Genealogy / I love Asiatic influences in Polish peoples' faces [59]

Both you and the troll you quote have obviously never been to this part of the world.

Wow just wow

WHO is the combative know-it-all trollhere? Nice uncalled for attacks, dude. Neither the stubborn subscribers to Tartar influence theory nor myself have said any name calling. Congrats on being first. And one has to wonder why actual polish born Poles living in Poland don't post here often. Only the curious, the ex-pats and the "I live here so I am POLISH expert types. My fiance humors me, he calls it the trolly political site. He wouldn't be caught dead here.

You take two different views A) One thinking there is tartar influence everywhere and B) another , myself, saying a tilted or slanted eye shape is not unique nor automatic reason to call a look asian.; roll them to one; then sling insults. NIIIICE! Bravo!

I am surprised you didn't kibitz how dorked up my paragraph was because the insert function disaster and infer that would be reason to assume my age, education, experiences and exposures to other cultures. Or was that coming? Wanna correct my NICKNAME next? It has a history and it IS my nickname despite being female.

People like you are what make these type of forums stagnant and unpleasant because you are busy name calling, being rude and in the meanwhile not imparting ANY HELPFUL INFORMATION/MEDIA/HISTORY

You are correct I have NOT been to Poland. Yet.
I have only been in the general area of Europe, to be fair. I have stayed with family in the Czech Republic and Germany during my growing up years and speak with them often. Skype via video often. Exchange thoughts, photos and questions often.

But YOU have no right to say you know what is in my head or what my following comments might have been.
I was NOT even close to saying the whole region, much less country looks like a mere 22 people or for that matter a half dozen unrelated friends.

My point was that my fiancee's very old lineage (registered) did NOT look at all asian just because they have almond eyes. I DID not say his family has slanted eyes, though one of his BBF's does. I said almond shape with high cheeks, which one could take as slanted if they have not seen a lot of ethnic types.

My now deceased MIL had a tilt to her eyes, her fathers mother who was of tarter descent had very slanted. She as Russian immigrant. Her parents were Russian. Their Parents were Russian

Palpebral slant is a SEPARATE PHYSICAL FEATURE from epicanthal fold BTW; FYI. Look it up... anti-mongoloid palpebral slant

But maybe you could point out nicely and go source it to be more expert on how highly unlikely secret mongul blood would stay viable when breeding back to the original genotype for the past the past 5 centuries after all that was invading stuff was put to rest (unless they were already admittedly Tarters who made great sauce to go on raw meat...right?)

Or that areas most effected by the Monguls were Southern areas like Silesia? Krakow? ****disclaimer.. like hearing history, knows bits and bobs, but have not researched Polish History . My roots are in Bohemia*

Genealogy / I love Asiatic influences in Polish peoples' faces [59]

My fiance's family in Bialystok have high cheekbones and a tilt to almond eye shape but is does not look at asiatic at all to me. All are pale, blonde with eyes are deep set and large and blue for 3 generations I have seen. Honey almost looks like a Roman bust.. and different from every other member of his family looks somewhat different from teh rest of his rubber stamp family.

My former Russian MIL had slanted eyes.
I have slanted eyes.. but was it from slanty eyed Bohemian czech side? Or fact I am Blood quantum 1/4 native american?
It takes more that slanty eyes to make a potential mongol

Life / Pączki Day--do Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme count? [39]

Not really heard it as Paczki day . But Dunkin Donuts is more about cake donuts..are not Polish donuts more like Krispy Kreme , not commercial as?

My Bohemian Catholic grandparents had stronger traditions about food that I adhere casually to, though. And gobbling down a kind of donut before Lent was part of that. And weird 'blessed' Easter cheesecake that my (ex) Russian In laws also made ( I wish I was not so ham-handed making Baba's pelmini..yum).

In later days I usually have fresh made type pastries from local Mexican bakery for jelly donuts and conchas.
Here in podunk the nearest bakery of any sort for 40 miles is in grocery store. I got a box of Krispy Creme.
This week I made & froze tons of pierogi with potatoes /onions or mushrooms/spices to eat for my light fasting until Palm Sunday. I have fish for some of the weeks and Fridays.

Life / Do Poles have a problem understanding American English? [76]

I don't think so if they understand English at all. Thicker accents of extreme SE/NE might stump them, but they stump native English speakers ^_^

Honey felt so awkward when he thought he was speaking clear english and could not order from McDonalds. I had to translate from English to Southernese Podunk dialect. Poor man just wanted French fries and a Coke. But I pointed out he was fine in MI.

Rown har, in rulftun (Rutherfordton) you pool up a char and flip yor har back n gava purtay smi'

^_^ (I won't miss it when I return to AZ)

Love / Are Polish mothers-in-law monsters? [91]

Ugh..My mom is a pain but different way..uber dependent . Not resentful or disapproving though.
But my fiancé's mother is going to be a pain for some years to come.

I am still trying to defuse it best as possible. Hunny is already the "lucky winna" of being oldest and only male whom his parent spin all their projected lost dreams on . She is somewhat neurotic..in a for real way. Been 'delicate' for some years.

To make it tougher, she does have valid concerns; even if they do not apply. But a terrible way of approaching it! She has made him quite angry and he is vowing never to speak to them again if it is that way when he comes to States for good next year (may com sooner than planned for other things).

I have been liked and admired by most of my exes parents. Though my Russian MIL and me had a rocky start first 2 years of the 15 years I knew her (she ended up the ONLY person in that family I came away liking barring my own children of course).

But some circumstance make this hard...specially when they are type of parent where everything their child does is are reflection on them..

So he had went from possibly to certainty in plan to marry a American-Divorcee (I can remarry in the Church)- with handicapped child-who is Older. What is wrong with him ..what has she done wrong! LOL

If I was catty I could give her the answer... not quite fair but true. LOL.
Oh ..dunno..maybe it all came to this because long ago you was lazy mum who slept in til noon (she blames her mom for not coming by as she was wont to..lol) so your hungry 2 yr old became a statistic when he ate some raw eggs? He almost died, stunted his growth and has asthma and compromised immune system?

then after you had your 'nervous breakdown 'you had your next child watched by him as soon as they were walking...and the next. So he has been the secondary caregiver of his siblings since age 7 til adulthood? (dad works far afield often ).

So he didn't identify with his peers? At home you are CLOSE to him but also say things about the relationship dynamics that destabilize his comfort in home?

Your potshots about what was wrong with him at family parties stuck in their eyes for his life? the family infighting crushes his sensitive soul and he cant fit in at parties since he does not and cannot drink... period...ever? Yet is expected to at EVERY gathering? and gets heckled for refusal?

Why ..I can't Iiiii_MA_GIIINE Why he may not fit the cookie cutter perfect-son-of-good family shape.....

She loves him..to DEATH. She is blinded to what a great guy he has turned out to be in his own right without fitting in certain ideals.

I'd never be so cruel as to rub the previous statement in her face.. but I think it every time he is distressed because she is making major scene, using every tool of emotional blackmail and even threatening to "have a relapse" so to speak. While he was away from home more than a week first time ever the 9 yr old freaked and was overheard by teacher talking about suicide preferable to living another week at home 0_) ( that caused some embarrassment and a stir to be sure)

And this person will be my MIL in no less than 320 days... I am kinda glad I don't speak polish.

The BEST things she has said so far...lol.. is that I am probably got something wrong and must be somewhat childish to have any interests with him.

Okay ..lol .. I can wear that coat. Though I raise my kids, pay my bills, never got fired, only quit one job ever. I'm not in debt. How much more "grown up " do I need to be >_<

Other speculation has brought flat out weird illogical theories.

Though Old World families expect more of sons...I don't think it is so much a Polish thing as a Mum in law thing

Life / Bad Polish mothers [35]

Those stories are becoming more common here in the states, too (though I will give us a percentile advantage of our huge size.. still bad and too frequent). Also last 2 years has seen rise in darwinism amongst gun owners giving toddlers free access to their training rifles and somehow being surprised that something bad happened.

Well they knew better? huh..? You can't leave a 5 year old alone in bathtub but you do with a loaded gun? 0_0
What planet did they learn about child rearing? I was taught that you never leave children truly alone for long because they are (my words) untrustworthy little scumbags....

I believe we hear of it more and more because the entitled, spoiled, newer generations are less equipped to handle the daily sacrifices that are demanded in the responsibility of raising a child.

All the fun and spoiling and benefits while pregnant become a JOB when baby arrives (though young babies are actually sooo easy to care for... they do require time. Party days are done)

And the draconian way that child support is set in most countries makes it hard for a female who is 'usually' the one with less earning power, being able to survive paying support out. Heck they squeeze the guys who are trying hard and still reward the deadbeats with good money...and good lawyers( also in the worse case...the child support they count on for themselves as income they deserve and not even think of its true purpose) . It makes these nutbag girls less willing to just give the child up to the father's family. Specially since even today there is stigma for being the mom that gave up the kids.. where it is almost expected of the males.

But I don't think it is necessarily limited to POLISH mothers at all

USA, Canada / Poles in America: How do you pronounce your Polish surname? [128]

Ugh I am still softmouthing my future surname...least I have a year to get it right before the altar. I don't want him to have to Anglo-fy his name.

But I keep saying it bohemian style emphasizing a roll in the r. The brz kills me in many words. Haven't figured a good phonetic spelling to help train me.

Language / Is Polish amongst the best-sounding languages in the world? [123]

Well...I am biased but as I have mentioned I love the sound of it when my Fiance' (soon my Mister- better learn to say my last name right!) is speaking and it's accent on his English.

It sounds so close yet different from the style of "Bohemian" my family spoke. They never identified themselves as "Czech" .
I grew up hearing Spanish, Portuguese, a lot as well with Cherokee, German and Welsh smattered. I think my mom's dad was only person with no accent.

Hungarian; it's such a mystery to me - I love the way it sounds!

I do agree that my Hungarian friends sound pretty too when they do quick info chats in Teamspeak

Anything about 'matriarchal fuktards'?

So some useless rhetoric? Um I thought they were already covered under the blanket of feminazis? Who also profess charming "deserve whats coming to them" attitudes, but have yet to affect the number of men coming in the morgue by a woman's hand ever even doubling the opposite. What a beautiful world it would be if we could throw in a inescapable crevasse, all the feminazis and the sick bastards that love that single researcher who "proves" women are just as fault as men as if that excuses or justifies the fact that men kill women 3-1. yeah , that's right.

On average, more than three women and one man are murdered by their intimate partners in this country every day. In 2000, 1,247 women were killed by an intimate partner. The same year, 440 men were killed by an intimate partner. Intimate partner homicides accounted for 30% of the murders of women and 5% percent of the murders of men.

(Bureau of Justice Statistics Crime Data Brief, Intimate Partner Violence, 1993-2001, February 2003. Bureau of Justice Statistics, Intimate Partner Violence in the U.S. 1993-2004, 2006.)

The Feibert Studies prove you wrong

ME wrong? Um hooray for Dr Fiebert and Male abusers of partners everywhere? because I almost had that law requiring castration go through...! Whew!

Seriously I don't know what importance of me that requires proof against that Feibert provides. DV I lived it, I learned it, and I vote it ever since. But I was pulling my paraphrased casual statements form data that is collected simply for the statistics raw.

And dude, I know nothing about you but what you present. I suspect by your love for that crappy quack, that you are divorced at least once...but women stay with worse. It is presumptive assessment that you are approving of selective pieces of his data and the association he represents. But maybe IRL you just argue devils' advocate and are a normal stand up guy on the conservative side. and that you think the reversed negative hatemongers society for men is as bad as feminazi associations. If you have first hand, if your mother, daughter, wife by former , cousin or sister has been abused by their spouse and they deserved what they got... well please feel free to share. I will go by what you present until then.

Seriously; my having a very personal bias in the subject of DV in no way invalidates my opinion that DV is nothing to do with feminism and can't change the actual crime data that men are aggressors more often than not. Who cares what women group research does or doesn't with bias.

I guess some can be happy with the clever one-of -a kind (which is why he is only major source that can be found that heavily substantiates the claim of "men's" groups looking to downplay DV as it has barely gotten action) junk science report based mostly on self reporting (yet no legal reports data entered into the correlations) and in the specific agenda of men from first data collected. with the focus for lobbying ESPECIALLY for the National Coalition for MEN (formerly National Coalition for FREE Men..backlash from the 60 started in late 70s. aka: ANTI feminist *given most credence by "father's rights activists" -you add that A word and its bound to be a bad thing no matter agenda or gender) ).. yeah real Unbiased ..NOT

Like I would give credence to some draft dodging acid dropper from liberal NY that moved to even more liberal CA studying psychology for the WHOLE war period (how convenient) with "downtrodden men" as his focus since he was with a chip on his shoulder since the 60s about how women don't have to stand for the draft. Um ..in his time period women were not making any foking laws so he needed to direct his ire elsewhere! I would lay money that some unshaved militant took his virginity and spurned him in college to make him so bitter, LOL (cant you guys find anyone less biased... with more factual data ? not likely and still support the theory of women being the major perps or instigators of DV. Sure, bad women are out there... and I do think DV shelters need to relocate and protect men who are abused by their partner of any gender too.)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_violence_in_the_United_States

Even the scum hero Fiebert shows numbers not that flattering. 38% of the percent that are extreme. So 62% of the 'seriously injured" are WOMEN

Not that those who wish to sit in some sort of bubble of "she asked for it" care for any info.

But those who wonder... there are more studies, most confirm that men are the assailants more often with less provocation, some sre biased -some not. But stats from 3 entities collecting realtime data versus one biased one

If legal protection from domestic violence was truly inseparable from marching with man bashing gorillas in dresses, then let me stand in line for my pitchfork and torch please. Thank God, Bob, the devil and dykes that the exceptions in men that buy into that mealy knuckle dragger societies, like Zim seems to want to do, are not the rule.

I am quite content with the protection skewed to women. When the serious hospitalization and death rate (can't say with those stats that wonderful Mr Fiebert avoids, is hiding behind shame of the reporting person! faking death during autopsy is pretty tough!) by partner assault reaches 50/50....then I'll be first to vote for adjustments in DV law. this is the second sickest conversation subject I've seen on PF

::And if that makes me a feminist then so be it::

look at the following

That video is outright garbage and to use it as anything reliable is to implicate that you are trying to encompass more than just the feminist /femi-nazis in your complaints.

That you are even hinting to claim that DV is somehow entirely fault of crazy feminists? WTF? 0_O Dude you are not talking even apples & oranges.. you are talking apples & flounders

You CAN"T be serious!

A skewed study proves very little for the point (and varies from original subject f thread some)... what exactly is your point anymore? Domestic violence has nothing to do with feminism except that control freak patriarchal fuktards who don't want to be caught and punished, have such a stick up their dick about nasty ass femi-nazis they meet breaking their balls; that they take it out twice as hard on the poor specially selected weaker prey unlucky enough to be in their path and blame it on feminism. Um ..not gonna buy it. Don't see the arseholes duking it out with some scary parade marcher in Seattle.

Women are emotional in general, and yes we can be the worst nags in world during arguments because normally non-physical pressure is all we can bring to bear if push comes to shove, even if she is the one temperamental enough to wanna throw a punch at his head.

Women do not resort to physical violence to make their point in even a iota as close to the same percentage as men. Even in our own defense are less likely to respond with physical violence. It is not in our hardwiring and very rarely taught to us as girls.

You don't know WAT THE FOK you are talking about! You have never lived it, obviously never knew anyone close who did never had it in your family or your tune would be modified. I have a ex that drowned me (I was under 15 min-took 4 hours for full revival) and lived, That knocked two of my teeth out ,,, still breathing. No religious position on divorce was keeping me there.. I was simply terrified of him. I laugh when I hear that rhetoric in a feminists or anti-establishment speakers mouth. Never thought to fight for years. He stalked me 3 years and I married him just before I could jet to family in Brasil, as he had a gun in his pocket to "kill himself" if I didn't (2 years before first stalker law in Cali).

Was not the person I am today who would just as soon shoot someone as not.

DV is about control , not just "being mad". The person with greater credibility, physical prowess, or financial control (all normally a males prerogative) is usually the more successful aggressor. Men... males: with control issues or outright psychotic temper are still the main perpetrators.

Wanna talk all the biology? Well then, don't forget, men have the higher adrenaline and testosterone to allow more extreme and irrational response to unpleasing situations and higher flight or fight response wishing to attack aggressively.... and they are the "do-ers". Which is why you have some weighty numbers climbing in Gay/Lesbian couples as they get a support system that is friendly to them enough to report violence. It is gays higher than lesbians that are reporting the abuse patterns... oh because the equation has .? MEN.

Domestic violence is not something simply reported more, though it has always been in our populations, but it is more prevalent in modern society with it's anonymity.

I don't support "equalization' I do support equal opportunity. Especially when you talk sports. Fact is the genders have physical differences. If a woman wants to compete in a traditional male sport like collegiate wrestling , she has to shut up if her crotch is grabbed (and women need to wear cup in rough sorts too BTW) or she can't met certain requirements because boobage/weakness. I competed in discus and shotput because my unusual upper body strength. When I was racing I competed against men half my age and beat their arses with exception of the top 5-10. But that doenst make me some kind of militant "feminist". > : ( As atheletic as I was, I still enjoyed cooking, entertaining, going to Balls, wearing nice things that enhance my cleavage instead of sport apparel that binds it. If I am not working a hard schedule, I enjoy giving my guy rub downs, massaging his feet to erase tension and fatigue (and raise libido >_<), feed him things that will make him live longer.

I firkin HATED the whiners in the army that didn't wanna carry their own **** and slowed down the rest of us. In the field, women already gave to be accomodated to extra hygiene privledges. I was shamed in Kuwait when so many got pregnant on purpose to get out of their obligation. I myself shamefully used the gender card to avoid taking that ****** untested drug for possible bio protection and the veterinarian grade anthrax shots.

I am not a supporter of feminist agendas or its movement. I do not connect them with any true equality or true suffrage. They want to be more equal and also force ALL women to take their style. Hell no thanks. But to even suggest that DV is somehow caused by femi-nazis and would just disappear if a sudden shift to traditional roles was established overnight? this is a terrible disservice for every victim that begged for help and ended up dead later.

Despite the Monster X, I like men, I am a traditionalist. I like pampering my guy, keeping things running smooth, looking attractive within my natural resources. I don't mind being the" shadow behind the throne". But I fully expect that in exchange for that very traditional treatment of him... same goes for me. He wants that doting partner a la 1950, he has to give me the 1950 housewife perks. If I am breadwinner or splitting the work... he can make his own damn sammich when I come home tired after grave shift! and if he wants to stay at home I better have that sammich waiting on my plate, the house in good condition, kids fed, errands done. So that we can have our good time both well rested .

Sorry Zimmy, you are dead wrong on your last point. The percentage of Ads or shows that show a hapless male losing against a superior female equal are like a drop in the ocean. More often they are victim to "uberkids".

With exception of cable channel late night occasional plugs; I see more ads about diet pills for dogs that things saying:
"Hey dude...how about that ugly paunch you picked up over the years? Johnny Praig weight loss gyms can HELP you get that summer body you always dreamed of!"

"Did you order your balls salty with cheese? No? Use Winter's Morn male freshing product for those days that ape rotting in sun smell is not going to cut it"

"Seeping prostate? Wear Bob's sanitary pads for that shower fresh feel"
"Daaad... I cant get this condom on right!## Well son, that is because you are undersize...you need to use Trojan Juniors....prevents slippage!## THANKS Dad!" Trojan Juniors-for when 4 inches is the best you can bring up"

Oh and lets not forget balding... Yes previous generations of women were raised to expect your man will likely lose his hair by the time he is 50. But fok man.. at 20?It is not beautiful ..it is simply accepted.

And man boobs... If women have to upsize theirs... men should be pressured to remove those!
And men do not age better than women.. the standards just haven't punished them yet.
Mouth lines, hounds frown and crows feet was manly... yeah if you work outdoors all day farming.. otherwise you are looking like an old hack dude!

Most mainstream ads still concentrate on getting a women regardless of height into: NOT plus size 28-31 waist yet still keep a D cup-or add one. We have to smell like fokin flowers, be hairless as nine yr olds except thick manes on top of our heads, We have to have straight sparkling teeth, bright expressions, 4in or less hip to waist ratio, small pretty feet. There is now even industry of plastic ...<_< koochi surgery!! Cuz that has to look like a 9 year olds as well. The thin movement moving away from telling men to like curves that started with feminist movements hailed twiggy and despised icons of earlier era. Paris runway has become the ideal (just like Barbie- they have tall deformed bodies to make the clothes look good...)

We still have to give good service for low pay both in relationships and employment.

*steps off soapbox* end rant...still

I accept that some advertising uses anti-male humour to flatter female consumers. But the fact that they can do this with credibility surely highlights the bigger point, which is that men still oppress women. In contrast, there is a huge amount of advertising that tries to make women feel insecure about their bodies if they don't look a certain way, or about their skills as wives or mothers.

Barefoot , pregnant and in the kitchen is luxurious (with optional nausea) : )

Femi-Nazis are as discriminating as any sexist, sadly they pick on their own gender as well.
They take credit for EVERY positive move done for women, regardless of what agency instigated it but weasel out of blame for any backlash, bad behaviors or downright draconian.

So a Professional Feminist.. is that good pay? I think I could pretend EVERY man is like my monster X enough to get some foamy spittle worked up. I will not pierce my face, become foul or fat if that is required though. Not gonna wear 40 # glasses and If I get mustache it is not gonna stay

BTW: That comedian isn't the best example... his manner of presenting some battles in the war of the sexes SUCKS. He comes off with a bitter tone more than humor, like disguising attacks as jokes.

USA, Canada / Anglo-mangling of Polish surnames in the US/Canada [22]

Aww com'on. Not only anglo countries are guilty; to be fair it would be better titled "mangling ethnic names by new countries". And it is not always caused by Anglophonic spellings.

Ellis Island you had not so cream-of-the-crop(not intelligista) trying to mark "X" on the what was hopefully the correct spelling of their name was dictated by generally educated english speaking person (but possibly not native English themself).

Sometimes your ancestor may had purposely anglized his name to fit in his new home, yet avoid losing it totally by transliterates like "Mr Brown" for "Moreno".

And before we were all numbered and scanned-changing name was simple.

My father changed his name in the Army in 1941. His given name was Ruby and he changed it to Richard purposely.
The Army mispelled my grandfathers middle name of Anselm to Ancil and it ened up in all ID afterwards making his middle name spelled different first time in 6 generations.

My one family had such competition for inheritance that each branch purposely changed the spelling from 3 full brothers so you knew WHICH son they came from ( Pruitt-Pruwett-Prewitt with variances in "t"s)

My Maternal side went traceably though countries from (Prague)Baginski>Bagneski>(France)Bagnes>(Portugal then Spain) Baggones which became in (in Brasil before split when some stayed in Mexico) branch 1Bageus/Bagne 2Basqez 3Borgues then the US the youngest 6 are Borquez (pronounced "bor kay") except oldest son's family who are Bagne. My family was easy to trace because the size and peculiar first names.

However my own birthname was changed from Gwynfyddyr for anglo-mangling (my mother couldn't say it nor my middle), then at 16 I changed it again to my nickname, a shorter name that sounded like my grgrandmothers Cherokee name as bonus. I disliked the anglized version since it didn't have the same meaning and I was afraid to change it back since my paycheck had simple Guinefer mispelled often as well or only my common nickname used.

I mean honestly..what would my name have become in Polish? or Finnish?
as for me..as a non native english speaking person with an impediment..I'm just glad I can almost say Dobrzynski more Polish now

(hunny said I was saying it like czech -and definitely better than how our other non-Polish friends say it..lol.

Not that the Polish Laws would apply to this site or most of what is said here, since as reminded last THREE times this subject came up since I joined in 2012..... this forum is based out of US ...not Poland.

it would be hard to even make the site give up who is from what country in actuality.

BTW : that comes off as a juvenile and childish arguement that only appears to be skirting inability to give an answer..

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

Some >redacted< men still rather adamantly maintain their 'traditional' or 'cliched' sense of chivalry.

I don't think it's nationality I think it's simple upbringing and hardships that make a man

Never dated a Brit..

The ones I met...? well they were fun to drink with but I prolly would stab one (of the guys I did meet- who were military if that makes dif) to his death in the temple with a spork if he were the man I was with. And one really fussy prissy black guy my aunt dated once was London born. He would have got a spork to the brain too.

And now that I don't drink I'd have even less patience with that sort of shennanigans.

With 2 exceptions, the half doz Polish I have known also drank. They got tempersome instead of buffoonish. Their sober selves were conservative and traditional workaholics that voted left. Only have dated a American born mixie and my pure native fiance (who is one of the non drinkers)

I would venture to say in a general sifting thru; guys from "non westernized" upbringing will appeal more to a traditional kind of "good girl". Normally have the right amount of chauvinsim/maniliness and chivalry, ambition and work ethic. The "defined" roles. The traditional expectations.

History / How different would WW2 turned out if Poland accepted Hitler's offer [219]

Doesn't it depend on if Poland would be kept and "rehabilitated " like West Germany or still been given up to Stalin along with E Germany?

Certainly would be a few less Jewish saved but the various resistance movements would have still been there. But it would have been no less bombed and sacked.

In option A: it would have had its infrastructure rebuilt with Marshall plan, nazi sympathies bred out, currency changed, heavy industry halted (until population deemed clean to be allowed technology so til mid 1950s? when US forced Britain and france to allow recovery to progress forward?), and total plundering of its intellectual properties of the time in the "reparation" act.

In option B: very bad ? since as former Nazis, the Commies would hate you worse than as just plain Polish and likely annihlate even more of the population than it did in retaliation?

Of course there is that possibility that Poland may have tipped the scales, made the takeover of Europe swifter before the US government could get it's VERY reluctant people to become heavier involved by declaring War? And US would likely had only concentrated on Japan as long as no move was made against it from the Nazi regime.

Winner make the deals and write the history.

IEDIT: Good point Vlad... IF Poland had such an offer since Hitler would have Germanized it eventually. Didn't he have the notion Poles in general as beasts to exterminate (though just as Aryan in appearance maybe even more so in the % of population)?

Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [172]

Aww..I like circus peanuts..but they are NOT marshmallows. And compared to fine chocolates or common EU chocolates..Hershey's shall not pass.

Butter brickle is more "american". Specially pecan or peanut. Or licorices. Reeces cups. bitOhoney. Sweet cornbread mix? Divinity. Fudge. moon Pies. Twinkies. Nothing too perishable or carbonated would pass muster for flight. Salsa. Jalepeno Lollipop.

Iconic still avaialble toys:
Tonka trucks(real ones) and green army men. Slinky. Hula hoop.Etch A sketch. Lincoln logs. Shrinky dinks.
Maybe a iconic board game like Trouble, Monopoly. Nerf stuff-football-dart board-etc.

Item hard to find by web shop.
Easter Egg coloring kit.
Maybe traditional Trinkets from your local indian tribe? esp Turqouise jewlery.. pretty beaded choker or hair accessories. Coonskin cap. Turkey Feathers;
Coins? maybe a 50 states set of quarters. Shoes that are skates(my kids and I all have pairs).
A mountain board (large all terrain skateboard?) or Torx scooter? An American Football -for the kick of it. Or other sport.
Are they musically inclined? A toy/youth banjo? (even TRU carries such thing in certain regions). Marachas. Kazoo. Autoharp or dulcimer. Toy youth versions stay in the price range you mentioned.

A teen girl might like something displayable on a shelf or apparel like Tshirt from Abercrombie, or other iconic brand store. Mickey mouse tshirt. Or something tasteful and iconic from Hot Topic/Spencers (ie I have Flinstone "Pebble Yell Tour" babydoll T ). A retro mood ring.

Teen guy might like something edgy like one of our lovely large insects (scorpion-tarantulas-ect) in plexiglass paperweight. Poland barely has any poisonous anything.

Thats all I can think of in unique.Kids are funny sometimes...
Other than namesakes and astrology ; My older son collected Ikea horses and Rubber Duckies (and had one chosen himself Nutcraker Barbie Christie he kept on shelf.. <_<) # My daughter liked ballerina animals, odd monsters /aliens

My youngest Hot wheels and anything with a chicken on it.

USA, Canada / Grace Pianka case - Injustice to Polish Citizen [66]

AZ justice should have been involved back THEN.

In the very least making sure she had a good translator. If she had been an illegal...? (Even who had lived here for years and had a good working knowledge of english? ) ; she still would have had translators and help ( case in ..hmm I think 1995? Mexican illegal MURDERED his pregnant local girlfriend-was caught RED HANDED and still took 2 years to send to jail because of activists. He was the city one. There was one in Flag and one in Tuscon almost in month of each other).

mean to say but true.. she would have had EVERY assistance had she been "disadvantaged" sleazy low life in an "official" minority color . : (

Law / Civil law court case in Poland - can a witness be forced to attend? [10]

I almost answered earlier ... for advice: It is best to simply contact whoever sent subpoena. Better to be safe than sorry.

In US it really does not matter if Civil or Criminal (Civil includes Family Law and TORT).
What matters is if it is legal summons and not just a notice for witness. Most civil cases do not send out subpoenas, only the witness notices. Jurors are summoned for full trials also. Here, if it is a subpoena? You are legally obligated.

There are ways to bow out. You can say -politely- you will not testify if you appear. Most attorneys won't want you if that is the case and it is as unimportant as you make it to be.

Legal excuses here from appearance incl poor transportation availability(cant pay your bus& taxi if they do not service area)-commutes over 500miles (tho they may offer to pay) and poor health (requires physician statement). You can ask on various reasons to simply provide a notorized affidavit and unless there is some special reason for your being there , that near always suffices.

Skipping can earn you- free dogwalk to court via baliff escort .Fines +/or jail time for contempt. Or worse...a bench warrant for the contempt that can snag you unawares years after the fact.

Plus -rarely- if your testimony is very close in to the event...a ***** summoner may very well just make you another defendant.
then you or a represntative will have to appear in order to insure a default against you doesn't happen.

I'm sure Poland probably has similar ways "out"

Source: ME. Paralegal assistant in Sonoma Co, CA, USA 90-93 I don't think there has been any sweeping change in that aspect of the law since I was familiar with it.

PS: the Barrister than came into our practice (I love that .'barrister" so dignified and trustworthy sounding >_<) didn't seem to comment on that aspect being unusual so I would have assumed it the same in UK.

Genealogy / Are Silesians people German/Germanic? [178]

The first signs of genus Homo in Silesia date to between 230,000 and 100,000 years ago. The Silesian region between the upper Vistula and upper Oder was the northern extreme of the human penetration at the time of the last glaciation. The anatomically-modern human is estimated to have arrived in Silesia about 35,000 years ago.[1] Subsequently, Silesia was inhabited by people who belonged to changing archaeological cultures in the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, and the ethnic identity of whose cannot currently be determined. The civilization of Old Europe undoubtedly included Silesia. In the late Bronze Age, the Lusatian culture (in the past, variously speculated to be either 'pre-Germanic', Proto-Slavic, Thracian, Karpo-Dacian or Illyrian) covered Silesia. Later, the Scythians and Celts (the tribes of Boii, Cotini and Osi[2]) are known to have played a role within the Silesian territory. Still later Germanic tribes migrated to Silesia, possibly from Northern Germany or Scandinavia.

Most likely...meaning they assume it but have no concrete data for the times for germanic tribes in document.

Not sure what you are trying to aim at ... it is all easily searchable asn some is part of big historical events in the region.

But it seems ethnically Silesia was originally informally cut small pieces and diverse. Not heavily german, even had celts. When it became formally "Silesia" the bulk was under control from Czech(Morovian-Bohemian) before passing to the Polish in dynasty era.

The history shows Germanic tribes were hovering and immigrating through the east part before settling further south and were not a heavy portion of population until a large influx of Walloons in 12th century and the 13th century had open invitation for settlers from Germany. Then they slowly displaced the local population by the numbers. But all and all it looks like it was all polish in upper and split german/czech in lower for more than a single century. Works by Jan Potocki could help you with the tribes/ethnicities documents in first century.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

Ah.
The square faced, stockier Poles always make me think of Germans or my own family. Or slavic jews.

tumblr.com/tagged/polish%20history =image selections

I always thought of Polish in a general ethnic look from historical artwork or even Photos from before 1950. Long rectangle or oval faces, high hairlines, wide foreheads, prominent often bulbous noses, sharp high cheekbones, light pinkish complexion tones, defined small chins. Slender medium builds and not very tall. Excepting fat old generals with drinkers ruddy cheek and red noses. Girls with no curves. Lots of blondes. And sportin mustaches ..lol.

But my lack of knowledge of modern Poland is one of reasons I am here.

My particular guy has more golden hue, rather full mouth and a roman nose. Though I think he looks similar to that rapper (who has the fuller weight and rougher complexion of men in his age group of any ethnicity) I don't really think he looks "Polish".

Honey is on the slight side of slender as well a gingerbeard. Redhead is not the first thing in my mind when I think Polak. He doesn't look as "Polish" as his sisters or parents. If he was dark he'd look more like a movie stereotype Transylvannian, than my own idea of a Polak.

USA, Canada / Grace Pianka case - Injustice to Polish Citizen [66]

It was a strangely handled case...
I've sat in cases that the bloody entrails still steamed on the hands (yes literally) and had more trouble convicting.
I didn't sit the box in that one though. She also was picked at for her looks in a couple of pieces.
Most the "damning" evidence came mere fact of the husband's affair (for major motive) and statements from a neighbor who changed his tale and even got mad at the atty (or was it a journalist? It made the rounds) and said some smart ass thing like "if I was badgered that day like now I prolly just said what they wanted to make them leave me the hell alone!" Yet his testimony pegged her leaving the crime at the given required time of event. He came off a major dick...

It had weird reporting from what can remember (was in last stage of my divorce then and traveling from home, my mom's to WA til I moved completely back to AZ in 2007). I remember bits and bobs the "witness" who was hostile and the mistress fled the state.

I remember she wasn't a full citizen (they made a big deal about it in WRONG way) nor did she have anyone make sure her first questions were made really clear in her native language (ACLU is only fer fokin illegals and sleazy gangbangers that moved in from Oakland : ( )

That is about the same time period that Aussie family was being deported with thier Visas revoked -for no wrong doing- after living here like 22 years and half the kids citizens?

Regardless of her possible guilt I think her rights to a fair trial were violated

Travel / Storks - the Symbol of Poland [59]

seemed so... the home across from the Weiss family farm outside Nuremberg had a nest. Everyone seemed thrilled.
My German was juvenile at best in that time. The international language of food is why I wanted to stay. YUM!
It was big and empty when we visited again a few years later in winter. Looked like a roc nest!

My guy said it was fortuitous dream. My dream self was horrified...LAWL. Boy if it means luck I'm gonna strike the lottery soon >_<

Those ones pictures look so elegant

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Merged: POLL: Would you support legislature in Poland regarding less restrictive ownership?

Many questions asked here would be better served in a poll... and less room for flame wars to kindle. So I shall be the first to attempt ^_^

I had a little trouble at first getting enough questions for fair data...but I think I covered it all.
And anyone can see the percentages as they adjust each new person. And being anonymous it will eventually have more answers.
I think I might post it on the polish website too..when I am motivated enough to get it worded it in Polish.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

I am sure Canada has done something to **** off the Americans.

<_<
That was a plain..can't think of another word.. stupid .thing to say.

The day the US attacks Canada is the day we have a presidente' por vida and are on our war to becoming Imperialist tyranny.

The average Citizen and even our government rarely thinks of Canada in any way at all. Other than knowing it is there, it is cold and has some french people. First thought is trappers, beavers, maple syrup and hockey.

The Myths of lumberjacks, potsmoking layabouts, people who say "eh" every sentence and unber free4all healthcare.

Even the rare ***** Canadian normally brings no hostility towards Canada but some derogatory comments about French

Really how much more off topic can this get? I am not going to respond after today since it also is derailing the OP question. : ( I see a future close for this thread anyway. OP? I'll make a poll..at poll monkey for you

This Thread should have title changed-I think I will even PM the mods for that.
It should be "Non-native & EXpats who think America shouldn't have gun ownership for every reason under the sun please make blanket statements here___ "
