News / Poland is being robbed - Kukiz [37]

For me he is another Tyminski, too bad he cannot be deported to Canada. I yet have to hear his program. But for sure he eats into the PIS electorate, the same brainless, education-less Polonia crowd. And to testify to his hypocrisy - He performed for 76.000 PLN "in defence of democracy in Bemowo", arguably the most corrupt gmina in Warsaw (even PO and PIS agree on this) He could do it for free perhaps?

Study / Study in Lublin - what is the student life here? Any racism? Accommodation and part time job possibilities. [17]

Stop trying to discourage anyone who wants to study in Poland.

Jon...You surely know...these "students" coming to Poland to "study" at such kind of "university" only are looking for a backdoor into Schengen. Next question he will ask is about job opportunities. Next if he can bring his family to Poland and if they can work here as well.

As somebody else pointed out...There are large Pakistani/Indian/Bangladesh communities in the UK...Why would he come here?

News / Presidential elections and debates 2015 Poland [472]

For me Komorowski has first of all dignity, even when he lacks charisma. Duda is the puppet of JK, who is in turn a puppet of Mr Maybach.

Duda is a plastic barbie. Everything what he does or tells emanates from Żolibórz.

Genealogy / Possible variants of Polish surname Switzijnck [6]

I wonder which of the two is closest phonetically to the present one? I mean a Polish emigrant to Belgium in 1870 could have had his name misspelled easily upon entry. Also I was checking the internet for a brewery with both these names but nothing turned up.

Life / Where to find reputable house cleaner/ cleaning agency in Poland? [9]

If you are in Warsaw, I could recommend our Ukrainian housekeeper Pani Irena who is already coming here well over four years. Very reliable and honest, doesn't speak any English though. I think she has time left on Saturdays and Thursdays.

Genealogy / Possible variants of Polish surname Switzijnck [6]

I have an acquaintance whose forefather emigrated to Belgium from Gdańsk in 1870. Her family name is as I wrote, and the family presumably owned a brewery in Gdańsk or Warsaw. I checked the internet but nothing. I suppose the name was wrongly registered at that time in Belgium. My questions...what could be a correct Polish variant of this surname, and does anybody know if there was a brewery with that name in Poland?

Travel / What to do with six hours to spend in Wrocław? [5]

OK...so I know Wrocław from 1989 (when I was there first time)...Haven't been there for 12 years. Which are the nicest places to have a dinner in the Old Town these days... ? Or to have a drink ? There used to be the Spiż brewery below the City Hall....

Booked on impulse a Ryanair domestic ticket from Warsaw for my loved one's birthday. Both she and I have strong memories from the city....

As I wrote in the heading, it's only six hours (and then back to our everyday life in Warsaw)...any suggestions ? Has to be a quiet half day without running around (not "If this is Monday, it has to be Warsaw")

Work / Possible lifestyle in Poland? Job offer - 12K to 13K PLN. [40]

Though yes - I go to that bar mleczny sometimes as well, and 2 people can eat 2 courses for under 30 zl - no booze though, no evening opening and definitely no amuse bouche.

For sure :). But the food on offer is decent and sometimes after work there is simply no time to cook...And it beats all the take-away "pizzas" :)

Or even for one person with drinks.

150 PLN for a one-person meal? That's insane.
I have been a few times to the Bar Mleczny here at Marymoncka, not so exalted as your dinner places Harry, but it was pretty decent "babcia-style food for a piitance.. We btw rarely spend more as 100-120 PLN for a meal for us together, including drinks.

Law / Penalty points on driving licences in Poland [26]

To cut a long story short, you were driving way too fast and then tried to play the "dumb foreigner - I do not speak Polish" act.Too bad the new fine system is not in force yet for people like you.

in ticket machines (they are located on level -1 in the commercial aisles of the Central Station

The ticket machines in Dworzec Centralna only issue tickets for IC/TLK trains. KM is another operator.

Real Estate / Cheap Poland Flat Pricing online as low as 75,000 zl are these prices real? [26]

The pizza place with outdoor tables I mentioned in Wrzeciono

Ah I see which one you mean. I am doing often shopping in the Biedronka opposite and going to the Mediateka which is aroind the corner. As it is, when I ask my neighbors here in Stary Bielany (basically a few metro stops away) what they think of Wrzeciono they all shake their heads. Thing is, it doesn't really look like run-down, you have to know it what kind of people live there.. I know this because I am living nearby. But then, I wouldn't know which areas in Praga or Ursynów (for example) are less desirable.

As you pointed out correctly, an area with predominantly low-price flats and few amenities does tell something about itself.

That said and done, you sometimes only have to look at which kind of people take the bus in a given area.

In this case, and if the transfer time is tight, he has to get in the train in the first carriage and inform the conductor to issue him with a ticket. I am not sure card payment is possible on KM trains though.

If there is enough time there is the ticket counter, which shouldn't be hassle as the Modlin trains arrive at the correct (ticket counter side). Main thing is to get out here at the right side of the train.

Life / Health insurance in Poland - your suggestions please [35]

I pay my own ZUS health contributions (the amount varies every 3 months, presently it is 370 PLN per month).
Also have Medicover which covers at 360 PLN per month pretty much everything (all specialists and treatments, operations and staying their own hospital).
Damian is also included. For example when last year September I broke my arm in a bike accident, the rehabilitation was also included (20 sessions) but was done by Damian.

Yes, you buy them on the bus

When I picked up friends in Modlin recently, I noticed that both Modlinbus and Koleje Mazowieckie do have a counter inside the terminal building, and I saw people buying tickets there.

The train ticket btw entitles you to 60 minutes public transport in Warsaw.

are also three very decent multi-tap bars and a couple of Indian restaurants

I wouldn't categorize a neighborhood by these elements. For me would be important: public transport, decent shops, quietness at night. Anyway we live since ages in Bielany which has none of multitap things, nor does it have (I think) an Indian restaurant, but still one of the best neighborhoods in Warsaw to live in (though not hipster at all, which is a genuine blessing). I am talking about Stary Bielany, would not like to live in Wrzeciono though - to be avoided at all costs.
