That is nice too. Enjoy.

Actually I was toying with the idea of writing a one off summary in the microcosm of life that is Polish Forums.

true. It was very B&W.

Nowadays it's too complex for my limited intellectual capacity to cope with.

.....watching the grass grow has many benefits.

Some of you may remember Szarlotka, who has started this thread. His abouts remains uknown, but I suspect that he moved into a small inn above the beer parlor somehwere in the South of England in order to stay close to his beer/golf friends and visits his home on weekend in order for his wife not to noticed that he moved out.

I myslef have replaced him for a few posts, but as you can see the man is NOT coming back. There are more imprtant things in life then writing for a third grade forum with the trafic speed close to internet connection during the Nixon time.

I have been busy with may things, rethinking the meaning of life, trying to figure out how to avoid Polish crowds during the summer (extremly warm and pleasant) and cleaning after my somewhat crazy cats.

Who is still around?
The two Stooges are still typing away as if there is no tomorrow and no life in such great cities as Warsaw and Poznan.
Well, I almost forgot about Pawian – he is in another great city in Poland and banned himslef for a while, but he is back, as crisp and as ready as always.

What makes a man a Pole? Well, I think that if you stand around for a while you become one regardless of nationality.
Private swimming lessons. Gone are the days of private tennis lessons.

How do guys from Poland flirt? A Duch beauty has hots for a Polish bloke who smiles widely and streches his muscles in a gym. A difficult one since Duch are probably one of the most forward nations and this girls has no idea how to read a Pole. Lets wait for his move. It is possible that he doesn't know the language. I recommend winking with Polish guys. If he doesn't react, start pretending that you have a fruit fly in the eye.

That is it folks. The forum is so slow that I might write another update next year. Asta la vista.

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

Helpful post.
Have a great day.

the problem with Polish beer is its luck of consitency. When I find the one I like it changes the taste. In other countries the breweries have been developing the recipes for years. Here in Poland it is not the case and the beer making tradition is a very short one, so you can "have a nice day" me all you want, but that is the reality. I know that small breweries try to portray it otherwise, but I am not fooled by it. They have to compete with large beer companies.

Sure there is Perla, which Harry has been talking about for a while- I tried it and wasn't taken at all, so beer, as many other edible or drinkable things are a matter of TASTE.

History / How I blew a 6 figure grant for my charity because of my appreciation of Polish history... [77]

I probably blew a nice grant.

merely by your past association with Poland. I had a Jewish boss and merely by the association with Poland, not to mention my Ukrainian roots I was a target of his hate. That is life- fair or not. He is pulling the strings, but would you rather get the money form somebody who is a bit more objective? Or it doesn't matter? People who are doing charities need to be really grounded in reality, not in the past.

Life / Grass is always greener? Poland experience. [69]

Please show me a detached house anywhere in Vancouver, or nearby for less than 1.3 million that is anywhere near as nice as this $300,000 USD one in Warsaw.

it is the price of the land that makes the difference, so YES Poland is still cheaper. Houses are more solid then the Canadian ones for sure.

Life / Men in Poland in the forest? Just men? [133]

finally a voice of reason.

However, I really enjoyed reading this thread.

The speculations were really well thought through and the presentations were very up to the international standards. I really liked the Asian spin.

We are squatting in front of computers, but it has nothing to do with being Asian;)

Food / "Poland - it's the new Provence of food" [56]

Poland is not Provance and everybody knows it, however there are many new trends emerging when it comes to food, even though with mixed results. It is getting better, but it will take time.

News / Polish language diacritical marks at risk! [20]

I have not been using them for ages and once in Poland most people I communicate with via mobile don't use them. That doesn't mean that I am losing the ability to use them. It doesn't happen that fast. However communication in more then one languages makes using them difficult.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1462]

Probably because there's no Polish look in fact.

there is as there is a German look and many others. I am able to recognize a foreigner almost right away in Szczecin by the way they carry themselves. It is a combination of things including living in a different society, wearing different clothes, making different money, being relaxed and comfortable with themselves, and being a tourist. I am also able to recognize a Polish person when abroad; physical features and different behavior.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

well, the thing is that those who didn't succeed in new capitalism think that most of the people who did are crooks. The reality is not so b&w, because my sis was not a crook and she succeeded. Simple hard work and the ability to adapt:D

Anyway, reality is frightening and it is natural to avoid it. If you want reality, start with how the communists prepared in the mid-80's for the "fall" of communism. Understanding this would help understanding the present. Temat rzeka.

why do you get so patronizing? I was in Poland during those times.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

Ya I see more and more people moving back to Poland with the way the economy is going. Also for me it was so much easier and cheaper to start a business here than it would have been back in the states..

It really depends on the business.

Oh, Afro, you're free to start a topic at any time.

I have been on this forum for a long time and I am retired at the moment. Just check, what is written and most of the time it is written for the sake of writing, very much removed from reality.

Compared to most places in Europe it is doing well.

true, but other places in Europe have not been doing well at all, so the comparison does not have a leg to stand on.

time stands still in Poland... yet pretty up to date at the same time.. one shouldn't be optimistic about this whole situation tho, 'coz if this continues Poland will be living in the past pretty soon.. I just thought that was obvious

True, dynamic is not something one should use to describe Poland at the moment. I have noticed it at least a year ago, but it has started sooner then that.

Angry Catholic. There are plenty of those about.

Radical stance is a sign of poor economy. Although Polo does not live in Poland, somehow he adopted such a stance.

there is nothing to read on PF these days, just saying:(.

Polo took over most of the topics and with his rabid hate for everything removed from real life, he made this forum dead.
Or, most people are busy x-mas shopping, so Polo has been left to guard the post.

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

So let's start the bids for May the 1st :)

I am in. What I was trying to say and failed is this: The Jewish fest will be booked and the prices will be high- I think. May is nice and I get some time off during that weekend and, I will have time to plan and find some nice place to stay. The last time I stayed in Krakow was off the Old Rynek, the price was pretty good too.

count me in

great. I will finally meet my master;)

Not because of a lack of drink though, mainly cos the pubs round here are a bit weegie like.

Like I said before, I'm easy on dates but with my kind of work I do I need advance notice. Only certain people are qualified to work in my ward (challenging behavior - self harming, suicidal, arson, aggressive behavior and schizophrenic) so can only get holidays when someone on the other shift agrees to sign a "contract" to cover my days off. The joys of my job :D

sounds like you need a break;)

SeanB: perhaps we can create a new thread, so we will get more replies? It looks like I will be the only woman, which is not a problem, but I am sure there are some new faces who would want to join in.

nothing on there for the 1-3 May though.

that is fine with me. However, this weekend is usually booked solid if I am not mistaken. Please confirm if I am right.

28,06 - 07,07 2013.

even more booked solid, so I am not really kin on that particular date, although I have always wanted to attend that festival.

krakow's Jazz festival is also a great time to be here, with free concerts.

sounds good to me since I am a jazz fan:D.

However, I will go with the majority:D

So maybe tie it in with the Jewish festival in Krakow, free concert and great music but that isn't until summer.

May long weekend could be good: 1-3 of May. Davie cannot make it before that and I agree that there should be NO paintballing.
Nice food, good drinks and good company. I will notify other people

You are drunk, aren't you? lol
.

I'll be back in a few hours.

Who's organising the good old days PF meet up in Polska then?

Why don't we organize it. Simples. Warsaw or Krakow?
