"He loves his wife"

Let`s not be so intolerant and discriminatory. He loves his husband is also possible.

Life / A Polish comedy programme (swiat wedlug kiepskich?) [16]

It's a series that combines some very primitive humour with some very refined one.

Wow, really, I would never thought that. .But I don`t like such combinations - primitive humour spoils the fun I can have from refined one.

Research has found out that its viewers are either people with higher education or those with the most basic one

So I have only met those basic ones who were excited about the series.

kind of a "Poles Own True Portrait". I am very much surprised that you didn't like it, Pawian

I can see Poles` true portrait in everyday life, I don`t need to watch it on TV. Thank you very much, I am not a masochist. hahahahaha

Language / How should "Polish" be written? Maybe Polski? [27]

and Polskie Passages is actually very good even better than Polski Passages

Nope. Either all Polish or all English - no in-betweens. Similarly, it is either Polish Sausage or Polska Kiełbasa. I haven`t seen Polska Sausage.

Language / Use of swoj [23]

When a man loves his wife, you should say On kocha swoją żonę. If you say On kocha jego żonę,

Wow, those differences between swój/swojego/jego/jej/mojego are crazy. If Rich Mazur saw it, he would say that English is much easier - his is always his and nothing else.

Life / A Polish comedy programme (swiat wedlug kiepskich?) [16]

do you like it or have i got a strange sense of humour?

I never liked its imbecile characters and their pathological problems. I watched half of the first episode in 1990s and then never returned to it again. It`s a series about idiots for idiots.

Food / Black pudding & kaszanka [36]

Polish black pudding tends to fall apart in the frying pan;

Yes, exactly, when I fry it on both sides coz I like crispy foods, I have to flip it carefully so that it doesn`t fall apart.

English, Irish, Scottish and French pud has a firmer texture and stays together.

Interesting. Why is it so?

Love / Making My Polish Girlfriend Feel Like She Is At Home At Christmas [83]

(realised how much traditions Ireland actually does not have).

What? Do you mean the secularization of Ireland was so quick? I still remember reading articles in communist press in 1980s about Irish strict abortion laws.

she may have been lying but they open their presents on christmas eve

Yes, it is true. Waiting till next day`s morning is silly.

we got hammered on whiskey and vodka- truly mixing the traditions there lol

Getting hammered on Christmas Eve is practiced in pathological families where alcohol is a big problem.

eat seafood for a christmas meal, I objected to this one, hate seafood haha

Yes. Fish is also seafood. Look below:

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

But how much of the violence was begun by protesters?

What is the importance of it at all?

You just obliterated the study of history.

History is a fascinating science and magistra vitae. However, the difference between us is that you can only rely on History to know sth about communist Poland while I have both History and my personal experiences at the disposal. It is me who remember the atmosphere of that time, the annoynance of ordinary people whose emotions would soon explode into fury if sth wasn`t done to reform the system. You know nothing about it.

Do you mean what I know??? hahahaha

Solidarity was a non-violent movement.

Go back to history books and check there were a few Solidarities. hahahaha One of them was Fighting Solidarity. And other fiercely anticommunist groups.

because they knew the fragile Polish economy could not sustain more strikes and lack of production

Wrong! You seem to express your respect for their "patriotic feelings" about Poland and its future. Please, stop coz it is ridiculous. Communists didn`t care about anything except power - the economy could collapse totally as long as they still ruled the country. Again, go back to history books and find what Jerzy Urban said during one of his conferences about the government after the US imposed sanctions. . Sth that pissed people off to the maximum.

that the unified voice of the Polish people was an undeniable sign that the political legitimacy of the regime was severely compromised.

hahaha funny. So, you claim they were decent rulers who cared about the opinions of common people. hahahaha

but it wasn't violent protests that drove them to negotiations.

Who said they were?

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

In the case of Belarus this also included things such as polish public TV operating a TV channel airing in Belarussian and Russian.

Yes, it is a praiseworthy activity, reminds me of Radio Free Europe or Voice of America which we eagerly listened to in communist times. Their contribution for democratic changes in Eastern block was invaluable. I still have cassettes with Kaczmarski`s concert which I recorded from RFE in early 1980s

However, you should know or remember that in 2017 PiS nominee, Foreign Minister Waszczykowski suspended the financing for the station and there was a big brawl about it.

Genealogy / Polish Gypsy Roots & Roma ancestors in their families [205]

some unfortunately passed in concentration camps.

Thousands of Polish gypsies perished in Auschwitz death camp.

Recently my Roma neighbor is convinced I am Romani.

Anything is possible. But I know pure Poles who look like Asians or Romani, too. You would need to do a DNA test to make sure.

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

I appreciate and respect the civil suggestion of an compromise, but it wouldn't be accurate. :)

hahaha So you reject a compromise??? Very well, I will have to be tough with you now.

You said directly that violent protests didn`t contribute at all:: the communist regime in Poland did not fall because of violent protests, but through more peaceful means (strikes, economic pressures, and political pressures.

Of course it isn`t true.

If there is evidence communist regime wanted to make concessions with Solidarity because of protests, I'm unaware of it would be happy to see it.

You are unaware coz you aren`t Polish, didn`t live in Poland at the time and didn`t read enough books about it later on. So, your ignorance is natural, sort of.

Explanation: In late 1980s, workers and other groups started getting rebellious again. Communists knew that after peaceful strikes the next step would be violent protests which had already occured in 1981-84 and caused a lot of trouble to the regime. To avoid such protests which might end up with burning party buildings and executions of communists in streets, they agreed to talk with the opposition in 1988. I read a book by Jerzy Urban, infamous spokesman for the regime, who directly admits communists feared being lynched by angry mob if protests got out of control. A popular rhymed saying at the time: Communists will hang on trees instead of leaves.

Isn`t it logical? .

It would be better to have a war with soviet establishment in Poland provided that Polish side would have been victorious.

That`s what the Polish elites at the time - both communists and opposition, wanted to avoid at any cost. The civil war is a disaster in any country. Wishing it to happen is criminal thinking of a rabid fascist nationalist.

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [692]

trim the branches yourself - you can get some fresh air and some exercise at the same time. Get your kids to help

Probably you have no idea what size those 60 year old walnuts trees are - 15 metres tall at least. The branch which fell down was as thick as my thigh. I had a big problem with lifting it, I had to drag it along. Kids` help with trimming was out of question - but later they helped me to take it to the campfire place.

Yes, last year I did some trimming on another walnut tree whose branches hit the roof during gales. I did it in the early morning to avoid arguments, but my wife has the sixth sense (typical woman) and sensed the situation. She got out and seeing me 8 metres above the ground, when I was sitting on a long branch and cutting off its end, she went a bit hysterical. The mattresses I had put on the ground to ease my possible fall didn`t calm her down. It wasn`t a pleasant situation for me.

Here is the whole story:

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [692]

Thx to Nj law,if a branch falls off in neighbors yard he is responsible,

No, the branch fell onto my neighbour`s field which is close to my property. His own house is about 500 metres away. The branch crushed some growing wheat which was still so young it recuparated easily and when I looked at that spot just before harvest, it didn`t differ from the rest.

Do the branches have any black dots?

Nope. I read a lot about possible diseases, fungi etc but found none of the symptoms on the tree. When I try to break its twigs, they are still flexible, like in a living plant, not dry like in a dead one. The showdown will take place in spring next year - we`ll see if it is able to grow new needles.

Law / Old Polish money banknotes - what's their value today? [415]

I have 10,000, 5,000 and 500 bills

10.000 bills are valued about 40 PLN an auction sites. If the total sum is over 100.000, then if you sell ten 10.000 notes, you can get around 400 PLN. Not bad.

Murzyn isn`t racist

Yet, various institutions and companies have been calling to drop it in everyday usage as contemptuous and burdened with too many negative conotations. One of those institutions is the Polish Language Committee

Fu*k the EU anyhow.

Please, calm down. Keep it civil like a cultural person.

Besides, Belarussians aren`t stupid and can see how quickly Poland has been developing in the EU and how their own country has been staggering and hopelessly coping with increasing economic crisis.

Do you know financial figures for Belarus and Poland?

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

When angry protesters threw stones which injured the riot police and set fire to their vehicles, was it violent or not?

I never said it was the only thing that contributed to the fall of communism;

But you said this: the communist regime in Poland did not fall because of violent protests, but through more peaceful means (strikes,

I quoted it in my previous post but it got deleted somehow, I don`t know why.

How about such a compromise: both violent protests and peaceful ones like strikes contributed to the fall of communism. ?? hahaha
