Food / Polish cakes made in Poland [115]

It looks like a load of bread rolls to me.

Indeed, but it is wet sandcake based on cottage cheese.

News / Years of Poland in the EU - assessment of pros and cons [1199]

Goals of Polish presidency as I see them:

Forgot about one goal:
- encourage other countries to aid Ukraine as much as possible to win the war, start the restoration and prepare Ukraine for the EU membership.

can't do

You have no idea what Mr Honourable Prime Minister Reverend Donald Holy Tusk is up to. :):):)

women as species are irrational idiots. Women are morons.

Ptak, do you agree with Novi, your best buddy here????
No twisting this time, skip your regular evasions referring to me or my family.
Just yes or no is enough.
So, yes or no???

Language / New Years wishes in Polish? [40]

an invitation to a fight

What a surprise!!! I have always thought so about your contribution, too!!!!!! :):):)
It is so amasing we share the same opinion on each other. :):):):)
Are you sure you aren`t my twin brother who got lost when our family were escaping through swamps and primordial forests before the dogs of communist services????

As far as I am concerned dosiego is cute
and original

Of course. In contemporary Poland, still used in ads, commercials, memes and cards. Not in spoken language, though.

compared with Do nastepnego Roku,

????? That`s something new to me. :):):)

History / Modern myths and legends about communist past in Poland [250]

there were probably like a couple of dozen physical copies of movies in circulation around the country and thousands of those small town/gmina village cinemas

Gumi, I thought about what you said. If we weren`t so conflicted like now, I mean me as a decent ape which worries about Poland`s future in today`s world and you, a blind rightist who worries only about the future of your fave PiS rightist party and your own situation coz they don`t rule anymore, I would admit you were right coz now I can recall the problems with too few copies of Western films allowed by communists for circulation.

But as you are what you are and in result our relationship is as it is, I won`t say anything and won`t admit you were right. Sorry. :(:(:(
Turn to your rightist buddies to cheer you up after this setback. HA!!!!

Life / Why women's rights are not respected here in Poland? [160]

Where do you get such a

From your comments. Simple.
Check the chronology of the exchange above:

Novi wrote: Women are parasites and suggested it wasn`t only his opinion.

I asked: Do you mean Ptak also shares your opinion on women???

Ptak replied: Most certainly not yours.

That meant Ptak doesn`t consider most women as parasites but still thinks so about my women aka the ones in my family and all women I have had a close relation with in my life.

Hence, my comment: This means you claim my women are parasites.

followed by Ptak`s silly denial.

Thank you for your attention. :):):)

News / Is NORD STREAM dangerous for Poland's natural enviroment? [540]

Ukraine shut down the Russian gas pipe supplying fuel to Slovakia and neighbouring countries. Wise move coz imperial Russians will lose 5 billion $ yearly.
Putin suggested that Russians can supply gas through the Polish connection which is shut down too but can be made operational any moment.
Dear imperial Russians, stop daydreaming. No deals until you:
-withdraw from Ukraine
-pay the reparations for death and destruction
-send your war criminals to the Hague.

Did I forget anything????

News / Ups and downs of the democratic government 2023-2027 in Poland [363]

You mock 100 promises by Mr Honourable Prime Minister Reverend Donald Holy Tusk?? But this is a coalition gov. If at least 40% Poles/Polesses had voted for his party, he wouldn`t need any partners now and 100 promises would have already been fulfilled or nearly completed.
Blame yourself for not voting them. Ha!!!!

Language / Cultural disparities shown through Polish and English languages [195]

English speakers use their buying a pig in a poke.
While Poles/Polesses say : buy a cat in a sack.

Interesting story with those cats. After WW2, Polish settlers came to Regained Lands aka former Eastern Germany which somehow were deprived of the feline population. Settlers paid through the nose for ANY cat that was available.

Trading two big sacks of wheat and an ex German bike for a Polish born/raised cat is even depicted in the most popular Polish comedy. The saying is much older than the postwar events but coincidentally they hit the nail perfectly.

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

They have guns and the fact somebody may get hurt by accent or commit suicide means shlt

Stop twisting. The madly drunk soldier with mental problems was shooting at civilians. Now imagine that anybody can obtain a weapon. How many maniacs would roam streets to take out their life problems on people???

Life / What do Poles really think about cats? [470]

3 cats and 3 different reactions to firework shooting in the village centre nearby:
Black Pearl, the most fragile of all, stayed at the most isolated place in the house, far from the windows.
Ginger, the oldest, wasn`t bothered at all. He lay on the sofa and dozed.
Diaboł aka Devyl, the youngest, was fascinated. Spent all midnight on the window sill and observed the lights.

Amasing!

Law / Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns? [1070]

Poland is so lucky with that restriction on gun ownership. We don`t need US like massacres here.

Latest story:
"Today in the afternoon in the town of Mielnik (Podlaskie Province) a soldier of the 18th Mechanized Division carrying out tasks as part of the Safe Podlasie operation, after arbitrarily leaving the camp area with his service weapon, fired shots at a civilian vehicle and then took refuge in a nearby forest," we read in a statement by the Operational Command on the X portal.

"As a result of the search activities undertaken immediately, he was immediately captured by soldiers from the Mielnik Task Force. No third parties were injured in the incident. Initial findings indicate that the soldier was intoxicated," it added.

"The explanatory activities are being conducted by the Military Gendarmerie in Białystok," it was reported at the end.

Language / New Years wishes in Polish? [40]

Pawian is on the side of angels

Actually, as an Old Soul, I am. Thanks for your recognition. :):):)

Trylogia should be buried, not to mention Chlopi.

Trylogia is nice as patriotic reading to provide relief for tormented souls but doesn`t reflect the Polish language of 21st century coz it was written in 19th century. You have no contact with the current language except your short visits to Poland once in 10 years.
So, don`t grumble that Do siego roku isn`t used in everyday communication except ads and commercials.

The language has transformed, you can`t blame it cos it lives on its own.
I hope you won`t whip it for that impudence. :Like certain Roman emperor whipped the sea for bringing storm to his navy. ):):):)

News / Years of Poland in the EU - assessment of pros and cons [1199]

"Hello, Poland!" Ursula von der Leyen wrote in Polish on Wednesday on the X portal. This is how the President of the European Commission commented on the start of the Polish presidency of the EU Council."I am glad that the Polish presidency is focusing on the security of our Union in all its dimensions (...). I am grateful that we have Poland's determination and the European spirit on our side," added von der Leyen.
The official inauguration is scheduled for January 3.

Goals of Polish presidency as I see them:

-throw pro Kremlin revisionist Hungary out of the Union. W imię zasad, skurvysyny!!!!
-punish Slovakia for close ties with the Kremlin regime W imię zasad, skurvysyny!!!
-make all countries of the EU spend 5% budget on military, just like Poland. W imię zasad, skurvysyny!!!!

Life / Why women's rights are not respected here in Poland? [160]

Women are parasites...It's not just me.

Do you mean Ptak also shares your opinion on women???
Judging by his shockingly inhumane mockery of women in the past, it is quite possible.

News / Polish immigrants contribute to the world [42]

He also notices positive traits of Icelanders. E.g,, their immense trust.
Although I have also made some promising discoveries here. For example, when you are sick, all you have to do is call and tell the doctor, and he will issue a sick note. Just on your word, on faith. What would happen in Poland if we could do that! Everyone would be sick all the time.

I had been renting a flat in a family's house for just a few months and when they went on holiday to Tenerife, they suggested that I use their part too. "Do some bigger washing, take a shower. We don't lock the house," they said.

When the owner of the place saw that I was shovelling and clearing snow every day without protest - and in February it took me four hours to even dig myself out from under the snow - he offered me a longer stay for a lower price, the one from before the season. When I was getting my driving licence, he let me test drive his new Volvo.

News / Polish immigrants contribute to the world [42]

A 45 yo Polish male emigrated to Iceland. It is a cold country with cold people, he claims.

So there was a moment when I thought: this island is a dream, but I can't find my place in this country.

Why, when Iceland is the happiest country in the world after Finland and Denmark according to the 2022 World Happiness Report?
- Icelandic PR is inflated, certain advantages are exaggerated. In theory and at first glance, it is a very tolerant and politically correct society. However, I think that they are trained in this correctness. An Icelander will never tell you directly what they think of you, but they will show you without words that you are like air to them. Because of this, I often feel unnecessary here and definitely a worse person. For example, a randomly met client with whom you dealt with an issue at work two hours earlier will not answer you "hello". He will treat you with contempt because you are a foreigner. Living here since February, I experience more stress than in the last decade in Poland. I am coping with it more and more. It is really hard to cope here as a foreigner and alone.
One of the customers asks me every week: "Have you learned Icelandic yet?" and that's where our conversation ends.

One of the Icelandic writers invited me to an event for people related to literature. They even paid me for it, asked me to speak, and I could do it in English. They were very cordial. But nothing more came of it. Contacts don't deepen because the Icelanders, although very nice, are only open to a certain point. If you don't speak their language, it means you're not from here and you remain a stranger.

News / Polish PM Tusk- dictator or not? What Poles think? [455]

negatively assess work of Tusk government

Of course coz it is a coalition of 4 parties and some elements of it still refuse to give full rights to women. That is why decent people view it negatively.
However, Mr Honourable Prime Minister Reverend Donald Holy Tusk`s party is the best of all, ahead of PiS for over a year now. Amasing!

History / Modern myths and legends about communist past in Poland [250]

Yes, exactly. Communists never had enough money. Better late than never, though. Common Soviet Russians were deprived of the contact with Western culture and the only "Western" films they saw came from Poland and other block countries.

History / Modern myths and legends about communist past in Poland [250]

the vast majority are gone now

Yes, coz people prefered to see films in main cities where cinemas had higher standards.

appeared on Polish cinema screens on March 30, 1979, two years behind its world premiere.

And that was the regular occurence in most cases of Western films - they were imported some time after the original release, even a few years.
E.g, Blues Brothers was made in 1980 but I watched it with my girlfriend in 1983. Gremlins from 1984 was shown in Poland in 1987.
Why so???

History / Modern myths and legends about communist past in Poland [250]

i lived in a small place and films were reaching it much later than the cities

yes, I heard about it - objazdowe kino - travelling cinema - but I thought it applied to post war times, like 1940s or 50s, when cinema buildings were still ruined. Sorry. :):):)

of course, pawian, 'cause you know better

On most occassions, I do. Sorry. I can`t help it. :(:(:( :):):)):
