News / Giant Jesus Rising in Świebodzin ( Tallest in world ) [323]

Now everyone in the world started to notice Poland!! Now, I can see more news coming about Poland, here in Australia where mostly England counts as Europe only.

Earlier in every newspaper, tv & radio news and on the internet around the world, everyone was talking about this statue - what a great achievement!!

Swiebodzin is now home to the tallest statue of Christ, named "Christ the King" (that's why he wears the gold crown) and people are planning to go over there to see it wioth their own eyes.

Is something wrong with it??? Who are the unhappy people here because of this statue??? Get a life morons!!!

Life / Are Poles bigots and xenophobes? [205]

The Romas are treated with discrimination and outright aggression.

Just to educate you on some facts!

..did you ever had any contact with Roma people??? I had!

They are lazy and well organised group of criminals. They force they own and small children into prostitution and live from it. Adult don't work because they live from begging and stealing, they teach their own children from as early as possible how to beg and how to rob ordinary and sometimes even poor people.

These scambags should be put in one controlled area just to protect all of us, and not only people in Poland. They are already "working by begging and stealing&robbing" in the UK, in France. We'll soon hear where else they are strong and hard "working". Maybe they are already on their way to Texas? It's possible.

Rich Romas don't care and do nothing to change their own peoples criminal behaviour, that's why we all should act and do something to stop these beasts. I wish there was one law in the whole Europe to address this problem.

I think it would be very difficult for a non-Catholic to live in Poland,

Get your facts in order before you write about things, gypsy.

Obviously it doesn't help that the Catholic church is frantically anti-gay.

It is the most disgusting thing it could ever happen to human - to be gay.
There is nothing more to say.

BUSIA/BUSHA:What's with this anti-busha (busia) thing anyway? It's simply a Polish-American reigional variant for grandmother

Why do you expect Polish people (in Poland and from Polonia group ) to know what's busha or busia; simply the word doesn't show Polish or Polish/ English connection with proper word "babcia" as grandma.

For me it looks more like a connectin with English word "bush" , in Polish means "las/busz" not babcia.
Same with "busia", looks and sounds similar to Polish "buzia" which means "face"

Why don't you post-PRL-ians start criticising that nonsense you hear all about you these days?

Stop that "PRL-s" thing, it's boring and nonsense is to use busia/busha when you mean "babcia".

In Polish we have 4 simple words to name our closest family and if you are Polish you supposed to know that, there are no excuses:

mama - mum
tata - dad
babcia - grandma
dziadek - grandad

Love / Polish relationships (race and religion) [140]

I mean the man was an American and the girl Polish ...the girl was not the most attractive Pole ... but they looked happy

Are you saying, that only beautiful looking Polish girls deserve to be loved by Americans, what thaa?????
What wrong with you man?
You are so excited because "the "American couple are looking for any kind of mixed couples", LoL -I can tell you it sounds wierd and just wonder how did you find out "they were highly intellectual" - I can't believe it .

I wish you all the best with your Korean wife but only time will tell how it goes and
"nie chwal dnia przed zachodem slońca" because you are on a long long way before you can discover if such marriage (with mixed race and culture) really works.

Especially wait when you have children because it'll tell how well organised and understanding you are as a couple, mixed culture couple.
Also regarding in-laws, my private opinion is: if you don't want to destroy your marriage , you shouldn't mix with your in-laws (both of you) , love them but keep distance from each other.

I wouldn't recommend (as you do) to anyone to fall in love with a foreigner. Sometimes you have a choice - sometimes you can do nothing about it but try to avoid this as much as possible.

Life is hard as it is these days and to add cultural differences in marriage, it's often too much and these couples are separating much often in compere to other couples; but only their kids pay the price.

Within my circle of friends we've got a couple his Polish, she's Japanese and after 8 yrs, plus two children they are divorcing. What a shame and no-one could believe, she has a lover, an ugly monster but with much more money then her husband.

That's what counts for Asians, that is the reason their parents always keep close eye on their married offsprings. They would even recommend to split if their husbands not earning well.

I could always see how different they both were , you could always feel the coldness from her. Yeah of course she's still beautiful, that's the fact and the only thing which mattered for the guy from the start. Maybe that's his lesson in life.

Wow asik - so judgmental

It's forum and I'm not judgmental it's just how I see things and what I know.
Is something wrong with it?? I don't expect you agree with me.
Why some people are always so unhappy when one has completely different opinion.

Love / Polish relationships (race and religion) [140]

It is not as though one must sit on the in-laws laps or stay with them 24/7, however being respectful must apply.

I wrote "love them..."
I didn't suggest not to love them or to ignore them or not to care.

There is no reason a person should let oneself be bondage to skepticism and sadism.

You sound "high"; Life is beautiful, isn't it :)

About my married life ... it is something I know we must always be actively aware of.

It's good you are aware.
As I said before , I really wish you well and I'm not saying I'm against such marriages, just that these mixed marriages are in reality much harder to maintain then the ones within the same or similar culture . Some people don't realise there are this additional barriers and that's the reason I wouldn't recommend mixed marriages and it doesn't matter from what country the partner is from.

History / POLES NOT KEEN ON REPRODUCING? WHY ARE THERE SO MANY GERMANS AND RUSSIANS? [67]

No, really?
Did anyone suggest Poles have a problem with reproducing? I don't think so!!!

Over 38millions Polish nationals living in Poland is not a bad number and to add many more millions living abroad, who would complain??

When you look at the statistics (2005) you'll see that some countries, like Russia and Germany gain new citizens from other countries through immigration or refugee programs.

In compare, Poland is on 46 position with only 1.8% -706 000 (in number) new citizens gained from immigration; Russia is on 2 positon with 6.5%- which make over 12millions immigrants ; Germany on 3 position with over 5.4% - 10 millions immigrants as new citizens.

The US military is reportedly highly critical of the competence and capabilities of Polish forces serving in Afghanistan.

From what I know they are critical of every other army not only Polish, except their own.
Why bother to join the Americans in their wars anyway!

Food / What is the traditional number of Wigilia courses in Poznan area? [13]

In my parents home we celebrated Wigilia with 12 different courses, as explained in Wikipedia:

The evening supper

After first star appears on sky and sharing the opłatek, the supper begins. The number of dishes is traditionally the number of expected guests plus one. The number of courses is traditionally established to be either twelve or an odd number (in Silesia)twelve is symbolic of the number of months in the year is good as well as to celebrate the twelve disciples of Jesus.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigilia

It's tradition that we put one additional plate for an unexpected guest.

Today, in my home, there is no difference, i am preparing 12 different courses and no meat is allowed.

Law / Old Polish money banknotes - what's their value today? [414]

WHAT IS THE VALUE of the piecdziesiat zlotych 50, 1988

In 1995, Poland re-denominated its currency and did away with some increasingly embarrassing zeros. What was once worth 10 000zl became worth 1zl and is now differentiated by the tag PLN (1PLN).

Old 50zl is worth today 0.005PLN (in bank exchange).
Maybe there are some collectors who are willing to pay you something for the note, but I don't think it is worth anything yet.

I've never met healthy looking vegetarians and Poland is no exception. The ones I've ever met all looked like zombies or even worse. That's really scary.

My now neighbour changed his mind about his vegetarianism after experiencing near heart attack at the age of 35. Now he eats red meat, which is a must when you want to be healthy and to live longer!

Australia / Category 5 Cyclon Yasi approaching Queensland [23]

The biggest and strongest cyclone to ever approach Australia is just approx. 12 hours away from the Queensland coast.
Cyclone Yasi is 500km wide, with 100km wide eye and is expected to landfill today between Cairns and Townsville with gale forced winds upwards of 300km/h.

news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8205143/yasi-most-devastating-in-queenslands-history

God have mercy on people in Cairns and the surrounding area!

cyclone over noone died it was a puzzy one

Noone died- that's how it should be!

The cyclone is still there (now weaker and Category 3 not 5) moving slowly though the land, stright into mining town Mount Isa.
We don't know what the damage is or if anyone was killed. The area is without power and can't be accessed yet. They say there are no damage to the evacuation centers, thx god.

There are towns now called "ground zero" but we don't know the details about the damage yet.

I think its a natural instinct to remain at your home if at all possible...

Are you sure that your house withstand approx.300km/h wind? The best way is to go into evacuation center but with strong structures like shopping malls, which are build here to withstand this kind of disasters and which are partly underground.

Everytime there is cyclone we learn from it, now I am sure where to go, if anything like this happen in my area (Brisbane), unless we build our private bunker.

Just as a reference, this is like a 35mi wide F3 tornado

Cyclone may "work" a little bit like a tornado but it is not really a tornado.

We call it cyclone here in Australia and the similar to this disastrous event is named huriccane in the USA.
Cyclone Yasi is compared with your Huriccane Katrina in 2005 which completely destroyed some areas.

to construct a small shelter that can stand up to such a wind...

It is easy to build a shelter against like american's tornado (with winds only) but it makes a big difference when you have a cyclone ( a hurricane) with destructive winds and rain, which heavily floods everything around you.

A structure inside & underground the house would only work but while living in a big city, it'll be easier and safer to seek shelter.

News / Poland leads nations in raising 90 million euros for Belarus opposition [73]

Poland really cares about it's citizens!

People with Karta Polaka are from countries of former Soviet Russian republics and in most these countries don't recognise dual citizenship, which means you cannot become citizen of another country because you loose your current citizenship- like it is in Bielorus.

Karta Polaka doesn't interfere with these (citizenship) rules and is a good way to recognise Poles unless they want to return to Poland for good, then they would be able to acquire any Polish documents while living in Poland.

Law / Question about the drinking laws of Poland. [45]

Get a life Lodz ... do you know that the zakazane (prohibited staff) is more dangerous then the stuff which is available and within our reach?

It is parent duty to talk to a child about the dangers in everyday life, especially about addictions etc. but it doesn't mean your child would be abstinent because you told him some facts about it.

It is in human nature to try new things and you cannot do a thing to prevent it, so stop judging others and try some different things before your mission on Earth ends; you sounds like you really need something for a change.

Back to the topic: Question about the drinking laws of poland.

In Poland the rules are like in Australia we do not have age limit for drinking or smoking but to purchase these you need to be over 18.

In Poland there is no age limit for drinking but you need to be 18 to buy alcohol in pubs or in shops.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_drinking_age

§15.1 Clearly states that buyers must be at least 18 and prove it with ID if they look like they may not be at least that age. However, drinking alcohol under 18 is not forbidden.

Similar with smoking, no age limit to smoke:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoking_age#Poland

News / Poland leads nations in raising 90 million euros for Belarus opposition [73]

Hahahaha. Right - that's why they haven't even organised an evacuation of Polish citizens from Egypt yet!

Why do you hate Poland so much? What's the point of your lies about Poland?

Here some short details about evacuation of Polish citizens from Egypt. The Polish plane LOT was sent there on 01/02/2011 at 7am; today is 03/02/2011

The preperations took place from 31 January, they waited ( other countries too) because it didn't look so bad at the start.

In Belarus, it's not recognised by the Belarusian authorities, but under Belarus law - there's nothing preventing it. Same as Poland and most other countries - you are simply recognised as a Belarusian citizen while in Belarus if you hold both a Belarus and other passport. It is, like most countries, illegal to declare yourself to the Belarusian authorities using a foreign ID document if you are a citizen of Belarus.

NOT true!
Poland recognises dual citizenship, which means when you are in Poland you are treated like Polish citizen and you are required to have Polish documents with you but they have nothing againts the fact if you acquired citizenship of other country, like ie: Australia or UK etc. I am Polish dual citizen and I know how it works.

In Belorus (or in Russia),the law states: when you acquire other country citizenship you automatically loose your Belarusian/ Russian citizenship, which is completely different to the Polish law.

After EU entry, this was highlighted even more - and the Karta Polaka was introduced as a way to ease the pain of visas suddenly being required for people who considered themselves ethnically Polish. For what it's worth, most of these Poles can't even speak Polish properly.

You don't need to speak proper Polish if you were born Polish, it doesn't matter where in the world you live.

he Karta Polaka was a direct result of Brussels telling Warsaw to "think twice" in 1991 - Poland had to guarantee to take back anyone from the Soviet Union/FSU that crossed into the Schengen signatory countries in order to gain visa free access to the Schengen countries in 1992.

Maybe there was need to think twice before approving everyone's (who said I'm Polish) citizenship from former Soviet Union. We all know that KGB agency (Miss Chapman is a good example here) is well and working until today and anyone could and still can pose as a Polish citizen.

UK, Ireland / Estimated number of Poles in Ireland thought to exceed 200,000 OR over 5% of population. [200]

I know plenty of lazy Poles... they live off their parents if they can't live off the state..

Who are you to judge Poles like that? Can you tell what's your nationality?

I live in Au long enough and did not meet one person of Polish origin who lives from benefits or is lazy like English (or from British origin) people are, here in AU.

Do you know that the most dirty suburbs in Australia are where Poms (people of English origin) usualy live. I was told this (by teacher) at my English classes ; it's not hard to find these places; most of these people live in government sponsored houses, are on benefits, doing nothing, except using drugs and alcohol.

Look at Poles in Au, they are hard working people, they don't need benefits because they are too rich to even qualify for any help from government. Similarly, same with other nationalities, like Russians, Italians, Greeks, Serbs and many more.

Did you mean you don't like Poles because they know how to live their life, Ash?
I am sure it is why you and the like of you don't like this special skills about other nationalities.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

I guess this the first time I have to agree with southern.Ukrainian broad spent couple of years in Canada and now she is "western".Pathetic broad.

Me too, it's unbelievable how can one be more Canadian then Polish after just 7yrs away from Poland?

Everytime she (aphrodisiac) writes something about Poland her way of writing says she doesn't belong to Poland and she's not even Polish.
Some facts here don't add up. If she was abroad 7yrs then it was the year 2003 whe she left Poland. Still she doesn't remember 90s in Poland? hmmm

Maybe she left as a child and now she's in her teens that'll explain but....she came to Poland and is a teacher now?? Doesn't add up at all. Never mind.

Who are you aphrodisiac? Why you write about Polish people as if you were not one of them? That's wierd. Why you see Polish people only in a bad way?

I live abroad 20yrs and would know what to expect in Poland. It wouldn't be surprise to see dirty train ( maybe some of them but personally I didn't see). It wouldn't be surprise that people are cheating (some of them!) as it happene everywhere, (Canada including) not just in Poland.

It wouldn't surprise me that people are rude (not everyone and not just Poles!) as it happens everywhere.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

for now teaching English - what else can I do here. I also was working in that field before I left, so it is quite easy and I like that job most of the time.

I can't believe you were already teacher before you left Poland. Now, after 7 years - what a change, that's disgusting not annoying.
Not to mention your predending not to know a thing about the real life in Poland or about Polish men and the Polish custom of married people. To add, pretending not to know a thing about life in Poland in the 90s. ?

It's not hard to guess what kind of "teacher" you are- that's for sure.

There is many reason I wouldn't like to move but I love my boyfriend and I just wanna be with him.

Why don't you go there for a visit first? Sharing accommodation with your boyfriend would be against the local (muslim) law.

pośpieszyć (się)

This one is the only one correct .
Also
pośpiech (noun)
pośpieszny (adj.)

Sorry (I can't believe it) but I find out that according to changes:

-ródło: Jan Miodek, Słownik ojczyzny polszczyzny, Wydawnictwo Europa 2005

now we can use both versions of these verbs and it's up to you what version you use, both are correct

pospieszyć (się)
pośpieszyć (się)

except, noun pośpiech which is in one form only.
