Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

Wulkan, first of all, let's take a deep breath and calm down.

I am calm all the time, you just make the things up right now.

Seeing as you live in England, and not knowing how often you visit Poland,

About 6-8 times a year on average.

I am curious as to how saying that "Krakow... is quickly becoming the Paris of Poland" gives someone a "better image of it"? Have you seen Paris and Krakow lately?

Of course I have seen both cities and they are nothing alike, that celestyne you quoted is some sort of idiot.

See! We CAN agree on something! ;)

Of course we can

as you seem to be missing my point, and instead seem intent on making it abundantly clear that Poland is central Europe.

I made my point in capital letters but it's till a point and you are trying to twist it against me or someting.

I'm only trying to express my viewpoint, engage in civilized discussion

You talk more about your "civilized discussion" than you make point imo. Do I insult you? No, so how am I not trying to engage in civilized discussion and you are?

You know, you are right. For some reason it's instilled in our heads that you have to be like the west, because the west is better.

This is an utter non sens, It rarely happens but if it does it's just to camper the person or the place that is better know so someone can have better image of it, it's not wannabe thing.

You make a fundamental mistake NOBODY IS SAYING POLAND IS WESTERN EUROPE, IT IS CENTRAL EUROPE AND YOU CAN SEE IT EVERY TIME YOU LOOK AT THE MAP OF EUROPE AND POLISH: LANGUAGE, ALPHABET, CUISINE, RELIGION, ARCHITECTURE, MENTALITY, EVEN THE TIME ZONE IS CENTRAL EUROPEAN

Please explain why is it so hard to comprehend for you?!

Love / Are Polish men handsome to you? [182]

What the heck is a "slavic trait" and why is that negative?

For him it's negative because it reminds him of people who hurt him.

But them they put those adidas sweater and other clothes like a hooligan

I don't. I wear tracksuit only when I play football or doing some workout.

Also what's this about boxers and briefs

Maybe chesnakas likes to show his erection in public for which boxers is perfect choice. Briefs nicely hold everything down there where it should be when you don't use it.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

Uh.... I'm pretty sure Nigeria IS in Africa. Where do you think it is?

You completely confused what I said, reading comprehension seems to be something you have issues with.

How does saying eastern europe make it a different continent??

I'm just talking from experience, some people like to talk about so called EE like it was some exotic, god forsaken, thirld world continent that has nothing to do with the rest of Europe.

What I am having trouble understanding is why you're conflating "not whitewashing the uniqueness out of yourself" with "every slavic country is exactly the same!" - unless you're purposefully trying to be obtuse.

What?!

So, while I appreciate the fact that you grew up in a time where eastern european had negative connotations

I grew up in times when almost nobody in Poland was familiar with the term eastern european, I have heard the term for the first time when I was 24 and this is what I saying before but you didn't get it: Can you imagine Nigerian guy who is 24 and he doesn't know that he is from Africa?

I was taught in primary school that Poland is in Central Europe and I will stick to that till the day I die and regardless you like it or not and if you like to call yourself eastern european woman because you believe that men around will find you more attractive ROFL than please go ahead, just make sure you dont get upset when one of them will ask you how much for one hour.

so many people in Poland who are desperately trying to turn Poland into a second-rate version of some generic "western european" country

Nobody has ever said anything like that

being proud of their heritage and their past and building a strong, unique Poland.

Yes, unique Poland! unique from Germany, unique from France, unique from Russia, unique from Bulgaria, unique from Romania etc. is that what are you trying to say? too bad not.

I don't think we're Western Europeans.

I have never hear from a Pole

Maybe your imperfect English makes you less comprehensible for those Poles you speak to.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

but now I feel that for the past several years the term central Europe and the idea that Poland is central european have been gaining more popularity.

No, in Poland we always were thought in geography lessons that Poland is in Central Europe. For the first time I came across the term Eastern Europe at the age of 24 when I was in England. If I'm from Eastern Europe then why I didn't know that before? It's a bullsh1t ideology that makes it a seperate continent. Can you imagine a guy from Nigeria coming to Europe and finding out that he is from Africa?

I think it's always better to be proud of who you are and of your roots rather than try to whitewash the uniqueness out of yourself in order to try to approximate something or someone else.

You completely don't understand it here, every Slavic country is different from one another so there is no such a thing like one Slavic culture that applies to every Slavic country. There are also countries that are not Slavic like Hungary, Romania, Estonia etc and how they are supposed to feel about that Eastern European bullsh1t?

Genealogy / Common surnames in Poland NOT of Polish origin ? [89]

Polish or German. I don't care, it's just his first name. It bares little importance.

Since you made a confident statement of the name to be Slavic I just decided to correct you.

I'm asking if Miller is popular in Poland or Eastern Europe?

There is quite a number of them in Poland. Eastern Europe? I have no idea.

Life / Move to Poland or UK? (Advice needed) [51]

IT'S VERY POLISH COUNTRY WITH VERY VERY FEW FOREIGNERS AND THAT'S VERY BORING FOR ME

So I guess it's time to finally move on, Denmark is apparently the first European country to become an islamic state in the future, you'll feel right at home.

Life / Which nations do Poles like the most / the least? [150]

Deutschland uber alles and if I were a young Pole with technical ability I know what foreign language I would bust a gut to learn. It's a non-brainer.

Indeed. I regret I didn't put more effort in learning German when I was younger. Here (England) we cooperate with German and Austrian companies a lot, they don't always speak good English so I switch to German that leaves a lot to be desired too.

Language / Your perception of the Polish accent [145]

If they speak american english, it is kind beautiful.

Well, American English makes more sense for us Polish and it sounds better when it's spoken by the natives too.

Actually i find british english already ugly anyway, speaking like spit on someone.

There are loads of English accents but I know what you mean. When I came to England people were often guessing that I'm from Germany or Austria, someone told me that when I speak English I sound like his friend who is Canadian French from Quebec.

"BORAT"

There is a quote option on the forum, putting the quotation marks won't indicate who are you quoting.

I think the TV is a good idea, Polish cartoons will help him for sure, remember that the time is running and the older he is the less you can do about it.
