USA, Canada / Help get my girlfriend to Canada! [19]

If there are many other beggars asking for money for nothing it doesn't mean that you should be one of them. You're not Syrian asking for food.

Life / New to Poland (Bydgoszcz) - cost of living there [46]

As it's Bydgoszcz I would expect minimum 2000pln net. Link to IT salaries in Poland I gave here:

Bydgoszcz doesn't belong to top biggest cities in Poland, so I guess salaries there are around 50% of those in Warsaw.

Cost of living you can check in Numbeo. Here you have Warsaw to Bydgoszcz price & earnings comparison: As you can see Bydgoszcz has a lot lower rent prices comparing with Warsaw.

Life / New to Poland (Bydgoszcz) - cost of living there [46]

When working in city car is not necessary, then monthly ticket for public transport costs max 120zł.

Of course there are taxes in Poland: [taxrates.cc/html/poland-tax-rates.html]. But what you should care is only that from Gross salary after income tax and obligatory insurance deduction you will be left with 30 - 40% less. Meaning net is 60 - 70 % of gross salary.

With 2000 PLN net you can live sparingly. If you want to have a little bit of joy from consumption then you should get min 3000 PLN net.

And according to this page: median salary for IT workers in Kujawsko Pomorskie (region where Bydgoszcz is) is 4500PLN Gross. It's 3200PLN Net.

Large companies in Poland tend to pay more. In addition to differences that were evident at the level of provinces, significant discrepancies in pay notice in enterprises of all sizes. As seen in Table 1, together with the size of the company grows median wages. The smallest employers offered an average of 3 900 PLN , while in large companies (employing 1 000 people or more ), the median salaries amounted to 7 000 PLN.

The higher in the hierarchy of the higher earnings. The IT industry is no different from others in that it , together with the senior organization earnings were higher. Rank and file employees earned 3 500 PLN , but the income of specialist positions amounted to 6 000 PLN . Average salary of managers in this sector amounted to 8 700 PLN . More earned only directors and representatives of the board. Median their wages amounted to 15 000 PLN . So it was more than 4 times higher than regular employees , and 2.5 -fold surpassed salary specialists.

Work / CAN SOMEONE GET WEB / GRAPHIC DESIGN JOB IN POLAND? [12]

I believe that you could easily find somebody in Poland to do same job for around 1100 eur. Don't you know odesk.com or similar website? Of course it's not easy ti find reliable partner, so perhaps don't search for a new if you are happy with the current one.

Law / Karta Pobytu - Residence Card - Problem with address [13]

"My gf told me that we can show adress at her(lives with family), but I won't be able to live there." - that's not a problem. In such case she will be your "post office box".

Study / How hard is it to get accepted to Wroclaw University of Technology? / Unis in general? [37]

What did you mean DominicB ? That Wroclaw University of Technology is 3rd in Poland? I don't get this comparison with Imperial. IT there shouldn't be so outdated as Biochemistry. Anyway it changes so fast that it's enough that they teach you some bases and in your 1st job you will have to learn something what wasn't taught in university anyway. Since you're for English course in Polish uni, it won't be free. Then you may consider pjwstk.edu.pl - as it's best private school in Poland and they should be quite up to date with currents IT trends. What more AGH, or Politechnika Warszawska are considered same good as Politechnika Wrocławska. With bad marks probably you have no chances for IT course in polish there. Have no Idea how big competition would be in English. Must be lower, as it's not free. (or maybe something has changed and they do now free courses in English in Poland)

Life / Is living cost in Poland lower than Germany ? [32]

- here they say that Warsaw is around 25% cheaper, when comparing with Berlin (considered in Germany as a cheap city).

- SGH is the best in Poland, but I don't think that it's recognized internationally, so if you don't plan to work in Poland after graduation, perhaps better do master in Germany.

Study / How hard is it to get accepted to Wroclaw University of Technology? / Unis in general? [37]

I think that the quality of courses is also affected by the lack of substantial biochemical industry in Poland. So it cannot be very motivating to teach future unemployed. And ratio of people getting lab job after biochemistry in Poland is extremely low. IT department should be much better, because of quite strong IT sector, presence of international IT companies in the city, so because of that teachers know that students are taught to become real engineers.

News / Why is Amazon not present in Poland? [57]

johnmercerlondon.wordpress.com/2011/09/

Everybody younger than 40 with internet is buying here online. There were gossips that our postal service is not acceptable for Amazon. But I find it funny. If it's too slow for them here then could simply inform that shipping in Poland takes 1 day more than elsewhere.

It will take a few years before online shopping truly takes off.

Apparently you have not idea about earnings of companies like Allegro. Difference to top countries can be explained by lower percentage of internet users here.

Work / IT Jobs in Poland? [30]

gowork.pl/praca_krakow_helpdesk
jooble.com.pl/search-vacancy-pl/rgn-Kraków/kw-help-desk
pracuj.pl/praca/helpdesk;kw/kraków;wp

if job advertisement is written in Polish then there is big chance that this language is required for the position.

Study / Jagiellonian university info (types of classes etc.) [4]

Do you speak Polish? Which course do you want to attend there. Give link to website of university with the name of the course, so we may help you finding more information about it. When you ask how hard it is to get there, do you mean bachelor studied in business or something else? How would you like to study here, does your American university has a cooperation with UJ? When it comes to business, SGH in Warsaw and UW are the best I guess. Kraków is a nice students city.

Life / New to Poland (Bydgoszcz) - cost of living there [46]

LTA must be some Indian invention. In Poland worker has 20 to 26 days off pay year (26 is after 10 years of work, study time is included to that) + public holidays:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Poland

BenefitSystem Card - it's the card of the company you're applying for a job, so read their website or ask

Annual bonus as % of base salary According to the goals set in Balanced Score Card 10% - there is a chance for 10% of annual salary bonus if you perform according to their "Balanced Score Card" - it's something from your company

Global Capability Model level 5 - no idea what's that.

one more thing "+a relocation package PLN 600 gross (monthly) " - usually relocation bonus is one time only.

Then ask them for 1 return ticket to India per year. Say that in India you have such thing, maybe they will give you :) You know it's up to company what you get. Mostly corporations give something extra, but in smaller firms you don't get any bonuses or benefits.

"You will be entitled to receive a relocation package in the amount of PLN 600 gross to a rented apartment. This will be paid for a period of 5 years (monthly) " - it would be funny if they pay you 600zł in 60 rates during period of 5 years = 10zł per month :) Because this is what they write.
