Work / Salary expectation for a Junior java developer in Krakow / Warsaw Poland? [17]

Teeth treatment is very cheap in Poland and this is starting salary. Each year you should be getting 15 to 20 percenst salary rise. (If you don't then change job) If you don't need work permit (EU citizen) then you can optimize taxes in order to ger more net. Just ask the company.

Life / Advice on Moving to Zakopane [37]

You can find something in Zakopane for 2000zł:
airbnb.pl/s/Zakopane?checkin=01-02-2015&checkout=28-02-2015&price_max=157&ss_id=spwuvo23

Random ski-pass in Zakopane costs 80zł per day.
skionline.pl/stacje/polska-tatry-i-podhale-zakopane-harenda,osrodek,1088,skipassy.html

Minimum salary is around 1200zł per day and knowledge and Polish is a must (Russian, German and English useful too).

DominicB tells you right that if you want to live somewhere near mountains, and not just spend money, then move to Scotland, Norway, Austria, Switzerland or even where I am currently - Munich (train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen goes in 1h:22m). Job market and earning potential are way better than in Zakopane and with the salary you can easily afford going every weekend skiing.

And in Poland if somebody is lost like you then is escaping to Bieszczady, not Zakopane :)

Law / In Poland on residence card (married to Polish girl) want travel to UK for 2 weeks! [16]

You don't need it as long as you have Residency Permit and some "European Economic Area Family Permit"

Non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizen Family members A family member of an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen who is in possession of a residence permit indicating their status is exempt from the requirement to hold a visa when entering the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland when they are accompanying their EU/EEA/Swiss family member or are seeking to join them.[67] However the UK requires family members to obtain an EEA Family Permit in order to enter the UK.[68

/wiki/Visa_policy_of_the_United_Kingdom#Entry_and_stay_conditions_for_the_EU.2FEEA.2FSwiss_citizens

And about the "European Economic Area Family Permit:

Family members of EU, EEA and Swiss citizens who are not covered by one of the visa exemptions above can apply for an EEA Family Permit free of charge (instead of a visa).[18]

Work / Is 104000 PLN (yearly) a fair salary for a Software Architect in Wroclaw? [12]

I have a due commetmint of 2710.32 Polish Zloty back home..

You mean that you could get 2700net per month in India?

So considering this, what offer can I expect if I need to stay there with my wife in a normal living apartment.

You should be asking what You should demand and not to expect.

According to:
numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=India&city1=Mumbai&country2=Poland&city2=Wroclaw&displayCurrency=EUR

Consumer Prices Including Rent in Wroclaw are 14.20% higher than in Mumbai. So if you got 2700zł net from Mumbai then it equals to 3800pln net = 5500pln gross in Wrocław. Think that moving to Poland means extra costs of adjusting and travel back home.

As you can read here: https://polishforums.com/work/poland-senior-java-information-salary-73393/#msg1465994 exactly double that is a nice salary in Poland, because allows to live good and even save 1/3 for family of 2.

Law / Can my Canadian girlfriend live with me if I'm a Polish citizen? [2]

She can only stay for maximum 90 days within any 180 day period, starting on the date of entry in the Schengen zone.

consulfrance-vancouver.org/Short-stay-visa-other-than-tourism

There are countries in Europe which don't belong yo Schengen, like UK or Ukraine, so she could spend there remaining 275 days.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Area

She can also get permit to stay for longer on base of work. As a Canadian she should be able to get teaching job somewhere in Europe.

How would things work if we married - would she be required to have a work visa then or could she just be allowed to stay with me because of being my wife?

Then she would be treated by all EU countries as equal. Meaning permit for staying and working is automatically granted, but only as long as she lives with you.

I've heard of the 3 or 5 years rules in order to get permanent residence or citizenship.

Without marriage it's 5 years of continues, legal, not interrupted by more than 6 months, stay in Poland or other EU country. Study counts as 50%.

Would we be allowed to travel to schengen countries during those years or would my girlfriend/future wife need to spend a significant amount of time inside poland's borders specifically?

Girlfriend can travel, but max 6 months in 5 years.

There is one more option if you're not fixed on Poland and don't want to marry. In Belgium and perhaps some other countries there is kind of Civil Partnership agreement, which allows girlfriend to be treated as married by Belgian law, meaning it allows spouse to work, stay in Belgium and do taxation together. Problem it's not recognized by must of EU countries, so when leaving Belgium you will be not married :)

Life / Brits on benefits in Poland? [38]

There was other article about benefits linked under the one from json"
At least 30,000 Britons on unemployment benefit in EU, Guardian research shows

theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jan/19/-sp-thousands-britons-claim-benefits-eu
static.guim.co.uk/ni/1418312656641/EU_Unemployment_Datablog_do.svg

It looks that the most benefits per capita get Slovakians, Lithuanian and Latvians These are countries 7 to 15 times more populous than Poland, but they get only 2.5 to 5 times less benefits.

Work / Senior Java - Information About Salary in Poland - Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw - 3k usd/month [11]

Public health insurance is obligatory deducted from your gross salary. From 3000USD you will get around 2100USD (7800PLN). Your family will be insured for free from your insurance. Insulin sponsored by the insurer is very cheap:

blog.naszacukrzyca.pl/?p=5572

As ozil8080 summarized:

When i calculated monthly expenses, it looked like there was a 2000 pln for rent + 500 for utilities+ 800*2 for food + some money for cinema + sports, ended up with around 5000 per month for 2 people to live in a normal life.

polishforums.com/work-43/storage-admin-years-experience-field-salary-poland-72717/#msg1465712

So as you see you will be able to even save around 1/3 of the net salary.

Work / Storage Admin 3 years experience in field IT - salary in Poland [36]

Electricity costs min 60zł per month for 1 person living in studio. For 2 people 150zł is usual. For more and bigger appartments more. But it is possible to save in order to be closer to the lower range. Use gas cooker only, led lights, laptop instead of PC, tv with LED.

Polish scholls are free but books have to buy parents. So it is few hunderts PLN each year plus another few for class trips and other small expenses. Private teaching in Engliah are expensive. Here 14000usd per year is mentioned discoverpl.polacy.co.uk/art,international_schools_in_poland,3927.html

And to your question why 6000 pln gross jobs are advertised to foreigners. They are advertised to everybody. Even jobs for Poles are often in English because knowledge of the language is required. There are also singles who don't have to pay for family and perhaps want to find wife in Poland. Flights to India are expensive, but to Europe not e.g. Spain available from 200 pln return with Ryanair. Buses to Ukraine are same cheap. There are also working wifes.

Work / Questions about moving from UK to Poland - work, taxes, child benefit [30]

The teaching question was out of curiosity as it's something the wife might do, 3000 to 4000 and I would be happy for her although with her perfect english I am sure she will be OK.

And if she isn't native English speaker she will have harder to get well payed job as a teacher. Simply school employing natives can ask for more money.

Work / Working in Warsaw as a Oracle DBA / IT manager - what's the best salary that I can get? [48]

tiny.cc/hays-pdf
tiny.cc/outsourcing-pdf
placeprogramistow.apphb.com

Net is around 70% of gross. Median for database administrator was 7000 PLN gross in Warsaw (2011 Hays). Max 15 000 PLN gross. With the experience and the fact that it's big company you should ask for something between median and max. You can add 10% because salaries increased since 2011. Of course you can ask for whatever, but at least write us here what answer you get :)

Also some companies employ programmers for minimum salary ( 1600 PLN gross ) and the rest pay separately as "Umowa o dzieło" (agreement for a project). In this way taxes can be lowered a lot, but I don't think they would like to do that for a foreigner. But if they were ready to do so, then 13000 PLN net would be much more realistic.

Work / Questions about moving from UK to Poland - work, taxes, child benefit [30]

Harry is right that Polish tax office may decide, that since your wife lives here and children, then here is your living center, so you should pay taxes here. But maybe you can simply not inform anybody about you living in Poland. Don't register here, don't open Polish bank account. Then nobody will even think to chase you for taxes, especially that you pay them in UK.

You shouldn't move too far away from an airport, otherwise it will be very tiring to travel regularly.

The plan is for me to move full time to Poland although i assume until i can speak a good level of Polish my possible job options would be very limited?

IMHO If you don't have a good job offer from Poland and a lot of savings from abroad, then it has no economic sense to move to Poland.

We will have no major housing costs as we will be staying with her family to start with and will be converting empty property on their land.

At least don't stay in the same apartment with them. You now what you're risking by living with your in-laws?

With regards to health provsion can i apply via a E106 to get them covered in Poland? I assume i would carry on using the EHIC card until i moved over full time.

I would be surprised if your wife unregistered from UK and registered as resident of Poland could be covered by your British health insurance. Moreover EHIC is for travel only and covers only sudden problems. I think you won't be able to do regular checkup with it. Polish insurance for unemployed is 350zł/month currently:

nfz.gov.pl/new/index.php?katnr=2&dzialnr=1&artnr=1443

People searching for job are insured for free by job center.

Study / Where to study in Poland? Wroclaw University, Uniwersytet Gdanski or Lazarski? [9]

Yes, but 2h away from Wrocław are high mountains. I think Śnieżka peak is the highest around there - 1603m
pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%9Anie%C5%BCka
So it's perfect destination for weekend trips.

Work / Moving Wroclaw/ Salary negotiations as a senior research engineer with PHD [23]

40000 eur = 173000 pln so it's nearly 15000 pln monthly gross which I mentioned as maximum available for most of people. It's 14400 pln gross monthly or 10000 pln net with current exchange rate. Meaning that you couldn't get better deal in Poland as a scientist/engineer. And if they pay for apartment then you can live great in Poland for that money. Only major expense would be English school for your kid if you don't want him to attend free Polish school. Wrocław is also one of the best cities in Poland to live and prices as you could see in numbeo.com are much lower than in Finland.

Find few Indians in this forum and send them private message with the same question (you have to register for that).
Start search here, but it's hard to tell which of them live in Poland, so better write to those who wrote many posts here:
