Real Estate / Polish law on inheritance and real estate [42]

Merged: Inheritance of Real Estate - taxes

if someone inherits real estate from a mother or father - do they pay taxes on this or is it a direct transfer? Would making the child a co-owner before death prevent this?

Life / When will SMOKING BE BANNED? (from public areas in Poland) [44]

Discuss!

the smoking levels here are absolutely disgusting. hard to enjoy a patio without the waft of cigarette smoke.

Any info on Polish anti-smoking laws, campaigns, and statistics?

I'm curious as a vehement anti-smoker :)

Work / Are there any jobs for Americans in Poland? [46]

as others have mentioned - "outsourcing" is your best bet - aka working in a call centre ;)

If you can stomach the work, you will earn a 'liveable' wage by Polish standards, and your English & Spanish should get you a job fairly easily. There are Droves of Spanish in krakow living the Eastern European dream by doing this.

Real Estate / Landlord in Poland - tenant laws, statue of limitation [26]

how much energy do you invest in life in complaining about things and fighting battles with landlords?

If the place is so bad - a) why did you rent it in the first place? b) Why don't you walk away and find a better place?

Work / How much is the average living cost in Poland for foreign student? [44]

i spent about 6000zl a month last summer but then again I was drinking about 150zl a day at the bars ;) Wine, women and song will quickly drain your bank account in PL...

realistic budget about 500zl / month for a room + 1000zl or more to live comfortably

so yeah about 400-500euros should be sufficient

*edit* and as others have mentioned - no point working here, student jobs pay a pittance - try about 2 euros an hour. not even worth your time

Life / Junk Yard / Auto Zlom in Krakow? I need BMW parts [5]

I agree that allegro parts are cheap but if I want something same day it is nice to head over to the local junkyard and just grab the parts without waiting for the postman to come :)

although I may have to go allegro I guess

Life / Health insurance in Poland - your suggestions please [35]

Merged: HEALTH INSURANCE - CHEAPEST????

so ironically enough I need Health insurance to get residence card so i can get a parking pass :)

male 32 years old, healthy

I want bare bones covered - just enough to legally allow me residency status.

NFZ quoted 7700zl down payment plus 350 a month which is ridiculous! (maybe I don't need that parking pass after all haha)

where else is good?

Love / What do you like most about Polish girls? :) [120]

Like about Polish women? Give me a break!

haha you sound like you are describing the sorts of Eurotrash that end up out of Poland. The Polish girls I know and love are nothing like this...

although... i did laugh at "they sound like a fax machine in bed" - the accents can be quite funny :D

Real Estate / Best area in Krakow to live? [43]

stare miasto - hands down ! kazimierz is overrated

stare kleparz is good area.. anywhere along karmelicka too.. to the west Smolensk (street) is super quiet too Jubilat area good

If you have the money - why live super far from the centre and have to rely on public transit? Kind of a no-brainer

Podgorze apparently the next hot area in krakow but I find it too far of a walk from the rynek

Love / What do you like most about Polish girls? :) [120]

i love how everyone assumes the cooking and cleaning thing is a sexist thing! lol take a deep breathe and relax

I cook and clean.. its just nice when a girl can share the responsibilities. The many polish girls I have dated, including my current girlfriend, make you feel special by taking care of you - I like this.

It is a nice contrast to north american girls who 9 times out of 10 can't even cook Kraft dinner :)
