Study / I'm thinking to study in the Wrocław University of Science and Technology [55]

Your degree will not be fully transferable in the US (but not because you'd get a diploma from a Polish university - that's how the system works there). I'd expect you may be able to get up to 50-60% of 'courses' (the better the university, the less percentage - they want you to pay them as much as possible, that's why they are not willing to transfer many courses). Still, having 50% will save you about 1.5-2 years so it's not that you'd have to start from scratch.

Travel / Travel Route - Mumbai to Wroclaw. India-Poland flights. [2]

Probably the best option would be to take one 23kg bag and mail the rest via a postal mail or other commercial carrier. On the other hand, I believe you can take two 23kg suitcases to the airport and they will charge you on the spot for the extra one.

News / Austria's swing to the far right on Poland? [214]

Austria has been historically close to both Hungary and Germany (two opposing forcing right now), so who knows which force will prevail. For Poland and the current government it's good news.

Life / Motorcycle mechanic rates in Poland [2]

The rates will likely be similar to repairing a car. Best to find a motorcycle enthusiasts and work with them. Here is an example Polish website that works with motorcycles and they have rates for all services (use a translator if needed): ismserwis.pl/cennik-uslug-serwisowych/

UK, Ireland / Polish Beer In The UK [98]

Is there a good British (maybe except for the Irish Guinness) beer that Poles actually like? : )

Dużo Kaczyńskiego i Trumpa = źle. Dużo Obamy i Tuska = źle. Nigdy dobrze.

Travel / Poland - never again [593]

It looks you went to some public hospitals? You'd have much better luck if you went to a private clinic; there are many of them in Warsaw and I'm sure they are open 7 days a week. Whoever advised you (a taxi driver?) to choose a public hospital during the weekend was not too friendly to you; public hospitals in Poland or on a stand-by mode on Saturdays and Sundays and have a limited number of doctors working then.

Law / Marriage celebrant question - considering trying to get married in Poland using a paid celebrant if possible [2]

The best bet would be Las Vegas ;) But Poland is (rightfully) conservative and it's not easy, if possible, to find a 'marriage celebrant.' Actually, USC Civil office person is such a celebrant. In the US it's possible for any married man to work as such. I doubt you'd find a legitimate priest to do the job, unless you pay enough money - then it may be possible.

History / Where to buy old militaria in Poland? [4]

You may try to check with Czech collectors; the gun laws in Czechia have been historically more liberal than in Poland and they may have more choices available down there.

Genealogy / Need help with last name Hurkato [4]

Pelagia is definitely a Polish (a little old-fashioned) first female name. But Hurkato.. it could be Polish but it would be very rare if it was.

USA, Canada / Has anyone received US visa on temporary Polish passport? [3]

It'd be interesting to know if you were successful (it seems that a temporary passport should be considered as a valid / legal document); if you have no criminal records I'd assume you should be able to get the visa.

News / WOSP in Poland [161]

What most Poles fail to notice is the epic failure of the healthcare system in Poland. It's not the first time that someone (even famous) dies in a Polish hospital due to lack of modern technology and, unfortunately, low quality of Polish doctors. In the US, this person would most likely survive even if admitted to the worst 'public' hospital in a black neighborhood. In Poland, it's always 50-50 because there's little responsibility (you cannot sue the government) if someone dies due to malpractice and it still works like in the mediocre socialism era. The Polish government steals a lot of money from workers to support this failing healthcare system and many hospitals still have to count on street organizations like WOSP to buy the necessities.. Where's the outrage on that?

Classifieds / Startup people (Ontario, Canada)? [7]

For Europe, I'd consider Cyprus (there are many successful startup businesses by people from Poland and Eastern Europe there).

News / Years of Poland in the EU - assessment of pros and cons [1146]

Poland was the biggest monetary benefactor from the EU, coming out with 8.2 billion euros earned, far ahead of Greece and Romania.
