Poland's atheist loonies have had their 5 minutes

Polonius3 994 | 12,367
5 Jan 2011 #1
After several years of trying to whip up anti-Catholic hysteria in Poland and get people to formally turn their back on their faith, a group of raving atheist nutters, including screechy-voiced post-communist witch Senyszyn and homo-agitator Biedroń, have not generated the kind of interest and backing they had expected. Philosopher Bohdan Wolniewicz suspects this small but noisy band of godless crusaders are out after financial support from wealthy Western atheist circles by implying that atheists are persecuted in Poland.

Poland has a lot of nutters and they're not atheist.

The church is whipping up the anti-catholic hysteria by itself. There's no need for any direct action against it.

When a thread has a nasty title like this one, you probably know right away who started it. Someone who describes a distinguished Polish professor and politician as a

screechy-voiced post-communist witch Senyszyn

and an equality campaigner as

homo-agitator Biedroń,

. Homosexuality being a topic to which Polonius3 obviously gives a huge amount of personal thought, judging by the number of threads he has made on it.

This Bohdan Wolniewicz who is a clergyman is entitled to his point of view - and he certainly isn't backwards in spouting his views on the internet - but his premise (the usual one - that they are out to get us) doesn't stand up. For those who don't read Polish, the reverend is saying that since only 18000 people completed an internet declaration that they're atheists or agnostics, the website in questions campaign isn't a success. The stuff about

this small but noisy band of godless crusaders are out after financial support from wealthy Western atheist circles by implying that atheists are persecuted in Poland.

is pure comedy. How many "wealthy Western atheist circles" read Polish or care what goes on there?

For the record, church attendance in Poland (though very hard to get accurate published statistics) seems to be falling.

Hard to find anything suggesting they are Christians in Wohniewicz's article or Polonius3's original post...

Hehe
Just by the title of the thread, it's obvious who wrote it.
On the plus side, it looks like there's only one of him.

Is that why you're moving to Russia soon, because you hate Christians?

Russia is chock full of Christians.

Orthodox Catholics but also still very many post Soviet atheists.

Christianity is principally about being nice to your neighbor. Roman Catholic Church isn't Christian, it's the religion of Ancient Rome founded by Emperor Constantine. That's why there was a Protestant Reformation. Read it's history.

Roman Catholic Church isn't Christian

"Evangelicals who assert that Catholics are not Christian will have a hard time standing on that, because they accept the authority of the Catholic Church every time they pick up the Bible."

davidmacd.com/catholic/are_catholics_christian.htm

but to be honest with you, I'm not going to discuss about any religion here.

Not to belabor the point but...Evangelicals don't know what they believe in. The central thesis of Christianity is charity and faith, the Roman Church emphasizes sacrifice and suffering. A Huge difference.

But those Russian Orthodox that you alluded to (in a previous post) like to say that there was no Protestant reformation in the Orthodox Church. If the Roman Church was Christian there wouldn't have been a Protestant Reformation.

I provided a link. I hope you don't mind that I'm absolutely not convinced about what you're saying about it. Believe what you want CP and let me believe what I want. I hate discussions about any religions at all. They never change anything but mostly stir up a lot of bad feelings, not to say hatred (observed many times on PF).

Notice how I - being an atheist/agnost - am not replying to any of this sh¡t? Good. So now you know who's stirring up those sentiments. I may have been guilty of that myself in the past, but it has always been a reaction. No more though. Let me just finish this post by saying you have no proof for all those wild accusations whatsoever. Oh, and of course you're the person who's actively promoting the anti sentiments with most of your postings, which means that you shouldn't be surprised when other people decide to dislike you and everything you stand for with a passion. Kettle. Pot. Black.

I disagree with you, atheism shouldn't be condemned, it is after all a personal choice. As for the promotion of gay rights, I am fully in support for greater rights for homosexuals in Poland, it is high time society stopped discriminating against gays, homosexuality is not a personal choice.

I wish more people were like you, but the good news is that there will be more people like you in the future. (That's what I believe!)

this is nothing unique to christianity. the golden rule is the basis of many many religions.

Good to see the uber-Christian attitudes on display in this thread by the self-described Catholics.

on paper, it's absolutely absurd for someone to suggest that atheists are "loonies" when you look at what an atheist believes (or doesn't, more appropriately) vs. what a Christian believes.

what an incredibly arrogant thread.

I dont mean this to sound bad but.....way to go Einstein.

All churches say the same playground things..dont kill, be nice, dont steal, dont shag the neighbours wife etc. Not one of them has anything original to say.

What I find interesting in watching the creation of a religion (Scientology) is listening to people compare beliefs, its as relevant as saying that Potatoes are better than Pasta.

"Atheist loonies" reject the compare and contrast pointlessness that gives a point to others pointlessness.

Watch yourself there, there are practicing Pastafarians here that might take offense at your callous comment.
