Life / Will Poland ever be multicultural like Sweden, Germany or France? [201]

It is very unlikely (the likelihood being 5%) that Poland will ever be multicultural like Sweden, Germany or France. In 20 years the likelihood will go up to 7%, in another 20 years to 10%.....

There is no one living (or dead) on this world that can disprove these figures.

Real Estate / Can foreigners buy land, house, or apartment in Poland? [60]

@worldly world
Do you know the English expression...suck it and see.
Try it and then you'll know.
Also remember that students only want a place during term time and no one will rent during the oyther months. If it was so easy plenty f people would do that. You have not discovered America, you know.

Real Estate / Can foreigners buy land, house, or apartment in Poland? [60]

1. You can buy a house, multiple apartments - in fact any property - as long as you pay by CASH.
1. There are too many Indian restaurants already - you will not make a fortune. You have to speak Polish to deal with bureaucracy in Poland before they let you open anything.

2. Unless you are in Poland and can make sure that any rented property is being looked after - they o.k. However, make sure that your contracts are water-tight written by a lawyer, as once anyone is in, it is extremely difficult to get them out of your property.

Law / Poland's Inheritance Law Without Will [21]

Go to a solicitor. It is very likely that all your father's children are entitled to inherit from the value of the property. They will have to be found, sometimes notices are placed in the paper. You must ask about that as I am not sure whether the case has to go through the Courts.

Life / Ekogroszek/wood pellets or gas for heating in Poland? [9]

In Krakow centre there is a concentrated effort to get rid of all coal burning fireplaces (piece kaflowe) and money is paid to the owners for transferring to alternative means of heating. It is very likely that this legislation will be extended to surrounding districts in the future.

I would exclude coal from your plans for the future, as when the legislation kicks in for the whole country you will be stuck. Coal is becoming more expensive, there are problems within the whole coal industry, so what may appear cheaper now could prove to be more expensive in the long run.

If you use wood pellets (which are easy to store and are clean) for heating and hot water during winter you will have to have alternative means for heating hot water in the summer.

Consider gas central heating. You will have to obtain permission from the owner of the property and your gas supplier before you do anything.
In your place I would ask your neighbours what they have and calculate the costs based on that.

Genealogy / Poland Genealogy Resources [130]

@Stevedardz
Your best bet would be to try and obtain their birth records. Chances (if slim) are that you may find these at or near your family's place of birth.

Genealogy / Records from pre-1914 Będzin and Sosnowiec [10]

This will be very difficult, almost impossible to find. There were two World Wars in between, records would probably be destroyed. You could try the School of Fine Arts and work backwards.

UK, Ireland / English/British rudeness - what do Polish people think about it? [161]

I find that there are RUDE people everywhere. Nationality/location has absolutely nothing to do with it. People are either rude or polite. To me, it all depends on how they were brought up by their parents/street/experiences.

Life / Consumer Rights & Returns in Poland [22]

Recently, I bought a light fitting from Leroy Merlin (Krakow, Nowa Huta) and realized it was not suitable when I got it home. Went back to them after a few days. Without a quibble, without asking any questions they returned my money in full there and then (so I could go somewhere else). I ended up purchasing something else from them. The customer service was excellent. I was absolutely amazed.

Law / Work permit + national visa in Poland for India citizen [91]

@Varun
You get the same consideration as other non-EU applicants. Either they do not have any positions vacant, or your expertise does not match anything they want. In Krakow I have seen Asians who obviously have obtained jobs.

Work / Poland Work Permit / Study Visa Processing Times [191]

You forget that we had Easter, that people might be off sick, that there may be other important things for them to do.
If you are not happy with the delay - then please write and raise your complaint with the appropriate department - who will no doubt, answer you immediately.

Real Estate / Can foreigners buy land, house, or apartment in Poland? [60]

The Law permitting the purchase of land is changing on 30th April 2016. This may only apply to farmland, but if your land does not have WZ (requirements for building) and all the media connected, then it will be counted as farmland.

Please make sure everything is legal before you purchase anything.

I heard that now all Uber drivers have to have a registered business and in those cases everything will be o.k.

Law / Uber in Poland - illegal [28]

Using Uber is ok as long as you do not have an accident. If you as a passenger get injured (or die), then you or your family will have to sue the driver who, most probably is not insured for transporting passengers for money. I can in fact guarantee you, that a normal driver is not insured for transporting fare passengers. As long as everyone is aware of that - then everything is fine.

News / Throwing away the constitution in Poland? [626]

Election pledges are ONLY to win elections. You should know that. In fact, one very well-known, very tired politician when asked said 'well, unless we promised the people that, we would not have won the election'.. says it all.

Once you're in - there are NO rules. This is called 'democracy'.....

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

All those MPs who raise their hands voting against the party line will be thrown out of the party. There will not be a 'free secret vote'.

The only conscience the PiS MPs have is the one directed by their Prezes (their Chief).That is all. No other option is permissible.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

Whether abortion will be allowed (under any circumstances) is up to the Prezes, Jaroslaw Kaczynski - no one else. So there is no point in discussing it any further. If he says NO - then it will be NO - that's it.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

People may not know 'much about sex' but they know how to make babies.
There is a Catholic based assumption in Poland that if you don't talk about it (sex) then no one EVER does it. Sex is such a TABOO subject that if you mention it to anyone (e.g. we're now having more sex in order to get pregnant), you are the DEVIL.

Classifieds / Teaching Job [online] for an English Native Speaker - Poland based online school [19]

They forget to state how much or how little they will pay the teacher, what materials (if any) they will provide, who ensures that the student has paid for his lessons and other very important points.

It strikes me that this school wants to earn a fast buck at the cost of minimally trained/educated teachers who will earn 10-15 pln per hour.
