Language / Spelling "aunt" in Polish [142]

My godmother is Polish, and her nieces & nephews call her what sounds like the word you wrote (chuci.)

It isn`t cioci, but ciociu - it is the vocative case when you address sb. It is pronounced - chyochyoo.

UK, Ireland / Polish and Irish people are related? [137]

never miss an opportunity to attack the Catholic Church, who is having a crisis at the moment.

The Church isn`t able to solve its problems on its own - instead of solving and getting rid of various scum, they try to sweep dirty affairs under the carpet. If not for the media, we wouldn`t learn about many immoral acts by some evil clergy. They are experiencing a crisis but they have brought it on themselves.

Life / Do you find any humour in Polish Highlanders' stories? [24]

Are there jokes that people in the hilly parts of Poland tell about "those pesky Northerners from the valleys"?

No. To invent a joke, one needs some abstract intelligence. Highlanders have no time for such stupidities - they are busy running their businesses.

Genealogy / Do I have any Polish physical traits? [48]

It's not just me who noticed this. Another example of a flat head

Yes, that`s typical of boxers. When they get hit and knocked out, they fall backward on their occiputs. Normal. Hence flat skulls, I can even see a dent.

History / POLISH AND RUSSIAN FRIENDSHIP WILL LAST FOREVER [513]

Polish Russian friendship is possible when we mean average people who meet or work on daily basis, have fun together in casual situations and they ignore history issues coz they prefer other topics to talk about. Not all Russians support Putin.

News / How could PiS better spend billions instead of 500+ ? [280]

They simply dont have the intellect.

That has always been the rightists` problem. They are not able mto build/create anything new - they are the best at dismantling and destroying things. Yes, they played a good role in toppling communism together with other opposition groups. But later, whenever they came to power, they were incorrigible destructors.

Exactly, only about 20 people bear this surname here. Very good!

Now, a harder one. Why is this wheeled rubbish bin tipped over ?

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1450]

It's not very nice. If you're there for any length of time, you need people to bring food in.

I had also thought so until I spent a lot of time in hospital attending a relative of mine. I realised that horrible food served in hospitals was partly a myth. It isn`t so tragic, I would say it matches the standard of meals served in average income households.

I was certain we had already talked about asparagus in this thread but we didn`t, actually. I am getting old and my memory fails me more and more often. Forgive me if I post sth again.

Asparagus is so yummy. Besides, it goes well with everything - there are dozens of options. The problem is it isn`t fatty and I feel hungry soon afterwards.

Clearly you are not Polish

He might have been born in Poland but then left and received full education elsewhere.

have exposed yourself as someone not from Poland.

Yes, he did, but why is it important to you?

News / "Lack of Common Sense in Politics and Society" - political correctness in Poland [33]

(again... never heard a coherent explanation why)

It is simple - in their opinion, it carries negative connotations from the past - just like the word Cygan - gypsy. Murzyn sounds patronising as sb inferior who used to be a slave or exploited labourer, while Cygan provokes associations with a liar/fraudster.

What struck me was that he took even such basic furniture. I suppose it was a sort of demonstration on his part - it is all finished - I am taking an IKEA bookshelf too-

We already talked about the word Murzyn which sounds controvercial to some liberals. Recently some linguists proposed to remove a book "W Pustyni i Puszczy" by Sienkiewicz from the primary school reading list because it portrays blacks in negative light, glorifies racism and excuses colonialism.

they did was spit at healthcare providers (driving many out of the country)

Yes, famous words about doctors during strikes a few years ago: If they don`t like it here, they can go wherever they want.

PiS are worse than covid for this country.

Life / Male and female gossip in Poland [5]

Latest gossip. A famous actor Zamachowski left his third wife. She is miserable but it was her who once contributed to him leaving his second wife. It is suspected he found another woman, an actress, while his third wife is a journalist.

One day he packed up his things and left, taking some furniture, including the piano.
They didn`t have their own kids. Yes, they have but with previous partners.
What a sad story.

No, it is not about different locations. The diner is located in Busko but it is run by a company from Mszana. Sth else struck me as really peculiar.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 2 [1680]

Yes. it is a less known view of Lublin. I wouldn`t know it myself so don`t worry.
Btw, are there any old riddles which weren`t solved? Do you remember that submarine structure? I think we left it unsolved. It is a concrete church. You are partly excused coz I clipped the photo to remove windows and doors, leaving the submarine shape only. :):):)

Ok, lets get back to my own photos.

While in Busko, we went for lunch. I took the photo of the receipt. Why?

Life / Help me find this Polish band and song.... [117]

"boom daddi daddi, boom daddi daddi, boom daddi daddi oh hah ha

I am afraid that this chorus was invented by your mum. Or your memory fails you a little and you are mixing it with the lyrics of a pop song which contains such words.

How about the lullaby about two little cats
