How many people in Poland are atheist/agnostic?

What percentage would you say is atheist/agnostic?

I wonder how many of those that self-identify as Catholic only do it because they have a Catholic cultural background?

percentage of what, the World? we would need to break it down to continents to even start getting a realistic idea. I'd say around 20%. It seems the new generation of atheists/agnostics come from advanced nations, nations where access to all kinds of information is more easily available.


Ahh the old religion. Is it the ultimate form of brainwashing? You know mankind inventing God to justify his existence, it was much more feasible in the old days, nowadays the more you know the less unlikely it becomes. Ignorance is bliss.

I agree with you but that doesn't really answer the question lol. I don't really have a problem with people that are spiritual. It's those that encompass themselves by organized religion that tend to become very closed-minded.

hard to say really

there are people attending churches, just because of peer/society pressure (small towns and villages) but not really faithful. There are people that are believers, but not accepting the Church (as organisation).

Nowadays, i'd say that around 40% is still attending and believing. This is just very rough estimation from a guy living whole life in small provintional town (and working in wroclaw). Number of atheists is growing very fast for numerous reasons (agressive leftist agenda, inferiority complex towards western countries, broadband internet access and just higher salaries)

athieism has always been associated with communism- they tried to take the church away, opium for the masses....etc etc. I am a non believer living in Poland, however I am not Polish.

I think you will find those that are critical thinkers and intellectuals are more likely to be athiests. I also think that in Poland religion and culture are so mixed that if somebody was to deny the church they may get labeled something they perhaps are not.

"Intellectuals" according to themselves. Militant atheists can actually be very narrow-minded. Just like some militant men and women of faith can be.

So not true. Atheism is much older than communism. And even though the Chyurch has been fought with during commie times, it still isn't the first connotation.

Not just Poland, it's difficult to think of a country where this is not the case.

You are an essentially retired bomber from the US air force, how do you deal with that man? You were active in the gulf war, you killed dude, im having real problems dealing with that. Do you hide away under religion?

probably many, just like pagans and witches, but I assume most of them still attend church and pray in public in order to fit in and not seem like outcasts.

One thing I've noticed is that the Poles living abroad (especially in the US) are so much more religious than those in Poland.
