That`s a communist style of addressing people formally - instead of Mr/Sir, they said: Citizen, with verbs in plural imperative.

History / "Poland Syndrome" should be renamed [45]

What do you want them to sell, rainwater ?

No, but ordinary ground water isn`t spring water, in fact. The difference is collossal. Is your well water spring water? Of course not, it is just ground water.

it is against the law to sell any States natural resource yet the State sell Nestlé a license to steal millions upon millions of gallons

Who took the giant bribe, then???

Where does the licensing money go ?

Hmm, to the Mafia? I have just finished reading the Godfather.

Now if you take my thread off - topic again I will kick you in the nuts.

I thought we have an alliance for the Polish cause???

Great. I am also happy to work in such unison with you. So, let`s put Poland Syndrome on the waiting list for future consideration and let`s first deal with Poland Spring which defaces the good opinion about Poland in the US in the most horrenduous way. Did you know they sell ordinary ground water ???? We can`t remain silent about such scam!

Yes, and I added two other derogatory names for products which have no connection with Poland what so ever. You know, if we fight for a Polish cause, we must unite our forces, mustn`t we??????

Look at this propaganda poster, does it ring the bell???

Travel / Architecture style in Poland [24]

It is a city built in XVI century by nobleman Jan Zamoyski.

Yes, that`s a great example of a perfect town built from a scratch.

Later communists tried to follow that example building a perfect town near Krakow, called New Steel Mills. Paradoxically, Nowa Huta was one of the most rebellious anti-communist places in Poland. haha

That`s disputable. The settlement was created in 13th century under a strong influence of Czech and German settlers. Poland was divided into seperate feudal states then. Let`s say it was Polish, Czech and German. hahaha

That`s enough for a difference in architecture styles. The city had always been divided into two seperate parts until 1951. Silesian Bielsko was first Czech, then Austrian from 1526. Less Poland`s Biała was always Polish until the Austrian partition in 1772.

A great site with a lot of photos:

I found this on facebook in a Polish language group for professional translators

Wow, amazing vocabulary. I know some of it from books set in old times. But half of it isn`t used anymore. E..g instead of sneszka, we say synowa - son`s wife.

News / Poland's PiS party members and crime [346]

Why just PiS? In the embezzlement department the Platfusy are the leaders, and the ex-commies of the SLD are not far behind.

No more. PiS has surpassed all of them within 5 years since they got power in 2015. Thank you, PiS.

Feedback / Polish forums members - please stop being agressive and dishonest. What a waste of potential. [48]

I still use it today to ask questions and usually get an quick answer.

You don`t ask any questions anymore, does it mean you know everything about Poland?

the mods do a good job in general and quickly dump stuff that is off topic into the bin

Yes, they are wonderfully savvy when it comes to forum business.

I am sure the majority here will respond in a helpful way.

yes, there are still a lot of helpful guys here.

Thank you, dolno, for sharing these useful opinions with us.

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation [1756]

the picture in the wikipedia entry for struga is far closer to what creeks look like where I'm from

aaah, I checked that entry and I know why we differ now! Struga is an official expression for streams, but it is seldom used in everyday language. :) Funny. Thanks, I have just learnt sth new.

wrong meaning..... (I looked in google images and struga was the closes to my mental image)

Sorry, but struga isn`t creek. If you meant the creek don`t rise idiom

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_creek_don%27t_rise
an American slang expression implying strong intentions subject to complete frustration by uncommon but not unforeseeable events.

it should be strumień, potok, strumyk, rzeczka. Never mind. :)

Travel / Are there any osho related places in Poland? [19]

I am from that origin though but dearly love my polish wife for 26 yrs so the sex part for me doesnt attract

That`s nice. Has this attitude lasted till 2020? Because people, when they age, tend to forget their earlier vows and decide on brave new adventures.

Bielsko-Biała is words apart from say Wroclaw

Bielsko Biała has never been as rich as Wrocław (the biggest city in Silesia) that is why their architecture differs. Wrocław`s is more splendid coz those merchants had more money. Simple.

Life / Is Polish church involved in politics too much? [137]

Hey, did you hear that the first church marriage of Jacek Kurski, PiS TV chairman, was annuled after 24 years!!! Monika, his first wife, and Jacek had divorced in 2015, they have 3 kids.

A few days ago Jacek Kurski got married for the second time. Again, a religious ceremony. hahahaha Isn`t it fascinating?

Thank you, dear Church, for supporting Polish families so much! Pity they are mostly politicians` families. However, if one offers a good donation, his/her marriage can also be annuled, so ordinary people also have a chance, it only depends of the content of the wallet.

Gdansk and Krakow differ.

Gdansk was a member of the European merchants` corporation called Hanseatic League while Krakow wasn`t. Ex- Hanseatic League cites share certain architectonic traits.

This article on 3 pages enumerates sacred springs and wells in Poland.

Ooops, it seems the link got deleted somehow and now when I want to bring it back, it says it doesn`t exist anymore. Strange. ?????

So, famous sacred springs one by one.
