Love / Are Polish mothers-in-law monsters? [91]

I would though question why my neighbor was taking pictures of my mother in law, entering my home.

it seems to be nothing more than neighbourhood watch.

Language / Polish baby talk [20]

Polish, like other languages, has words and phrases used by or when speaking to small children.

there are probably a few words that stay within the family. i mean (childhood) mispronounced words that become helpful, fun words.

Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [167]

looks like a worthy cause has been turned into naff comercialism in Poland before the UK

I think Poland had Women's Day before they had International Women's Day. Hence the commercialism has always been here.

Food / Taste of food in Poland vs other countries [186]

My main issue with Polish food is not that it's "bad", it's more this stubborn insistence from so many Poles that it is so wonderful. It's just ordinary. Some of it is nice, some of it awful, most just "OK".

i'm in agreement with this.

Life / Why Polish people should be proud of being Polish? [370]

Beacuse running to any sort of authority and reporting on your colleague's faults is what kids at school do, not grown-up men.

you don't seem to have spent much time in the workplace

Genealogy / Jewish Roots of Poland [638]

it rather not possible. most of polish jews lived separately in their towns

i've met a few Polish folk who have come across an obvious distortion regarding their family history.

Love / How do Polish men feel about gender equality? [780]

How should I approach this with them?

get their leader into the office and tell him who the boss is and remind him that he and his team can be replaced. tell him u are not in the habit of being questioned and don't like to repeat yourself... especially to fellow professionals. make it plain that if they are not happy with this arrangement they may leave now. u are the boss... act like one.

Genealogy / Help me find my cousins from Rybnik [25]

they left without word and haven't communicated with any family members.

if u are looking for people who don't want to be found u have a difficult task.

however, i still believe they may have made contact with old friends.

dumb question: how do u know they changed names, if they cut off all contact ?

Law / Starting a private kindergarten in Poland [44]

I guess the old adage of Location, location, location is even more important when it comes to kindergartens

u might want to look at the more wealthy districts one or two miles/kms from the town centre.

that would be the south part of town with regard to wroclaw.

Genealogy / Help me find my cousins from Rybnik [25]

They left Poland in the late 1980's and changed their last names.

find the original name on facebook, nasza klasa etc and hope a sibling/cousin of theirs kept the name.

then look on the friend list for a first name match.

How/why did they change their names ? through marriage ?

UK, Ireland / Polish and Irish people are related? [137]

''Polish and Irish people are related ?''

have you seen her?

i have. she doesn't look Irish to me.

for me, the celts may have passed through Poland, but i refuse to believe the Poles and Irish are related.

other than strong faith i wouldn't say they have that much in common either. no more than than the English, Scottish and a few others.

Life / Walking on other people's property in Poland - cultural difference? [51]

I once read that crime was lower in areas with front lawns.

i can believe that.

i know of a street in wroclaw where the occupants cut down all (front garden) bushes and small trees to make it more difficult for burglars who had been plaguing the area.
