News / Time to clean the swamp - dePiSification of Poland [324]

Poland has to be depisified after 8 years of growing and promoting their swamp by PiS and other rightists. In this thread we can mention all cases of cleaning this swamp.

Main areas where the PiS swamp is the deepest:

- public state media: both national and local TV, radio and papers which PiS seized under total control and used to ruthlessly attack the opposition in communist style

- the judiciary where PIS created illegal institutions infested with their supporters whose main aim was to remove independent judges who obeyed the rule of law.

- relations with the EU - currently, the EU is withholding huge funds for Poland coz PiS gov refused to obey European laws, mainly in the judiciary.

- state companies where PIS gangsters planted their families and friends in all boards to suck state assets by millions.

- the gov area where PIS created as many positions for their ministers, deputy ministers, deputy deputy ministers and their secretaries of state as possible to suck off state assets even more - theirs was the largest gov ever ruling in independent Poland.

-also, all criminal acts commited by PIS have to be examined and punished. Apart from breaking criminal law, they have to answer for breaking the Constitution.

The depisification is necessary to strengthen democracy in Poland. I can see that after the lost elections PIS isn`t going to come to their senses and change their autocratic approach. No, they seem the same obsessed autocratic maniacs as before and are proud of it. They have learnt nothing.

There is no other way to save Poland from autocratic rightists than the thorough cleaning of the swamp.
PiS has left the veritable Augean Stables in Poland but I hope the new gov will deal with it step by step.

History / Recommended Poland's history books [257]

I find this analysis a little unfair towards Kosciuszko.

He tried to do his best but the resistance of the gentry to draft more peasants into the army was too big and the rising failed, like all later risings in the 19th century. Instead of encouraging thousands of peasants to join the army, there were only 300 scythers who fought gallantly against Russians at the battle of Racławice. Too few. While state troops, though patriotic, well trained and equipped, were too scarce to repel Russian masses.

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

What are 3 ways a teacher can find out about students` mental issues???

Paulina refused to answer the riddle so I have to do it myself. :):):)

The first source, although the rarest, is the student. Most students with issues are reserved and embarassed and prefer to keep everything secret.
Next one is the parent who notifies the form tutor about his/her child`s problems.
And in result, the last source is the form tutor who informs other teachers who have the contact with the child in class. It is obvious they should know such things.

When one of our kids had depression once, we talked to the form tutor immediately and didn`t mind she spread the news among other teachers.

Life / Do you collect mushrooms in your country? Poles in Poland do. [94]

Most Poles consider puffballs inedible mushrooms. But they make a big mistake coz puffballs when young are tasty and delicate.
Here are the ones which grow in our orchard.

As usual in my case, fried. With some leftovers of paella-like dish and mizeria salad.

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

Will they also love Poland when attitudes change in 10, 15 years` time"? It is unavoidable coz Poland perfectly follows the path of Western countries Dirk Will you still love Poland?

I thought I asked this question not so long ago, last year or so.. No, it is from 2019. Time passes so quickly..

Of course. It's my motherland. I'd love it even if it was still the PRL.

Yes, that`s your reply and I already said it made a great impression in me.

Now you are in another world and can see how Poland is changing according to my words. Let your soul eventually reconcile with it. I say regular prayers for you to make this reconciliation easier. May you rest in eternal peace.

News / Polish final report on Smoleńsk aircrash [870]

A known journalist reminisces on the death of her husband, a gov security officer, in the air crash of 2010, in this poem:

"Time erases traces
the color of eyes, the touch of hands, the smell of skin
breathing in sleep, quiet, calm
distant

Shirts folded in a chest
air from the lungs in an inflatable toy
fading letters in the margins
Holy

Last message, a hint of a smile
a look met in the eyes of the son
a gesture repeated, although impossible
like a bridge

Over time
over life
over a stone.

History / What do Poles owe to Hungarians? [275]

Here is a good article which corroborates my view from May 2022 - Hungarians support their autocratic nationalist leadership coz they believe that President Orban will bring back Hungary its past borders.

onet.pl/informacje/przegladpolityczny/jak-viktor-orban-zawlaszczyl-panstwo-zaczal-od-sadow-brzmi-znajomo/fz60fh1,30bc1058

The ending of the article

But has he really achieved everything? His hagiographer Gábor F. Fodor probably wrote the truth and hit the nail on the head when he claimed that Orban is the only leader who "is able to complete the great work of Hungarian unity", like King St. Stefan. In his opinion, only leaders of this stature - visionaries and charismatic leaders - "are able to reach the top." And these words and many similar words in the local government propaganda prove one thing: Hungary under Orbán's leadership not only said goodbye to liberal democracy and built a leader-like and authoritarian system, but is also a revisionist force in the region, dreaming of rebuilding the existing borders.

Viktor Orbán has already achieved so much that he himself believed in favorable stars and the reconstruction of Hungary from the times of Saint's Crown. Stefan. But will he achieve this goal? And if so, at what cost? How long will Orbán's charm, myth and charisma last? We do not know. However, we know that true authoritarianism has been built within the EU.

Orban constantly alludes to the Treaty of Trianon which deprived Hungarians of massive lands and population. in 1920.

Life / Wszystkich Świętych (All Saints Day) // Dzien Zaduszny (All Souls day) [96]

All Saints Day is a national holiday, and a day when people all over Poland visit the graves of loved ones and to place candles and flowers on graves.

The media reminisce about known people who have died in the last year - primarily Polish but foreign too.

Food / Fermentation rulez! Poles love fermented foods [21]

grilled corn.

This baby corn I mentioned isn`t suitable for grilling - too small.
However, it is perfect for making sour soup with fermented veg. Normally, it is based on cucumbers, however I added everything what was in the jar.

The span between jarring and making the soup is exactly 2 weeks.

Goddess forbid. Keep Russian imperialists the furthest from Poland possible. Why don`t they become a part of China instead of Poland? I would gladly pay them for that.

that show the masks did nothing.

Sorry, we don`t believe far rightists. A link or apologise for lying as usual.

I can agree with everything else, but this sounds like a conspiracy theory.

Polam either suffers from bouts giving him a sort of a mental blackout or he has become an attention sicker like Novi. Amassing!

The EU is all about a "United States of Europe", which will never happen!!

You got it all wrong - United States of Europe don`t exclude help.
Actually, the EU helped decent Poles get rid of rightists. Let`s say our prayers for it.

More plastic bottles on the table.

Exactly, I am showing them on purpose. To show you that Poles don`t pretend to be British aristocrats like Americans always do. Ha!

Why are they serving that "no good" American soda in the first place?

American soda is OK. It is Am Polish azholes like you who aren`t OK. hahahaha

News / Dodgy PRL-holdover judiciary finally reformed [420]

The final summarising commentary:

PIS was trying to suppress independent judges and take over the whole judiciary for themselves so that they could steal, get corrupted and cause accidents without any legal consequences. They nominated their own renegade judges and members of legal institutions, sometimes breaking the Constitution and Polish law.

It proved useless in the end.

The vast majority of Polish judiciary resisted gallantly, with the help of the EU which defended the rule of law in Poland. PIS lost the elections. The new gov is going to introduce necessary changes soon.

After a storm there is the sun. ALWAYS. All pessimists, remember about it.

Life / The Polish Wedding - What is it Like in Poland? [338]

One more Polish tradition which I documented after the fact - while I was parking the car, the newlyweds were welcomed to the wedding hall with a loaf of country bread and salt. Later on this loaf was exhibited on their table.

Vodka which is made of grain is called the liquid bread in Poland. Let`s drink it!!! The label on the bottle reads: there are people for whom it is worth having a drink. Meaning the newly weds.

Yes, Joker is an azhole, shortly speaking. Luckily, he realises it. :):)

The pics Pawian posted looked like fairly typical Polish wedding pics to me

In the evening the dance floor is very busy with some ritual group dancing.

,had masks first and how was it after they took them off?

It was the time when there weren`t strict laws on what kind of mask you had to wear. That is why people, when inside, of course, were wearing this stuff which didn`t affect make up.
