I think lack of the Christmas tree in the in his city centre he might find hard to overcome

Interesting. You are most concerned with very public manifestations of particular religious beliefs.
I always thought that making Christmas less of a spectacle would be more... Christian. Don't you find that marketing ones spirituality cheapens it?

Ahh.. Rousseau... we are all slaves to our artificial possessions...
"The first person who, having enclosed a plot of land, took it into his head to say this is mine and found people simple enough to believe him was the true founder of civil society. What crimes, wars, murders, what miseries and horrors would the human race have been spared, had some one pulled up the stakes or filled in the ditch and cried out to his fellow men: "Do not listen to this imposter. You are lost if you forget that the fruits of the earth belong to all and the earth to no one!"

Love / My Polish wife's mom is asking for money [11]

The best retort is to cry poverty as well. Remember, in Poland complaining is an acceptable, even polite (!) thing to do, while saying you're comfortable is equivalent to boasting, and will invite many requests for help.

Such a sad view.. while rest of the civilized world works hard at breaking down racial and social barriers, there are still so many people that consider a mixture of white, brown, black and yellow people living in harmony, the end of the world. No wonder people with the views like the OP are pertified with fear...

There is absolutely no scientific bases to think that white, or any other 'race' is superior to another. Racial superiority was used to justify european imperialism in the past, and it has created an enormous amount of human and social damage. It is scientifically false, morally condemnable, socially unjust and dangerous.

And considering how many good causes there are worthy of supporting, like discrediting religious fanatics everywhere, that getting on the "keep white race pure" bandwagon shows a very limited world view, to say the least.

Food / Smalec - how to make it? [53]

besides spreading it (thinly!) on fresh rye bread, I found many other uses for smalec; cook with it! It makes rice taste better, sauteed greens, cabbage, broccoli sprouts... even scrambled eggs.

Love / Why should I support my partners sister and boyfriend? [23]

I think this is just another example of strong Polish family ties. Poles do tend to help each other within the family, share what they have with less fortunate members, and are much harder to isolate. Even today, when I see a homeless person, I can't help but think that his/her family should be ashamed of themselves.

Another example of this cultural difference is the legal responsibility children have for their elderly parents, virtually unheard of in the US.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Here are some Russian tips on traveling to America that nicely sum up some of the cultural differences. Even though they are for Russians, they seem to apply to Poles as well:

"US etiquette requires that you smile in each and every situation. If you want to travel to America, be prepared to give a smile not only to friends and acquaintances, but also to all passers-by, in shops, to the staff at the hotel, police on the streets, etc.

"US etiquette also forbids lamenting the troubles of life, or sharing your problems with others. Sharing in this country can only be positive emotions - sorrows and frustrations are impermissible. In the US you only complain to acquaintances in the most extreme cases. Serious problems are for close friends and relatives only.

Travel / Where is the best place to snowboard in Poland? [8]

We've been chasing the waves, or snow, traveling at a moments notice for so long, that I have learned a few things. First, of course, those offering the accommodations would like to have the reservations (and the money) way in advance so they'll try to scare you any way they can, but unless you're traveling during Christmas vacation, there are always rooms to be found. Sometimes you'll have to pay more, sometimes even less, but you still get a better buy seeing the place first. In a pinch, you'd be surprised how many private persons will offer accommodations at their own places; we have slept at a store clerk's house, once at a waitresses' apartment. Met some great people along the way. In the end, the most important is what you went there for - virgin powder or great waves. There were few times when we had to travel further away from the crowds, but still, I would not trade those experiences for ideal accommodations with no snow.

Travel / Where is the best place to snowboard in Poland? [8]

One suggestion would be not to plan the snowboarding or skiing trip until the conditions are perfect, and then being able to go at a moment's notice. It's much more nerve wracking, but it turned out great each time me and my family went on the ski trip this way.

Love / Polish women betrayal [38]

I an a medical doctor and have many research publications related to medical genetics.

Why would a medical doctor, a man supposedly well versed in genetics and adaptation, ignore the scientific advantages of diversity?

Life / Agnieszka holland compares life in Poland to 'sniffing farts': [97]

Excellent article. It's heartbreaking that the conformity she mentioned lasts so long after the end of communism.

BTW, I wonder if people that say "if you don't like it, leave" realize that nothing ever would improve if someone didn't grew tired of status quo.

Polish Patriot, as far as I see, you are the one disgracing Poland with your inane comments.

Love / Rejected - Rafal thought I was ugly? [85]

You are probably right. In the shadowy world of the "homeless/alcoholic/criminals" there are usually underground "pads" where they crash, trying to forget their miserable lives in mindnumbing bouts of sex. ;)

Love / Why are Polish girls so confusing? [30]

I think the problem is about picking up their cues and that's what I expect this post to bringing up. They must have such unique cues.

I'm not sure that this will apply to only Polish girls, but the ones I know, especially the pretty ones, just love to flirt. Love to dress up and feel sexy, to be the objects of desire of all men. But that does not include kissing or groping. That's a no no. What I noticed that works, is if a man is a perfect gentelman; attentive, self assured, but nonchallant, or seemingly ignorant of any sexual undertones going on.

And I mean hold out longer than she can, longer than you think you possibly can, and it will drive her crazy. And most probably it will be worth it in the end. ;)

Sankarin; you're just confirming what their mothers warned them about - boys only want one thing. ;)
My theory about the guys that just "go for it" on first date is that they probably watch too much prn - they have a skewed vision on what dating is all about. Or they're used to paying for it.

That said, it also looks like you have problems picking up cues that Polish women put out. Whatever they did that made you think it's ok to kiss them - you were wrong.

Do you have a partner, F?

I like keeping some of my private details hidden from this forum. I've revealed entirely too much about myself here already. ;)

But Sobieski is right, the kind of advice you're seeking here you should get from your friends.

But I'm curious. What's Upper Room? If Rafal is homeless, where do you think he sleeps? Are you sure he's not playing house with another woman? Your friends are always drunk??

oh, enough already. "I'm so ugly" routine only works on very few, to most people it's annoying.
Maybe that's why Rafal didn't call.
Try something else.
No weapons though.

you sound much younger...
Why do you think you are ugly? Have people called you that?
You also make a lot of simple grammatical errors. I'm beginning to wonder if this is not an exercise in your Polish language profficiency.

besides the ones you mentioned, here are some other possibilities:
* he's trying to get his sh!t together and will call you when he gets a phone
* he's trying to get his sh!t together and will not call you when he gets a phone
* he's a worthless bum that says whatever comes easy
* He forgot or has more pressing issues
