Where Else Do They Like Americans?

" In Poland, 70% give a thumbs-up to Americans. Americans also are well-regarded in Australia, where 66% voice positive views of them. The same is true in India, where 63% do. Majorities in three African nations also look with favor upon the American people. They include Tanzania, where 69% like Americans; South Africa, where 64% do; and Nigeria, where 62% do.

The pro-Americans vote is smaller, but still in the majority, in Russia (57%) and in Brazil (51%)".

When I compare those numbers with what I hear and see on PF I come to the conclusion that something ain't adding up here. Either the site is lying or some of you on PF are not representing the general opinion of the population of your country.

NO! Impossible!

A motley collection of bad tempered nationalists, racists and conspiracy theorists (among others) feverishly clattering, wild eyed on their keyboards simply have to be an accurate sample poll...

Look at the bright side of this. Who's least likely to immigrate? Great news!

I accidentally came across this link and I find it amazing as it shows totally different situation than what we see here. Jeez, even the Brits like us and the majority of Poles too. Would you expect it knowing what's going on on PF? I'm shocked, lol

I've always considered PF to be a refuge of scum and villainy. Why else would I be here? :)

For the record, I am completely non-surprised by this.

Most liked by Poles are Italians, English, Spanish, Czech, and Americans. Most dislikes Arabs, Gypsies, Romanians. So i guess the darker people LOL

Which is why we cannot afford to be xenophobic or people will think we are fascist jerks across the board. Do not give into your dark side. Wonder what opinion Mexico has of us?

You said that.

Why not, because the situation in Poland and UK can only be better than on PF? (lol)

Wonder what opinion Mexico has of us?

not that bad really.

You forgot the Scottish, but every country loves us ;)

I wonder if you like your people (countrymen)?

Wonder what opinion Mexico has of us?

44% of Mexicans like Americans (better than expected)

Many more people have positive opinion of U.S.A, but not maybe that much about their military forces ;)

Actually it's a wrong approach as military itself doesn't make any decisions. They go wherever they're ordered to go.

There's probably some error in that poll unless they managed to ask every single Mexicans and is it all Mexicans or just Mexicans over the age of 18?

To be perfectly honest, I think many British and Irish people have a slightly comical view of Amercians. They tend not to actively dislike them but do tend to think that they are 'amusingly different' sometimes - based on the typical retired, badly dressed, overwieght kind of "innocents abroad" tourist but also in general, on the "m'am" and "sir" thing (which is often seen as quaintly old fashioned) and just that Americans and can often seem much louder, overly confident, unselfconscious etc

It's not a criticism, it's just in my experience, this is how I think Americans are often viewed over here.

Of course I totally accept that the 'amusingly different' aspect works both ways also : )

Oh boy, another one... It was already stated on this site many times that it has actually not much to do with Poland ;-) Creator of this site made lucky choice with choosing name. Now out of the sudden people from around the world are asking questions here about Poland. The thing is that Poles living in Poland are a small minority here. From what I've noticed most of active users here are either foreigners living in Poland or Polish Americans...

Some foreigners with a couple of years here seems to be well informed, but many of so called Polish Americans usually have no clue about present Poland..

As for an opening post, you seem to confuse attitute toward USA tourists with attitude toward USA politics (ie. war in Iraq or Afghanistan)...

Ohhhh it does : )

I like people from the UK very much. Always interesting to meet someone from across the pond (Mainly because I can talk soccer... err uh I mean football : ) )

But just like you said, people from Britian (especially England) are to me, amusingly different.

It was a shock to me when I asked some friends from europe (non uk) which accent on English they though sounded better "British or American" and they all said "British"

I was like what????? Can't be! The British accent it too comical!

British accent

This is another thing of course : )

"British accent" ?? That would be all varieties of Scottish,Welsh, English etc

No such thing as a "British" accent!

people mostly see as the English as British! While Welsh are Welsh, Scotts are Scotts.

It's hard to say since we can't poll everyone there. Polls are manipulative, deceptively leading people to believe they represent an entire population when all they represent is maybe a tiny fraction.

Well then a skeptic could say the same for every poll ever conducted and yet they world runs on polls. Polling/ sampling is an accepted science with controls built in.

well, not really, they should like Americans despite the anti Mexican sentiment. We have over 30 millions of Mexicans here and they keep sending money that they earn here to their relatives back in Mexico all the time. I see it as a good reason to like us.

To be perfectly honest, I think many British and Irish people have a slightly comical view of Amercians.

this is what I was always saying on PF, we are very different. The language (almost the same, lol) is just about the only thing that makes us look like we belong to the same "family".

As for an opening post, you seem to confuse attitute toward USA tourists with attitude toward USA politics (ie. war in Iraq or Afghanistan)...

no, believe me, I am not. Then again, you guys are a part of it in Afghanistan :-)

It was a shock to me when I asked some friends from europe (non uk) which accent on English they though sounded better "British or American" and they all said "British"

funny, I had a totally different impression and most of people I asked about it while in Poland, told me that they prefer our pronunciation. I guess, it depends who you meet.

I am just saying what the facts are! I am not saying I see it that way or that it's correct....

no big deal, Merry Christmas :-)

people mostly see as the English as British! While Welsh are Welsh, Scotts are Scotts.

unless they specify it right away where they're from, I see everyone who comes from the UK as a Brit (not meant as an insult). I know the deal about GB (England, Wales and Scotland but not N.Ireland) and the UK (all of them + N.Ireland)

That is true haha.. but in America "British" accent refers to England

hm, not to me though. British means anything from Great Britain to me.

Not American Jews though, i had a Jewish American friend back in Penn State she went to Novgorod i don't remember if it was a synagogue or cemetery she went to see but the people knew they were Jewish and constantly gave them dirty looks and yelled something in Russian. But what's the deal with the French hating Americans? Is it because they don't try and speak French?

But what's the deal with the French hating Americans?

It's a bit of a myth really IMO - I've met a lot of French people and spent some time in France. Most don't hate the US at all.

Although it may be grounded in a grain of truth, i.e. the supposed French appreciation of high culture: philosophy; haute cuisine; arty movies etc vs what the French see as low culture from the US: action movies; McDonalds; guns etc

There may be an element that at one stage saw Americans as "philistines", and perhaps the view has lingered to an extent. I really don't think it's widespread though.

Plus, the French can be pretty snobbish to be honest : )

Is it because they don't try and speak French?

Well, never a good idea when in France. Ever.

Imagine it the other way around? : )

I tell you something, despite the often very unfair way of running business by the Jews, I personally believe (I know my opinion won't be very popular on PF), that after what happened to them in the past (Holocaust), they deserve at least some respect if not sympathy from us all. I know, they're not very good "neighbors" in the Near East but they went through Hell like no one else ever did and I guess, their aggressive behavior has something to do with their past.

Maybe they're just scared that it might happen again. I wish we had a Jew here on PF to explain it to us how they really feel about all this.

But what's the deal with the French hating Americans?

I have some friends in France but in general they do have a problem with us and I believe with everyone else too. They hate to speak foreign languages (especially in France).

I don't think the Mexies particularly like us. They like our dollar and come here for it while disrespecting our nation, laws and culture.

The French look down their snobby noses at everyone.

Well to be fair, there aren't too many nations in this world that can match France's history and culture. Even Poland has a rich history and culture.

this is exactly what I meant by saying it. They like the fact of making money here and they like our tourists leaving money in Mexico and this is most likely why the 44% of Mexicans "like" us.

Regardless of what happens on here generally speaking Americans and Brits get on very well. Theres always the usual digs thrown around over a beer or two but thats about it. Its the big (British) brother mentality:) - obviously....
