History / What do Poles owe to Jews? [586]

founded on Sarmatism. Meaning, it was Serbian state.

What??? Sarmatism is a purely Polish idea and concept. What has Serbia to do with it?

if Poland deflect from papacy

That's what we should do. I agree with the words of Polish pre-WW2 foreign minister Józef Beck, who said:

"Vatican is one of the most responsible parties for the tragedy of my country. Too late had I realised that we conducted foreign policies serving the egoistic agenda of the Catholic Church."

pl.wikiquote.org/wiki/J%C3%B3zef_Beck

Roman-catholic Church has been one of the most destructive forces in Polish history. Thwarting Polish spirit, freedom struggles and uprisings - one could write books on the topic. Poland would be in a completely different place if the counter-reformation had failed and we had followed either the Lutheran or Reformed path.

Sorbs are not Poles

Mother Poland claims all Slavs as her rightful children. ;)

News / Ryszard Czarnecki - Poland's politician and Member of the European Parliament [28]

Is he not being prosecuted for fraud?

A politician? Prosecuted for fraud? In Poland? Are you kidding me?

That would be a nightmare, thin edge of the wedge. We don't have nearly enough prosecutors, judges and prisons to open this Pandora's box.

he always was an a-hole

I am not a keen admirer of his political talents either.

History / Kashubians are nation in Poland? [123]

I identify as a Kashubian (Kaszuba) myself. :) There is a strong feeling of ethnic identity among us, and yes - Kashubian IS a different language (not a dialect!) but it is all within a greater Polish ethos. People who compare Kashubia or Silesia to Kosovo, where an entirely different nation from Serbian emerged (mainly through Albanian women giving birth to babies and Serbian women... well... they probably had something more important to do), are competely ignorant.

Kashubians and Silesians are small minorities, living among overwhelming Polish majority in both regions:

- 230k Kashubians and over 2.1 million Poles in Pomerania (and these are not exclusive groups - most Kashubians identify as Poles also);
- it is the same in Silesia - 800k Silesians among over 7 million Poles in both Upper and Lower Silesia (double identification applies as well).

Both ethnicities - Silesian and Kashubian - are Slavic peoples, speaking Slavic languages/dialects, so comparing these two minorities to Albanians in Kosovo (different nationality, different language, different religion) is beyond ridiculous.

News / Ryszard Czarnecki - Poland's politician and Member of the European Parliament [28]

It is about 100.000 PLN.

It's actually 100k euro.

businessinsider.com.pl/wiadomosci/nie-tylko-ryszard-czarnecki-lista-politykow-ktorzy-mogli-naciagac-podatnikow-jest/fkz3bff

oko.press/czarnecki-musi-zwrocic-parlamentowi-europejskiemu-nawet-100-tys-euro/

It is always a mystery to me -- the level of greed of some people. He was the vice-president of the European Parliament, he was raking it in (he was a European MP for 16 years!). And still he felt it necessary to cheat and steal the European taxpayers' money (and the travel expenses were peanuts compared to his official earnings). If it happened during PO's reign it would be a scandal on a national scale, and today--nothing--Czarnecki is still a PiS member and he is still writing articles for PiS-controlled newspapers and magazines. A moral authority, one might say.

Mind boggles.

Life / Polish and Czechs [190]

Poles are proud of their honour and have to rebuild Warsaw

Hmm... would I rather have...

1. ... razed buildings and my honour intact?
2. ... lovely buildings and my anus sore?

After much consideration I go for option 1.

Life / Polish and Czechs [190]

Czechia is an absolutely lovely country. The only reservation I have is that whenever the sh*t hits the fan they tend to turn around, bend over and spread their butt cheeks rather invitingly.

Other than that, nice people.

Love / Do Polish people like Scottish people (friendship or relationship with a Scot)? [56]

only real freedom Scots may find within Slavic civilization

Many of them did. Especially in 16th and 17th centuries we had waves of Scottish immigration to Poland. They settled mostly in cities, but also founded their own settlements; even today we still have villages called Szkocja (Scotland) or Szkoty (Scots). They eventually assimilated and assumed Polish-sounding names (e.g. Czamer (Chalmers), Czochran (Cochrane), Dziaksen (Jackson), Kabron (Cockburn), Machlejd (Macleod), Szynkler (Sinclair)), so many Poles are actually Scots without even realising it. :)

Life / Poles turn their backs on organised religion. [85]

we shouldn`t give up our faith. Faith in God, of course, not the corrupt Church.

Well said.

Poland is Christian to the core. Faith will certainly survive here. As for the roman-catholic religious institution... well, they will get exactly what they deserve.

Life / Poles turn their backs on organised religion. [85]

Nobody and nothing can stop it.

... and the "church" have only themselves to blame.

Nowhere else than in the ranks of roman-catholic bishops have all the deadly sins been more prominent. They have disgraced themselves and lost all their credibility (if they ever had any) as Christians. People are turning back from this apostate body towards true evangelical, biblical Christianity.

Off-Topic / How do you think being a pro Russian outliner in Poland would get you treated? [20]

Do you guys think its sacrilege (...) being pro Russia and being a proud eastern european?

Certainly not. There is even a political party that would gladly welcome you as a member (and I don't mean Zmiana). :)

Germans have never been friends to the Poles

Historically this might be somewhat accurate, but in recent 30 years or so there aren't many countries in Europe (or anywhere else) as consistently friendly towards Poland as Germany have been. So maybe (just maybe) 75 years after the war, and 30 years of constant political and economic support from Germany, it would be a good time now to start changing the way we view our western neighbours. Here's hoping.

News / Germany eyes Poland's economic miracle [12]

Since the Law and Justice Party (PiS) came to power in 2015, the EU's sixth-largest economy has drawn attention primarily over its alleged democratic backsliding. At the same time, however, the resilience of the Polish economy has been astonishing.

History / History of Polish-Russian relations [186]

Who said that a Russian patriot must be Poland's friend?

Nobody is saying that.

However, there is a fine line between "not being a friend of a country" and not "being interested in the existence" of this country "in any form". :)

They keep on throwing up wild-eyed prophets.

They do indeed. *rolls eyes*

History / History of Polish-Russian relations [186]

Did you read his works in Russian or in some Polish interpretation?

I read articles about him, but I particularly remember a press interview with him (I don't remember what periodical it was) in which he claimed that there is no place for independent Poland between Russia and Germany (or something to that effect). The interview was translated into Polish but I doubt they would misinterpret his words so much as to mean something completely different.

Take this quotation from Dugin in the article I linked, there's something very similar to his usual rants, it starts with...

dla Polski miejsca nie ma. [...] Rosja w swoim geopolitycznym oraz sakralno-geograficznym rozwoju nie jest zainteresowana istnieniem niepodległego państwa polskiego w żadnej postaci.

Translation: "There is no place for Poland on the eurasian continent [...] Russia in her geopolitical and sacral-geographical development is not interested in the existence of independent Polish state in any form. She is not interested in the existence of Ukraine either. Not because we don't like Poles or Ukrainians but because such are the laws of sacral geography and geopolitics."

He should be kept in a place with very few door handles and windows...

It incubated individuals like that.

I understand that. The problem is that this lunatic is listened to by Russian nationalists and exerts influence over Kremlin as well.

History / History of Polish-Russian relations [186]

Today, it's the US, dressed up as NATO.

Exactly. That's where Polish pro-American foreign policy stems from, which leads to the accusations of Poland being "American Trojan donkey" in the EU. We know that the US is our only hope if sh*t ever really hits the fan.

lunatics here on this forum who cheer America's decline

America is not perfect but I don't think I would like to live in a world where either China or Russia take over global domination. I know that some people wish for the US to lose their international position--those people probably haven't thought this through (a classic case of "be careful what you wish for").

EDIT: The post I was replying to seems to have disappeared. Hmm...

Probably because some of it was of topic

News / New "Polish memorial" in Berlin [316]

Sins of the Rome and Vatican

I noticed, Crow, that you are not particularly fond of the Roman Catholic Church.

You will be happy to know that at the moment RCC in Poland is doing everything to alienate themselves from a large part of Polish society. The paedophile scandals taught them absolutely nothing (look at the recent case of late "father" Dymer as one of countless examples), they are sleazily servile towards the current government, and they are involved in horrid sacramental prostitution* ("kurewstwo sakramentalne" as many people here call it).

So, the influence of RCC on Poles is something that you should slowly stop worrying about. They are performing a spectacular seppuku in Poland at the moment.

*I would gladly tell you more about it, but I don't want to go too much off-topic (can PM you with details if you want).

History / History of Polish-Russian relations [186]

Inspired by the discussion of German and Russian atrocities in WW2 including Katyń, in another thread, here's some thoughts on the topic.

Russia officially apologised for Katyń; it was one of many atrocities during a horrible, truly barbaric war. We have to remember the victims but what happened in the past is certainly less important than what is going on in the present. Katyń would have been forgiven long time ago, if it wasn't for the constant Russian hostility towards Poland today, not 80 years ago.

It is in today's Russia that books like that...

rosyjska kniga

... are printed, not 80 years ago.

It is today, not 80 years ago, that in Russia people like this raving lunatic...

Dugin

... are listened to attentively and cherished, instead of being locked up in a mental asylum.

jagiellonia.org/zlote-mysli-kremlowskiego-szamana/

Constant stream of hostility is what's coming towards Poland from Russia. Imagine if such books were printed in Germany and if German ideologues denied Poland the very right to existence (as Dugin does). Imagine if German mentality and attitude towards Poles hadn't changed compared to 80 years ago as it is still the case with Russia.

One of the paradoxes of Polish-Russian relations is that ordinary people in both countires are certainly not hostile towards each other, and on a simple cultural (not civilisational - it's a different matter) level, most of them acknowledge our common Slavic heritage and get on perfectly well. It is on the governmental level that Russia still displays the same Soviet, or even tsarist, attitude towards Poland ("Курица не птица, Польша не заграница"). If that doesn't change then nothing will change.

I wonder what other posters' thoughts on the topic are.

When Germany crumbles...

... pigs will fly.

Despite many crises Germany is still the EU's leader and an industrial powerhouse, which is a good thing for Poland as Polish and German economies are very closely intertwined. To wish ill to Germany is ultimately to wish ill to Poland.

History / Malinowo: Polish-Nazi Supression? [447]

unit cohesion?

I don't know about Muslims or Buddhists, but Polish army units were a mix of Catholic, Jewish and Orthodox soldiers, and it didn't seem to damage their morale/cohesion at all.

There were probably Polish Tatars (Muslim) in some of them too - again, no problems with cohesion.

The British Army did

Interesting. I wonder for what purpose.

@dolnoslask

The article you linked says...

100,000 Jews fought in the Polish army against the German invasion (...) 10% of the Polish army, commensurate with the percentage of Jews

...but I am still not quite sure where they would get such information from.

They did in a remote country like Italy to mark their graves

Of course, friends knew one another's religion, so they knew what sort of tombstone to use, but nobody seriously counted the soldiers of different religions.

Jewish organizations knew

I doubt it.

Still no number.

You might as well ask "how many Lutherans served in the Polish Army?" or Pentecostals, Orthodox or Buddhists. I don't think any country in WW2 kept detailed statistics about the religion of their soldiers.

The service of the Jewish Poles is without question

Correct.

Virtually every Polish fighting unit in WW2 had numerous Jews in its ranks (be it on the eastern or western front). Below, some of the graves of Polish soldiers of Mosaic confession in Polish military cemetery in Monte Cassino:
