Military law and not by Polish Law, so many Poles will consider this as an insult).

A single visit of US Aircraft Carrier to Sydney normally contributed $ 5-10 million to local economy, so Americans are very welcome here :D

Study / AFRICAN STUDENTS INVASION in Krakow [197]

Some Polish blokes seems to be very protective of their women. On our trip to Hel from Danzig, we were on board a ferry and we sat next to a polish girl. Her boyfriend or hubby looked at us all the time, particularly my male friend, gazing at us menacingly and ready to strike if we dare to talk to his girl. On a lighter note, there was a young guy who sat opposite to us, wearing really short shorts without undies; with his uncircumcised (ugh) dick and balls hanging out from the side.

News / "Shale Gas Revolution" will make Poland a Leading Country in Europe! [202]

Physical fracturing is not the problem, its the chemicals used in the fluid that is the problem because they pollute ground water and contaminate the soil and water supplies in many places. Even if Poland poses all of the world's oil, it will never be a superpower. It will only be a gas rich country just like many arab countries with little or no influence over the world except on gas price.

News / Lithuanian ambassador 'Poles not loyal citizens' [63]

That is extremely heavy handed approach by Lithuanian authorities. I think the Polish shopkeeper should take her case to European court of human rights, isnt that what all minorities in the UK did when they didnt get their way? Then again they were Nazi colloborators weren't they? So I am not surprised they are picking on minorities to make them feel unwelcome.

Travel / Avoid being ripped off by some exchange outlets in Krakow and elsewhere [44]

As someone mentioned before, use your ATM/Debit card. My Bank charge $5 per withdrawal in Foreign countries and the exchange rates are far better than forex dealers. Since I use credit card for most major purchases I probably used ATM 4 or 5 times throughout my luxurious 9 day holiday in Poland last year.

Life / Are Polish roads really this bad? [237]

I drove from Warsaw-Bialystok-Lublin-Rezszow-Krakow back to Warsaw via Czechostowa. Overall the roads are pretty good, for Poland. Warsaw-Bialystok is very good (two way lanes for both sides with median strips, no risk of head on collision) for about 2/3. Lots of constructions of highways along that section too. Bialystok to Lublin is OK but very dangerous because it is single lane bothways and there is extreme high risk of head on collision while overtaking as it is impossible to overtake without driving on the opposite lane. The road is simply too small for that section.

Lublin to Rezszow is very bad for about 10-20 km, there is a danger of your vehicle floor touching the hump of the road because the tyre tracks have sunk so much in the road. But 70% of it is OK and some sections very good(highways quality)

Rezszow to Krakow is a nightmare because of too many constructions or roads damaged for repairs. But thats a good sign as constructions will be completed in a year or so. Krakow to Wroclow all the way to Germany is a breeze thanks to the expressway with toll and freeway.

I saw lots of crosses erected along the roads and my friend told me thats where people had accident and died. I'm not particularly suprised as all Polish drivers insist on overtaking me even though I was driving 10-20 km above speed limit most of the time.

Apart from the need for speed driving (99.99% of them exceed speed limits at all times), I found Polish drivers to be polite and considerate to other drivers and are quite happy to give way (particularly lorry and bus drivers). I drove about 1500 kms and I saw a cop once riding a motorcycle outside the cities doing patrol.
