Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1400]

in general Food surprisely ... no seriously ... anything i feel like rustling up in this heat :)
but at present its mainly snack food (just eaten 4 slices of toast with banana and toffee spread on beats nutella i guess)whilst tackling copious amounts of revision ahead of exams in just over a weeks time - feel like my head will implode from all the information intake but joys of having an exam a day over a 5 day period.

Genealogy / Domanski and Babiacz Ancestry [6]

start with the information you already have ie death, marriage, birth certificate and like most ancestry results you work backwards piecing information together.
If you have this information that is ... join up to many ancestry linked sites and ask about do searches, even tiny information can bring more information (as was my case) what did your grandfather do? What information do you know exactly than just their surnames? As you need more than this to work from!!

PS: OP you posted this thread in wrong place should have gone in the Genelogy threads ;)

Study / "MAGISTER" OR "MASTERS DEGREE" - ARE THEY THE SAME? [75]

wyddo

A BA degree in Poland is known as a Licencjat. In Poland they don't really have BSc degree they have parellel diploma/honours for Engineering in Technical Universities, but a licencjat is used for all courses whether scientific or humanistic -- and the MA which is a Magister is an extension of studies previously undertaken in Poland that can take the studing upto 5 years in total ... so i am told by polish friends :)

Law / Old Polish money banknotes - what's their value today? [415]

bobnis: Are they of any value?I dont think they are .. you might want to see if any takers on the likes of eBay and such other make a pretty funky collage out of them.

I told you here ... maybe die hard collectors on ebay will be interested but other than that or banknote fair thingy's that take place -- they arent worth any real value that what i pointed out above.

Food / BREAD IN POLAND IS DETERIORATING [90]

I tend to buy the toasted bread options.

i have to say i bought this option in Tescos when i was in PL grant you still nowhere near as good as the bread over here in Uk but for toast it is adequate enough :) and you could always buy nutella and spread on it rather than Jam :)

Im gutted as you now have the clubcard available in PL i could have racked up some right points during my time there lolz

Tip - buy and freeze straight away

This is a favourable tip of students as well :)

KFC

yuck i dont even eat those here in UK, nor Mcdee's, BK or pasties ...!

Polish Bread is alright to a point to keep the thread on topic :)

If you get a chance try to see Londynczycy, it has run for two series and is an interesting show, well from my perspective as an English woman facinated with all things Polish!

Got it on DVD just as i have got both series of Czas Honoru which i equally recommend back and is in production for its third series to be shown this September/October time :)

History / The great mistakes of Poland's history? [216]

Apr 25, 10, 17:34 - Thread attached on merging:
Key periods in Poland's history?

Maybe some fruitful people amongst the masses here could give me an indication for a powerpoint presentation im doing in college on Poland ... but what period of events do you regard as key historical periods in Poland as i have two slides to create with this information and briefly talk about when i deliver it.

I need to make sure that i bring it into present day if that helps you give me a few dates and events :)

Many thanks on your help
