Real Estate / Is my water bill too high? [11]

If he can't give you a bill for oct - December then just tell him you will ignore the whole bill

It's just as logical that you pay zero as paying all of it

He is not going to kick you out over a few hundred zloty and the law is on your side

Real Estate / Is my water bill too high? [11]

Obviously whatever happened before October is nothing to do with you.

Cost per sqm is about 1.50 a month so in a big flat then yes it could be 150 a month.

But if he told you it's without bills and you have a contact there is not much he can do

Real Estate / Cost of real estate in Przemysl [3]

Method 1. Check on Otodom the price of comparable apartments and knock off 15 percent. Then divide by number of sqm

Method 2. Find out the typical month rent in Przemysl for that type of apartment. Take 85 percent of that, multiply by 12, then divide by 0.06. Then divide by number of sqm

Law / Testaments (Wills) in Poland - leave people specific things or only percentages/fractions? [6]

No - the siblings and their kids only have rights if you die without making a will

I think your own kids have rights if you make a will but disinherit them

But there are two simple solutions

- marry your girlfriend and then you can name her as the heir

- if you are citizen if another EU country, you can nominate your will to be under those laws.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Last year I flew maybe 50 times. I didn't take a parachute once.

I said option 1 - run, option 2 fist fight. But escalating a situation with a gun might mean a worse injury or innocent people getting hurt - in fact there have been several such incidents in the UK where gun crime is getting worse.

What are the chances of a knife wielding junkie spending 6 zloty on tram fare to come to my quiet suburban street ?

If he did and he was "high" then I would run away. Or if it came to a confrontation then I would feel more confident with fists and kicks than I would firing a gun

And besides I wouldn't be walking around town with a loaded gun on me - you can't even do that in lots of US cities

There are occasional drunks and junkies in the city center but there are also police, Straz and other passers by. A knife wielded would be quickly arrested

Law / Debt in Poland - inheritance after relative death? [14]

You are a Polish citizen ?

Law has changed recently and you are only liable up to the value of the inherited assets

Not sure about if the rules changed about how to renounce but you used to be able to do that at the Polish consulate - if you speak Polish then call and ask

Life / Do Polish women dislike Asian women? [14]

They do that to other Polish women too :) don't worry about it - they can be competitive, and very protective once they have a boyfriend

Life / Could not pay loan for 10 month [3]

90k what ? Zloty or Euro ? Is it a Polish bank ? What is the collateral on the debt - a car ? A house ?

If you are in Poland, The basic position is you legally have to pay the whole debt. So a lawyer etc will just be a waste of cash. Best is to arrange a realistic repayment schedule with the bank.

Work / Moving to Poland, Working for a UK Company [34]

Are you an EU citizen ?

If not then you probably will need a work permit

There will be some tax issues and some set up admin but they can be ironed out

History / Future of Kaliningrad Oblast - is it possible to annex by Poland or will it become an independent country? [146]

Yes but the people who live there will have even more depressing lives. Nobody will invest there so the only employer will be the Russian state, which has no money.

Finland and Sweden joining NATO makes the Baltic fleet just as useless as the Black Sea fleet.

I think one solution would be to turn the Baltic fleet into gambling and party ships for Scandinavian tourists. That would generate a bit of cash.

History / Crazy 1990s in Poland - transition from communism to capitalism - stories [111]

Quite a few big business started off that way - like CCC which now sells about 50 million pairs of shoes a year !

My neighbor sold bathroom fittings that way - got them from Germany and drove back through the night to sell them. Now a millionaire with a large bathroom business

Real Estate / Can a German Citizen buy a piece of Land to build house in Poland? [14]

Yes but that can be a rather time consuming process. There are big delays in most of the government offices at the moment.

As well as a notary you will also need to make sure you have the up to date Geodezja documentation. Also note that if your partner wants to build any structure on her garden then that will be much more difficult if the plots are separated - there are limits on footprints and his close to neighboring plots etc.

Honestly might be quicker and cheaper to put a ring on it

Love / Is Marriage Or Seriously Relationship With Polish Ladies Worth It? [16]

A few months ago you asked for advice about this kid. I wrote you to consider it carefully and talk to a lawyer before making a commitment, hope you did that.

Polish women have lots of qualities but don't expect them to put you over their kid and don't expect a medal for paying the bills - you are a grown up and in Poland that ,means paying the bills (and also does in the US, certainly in Polish American households

But you are entitled to set some ground rules, if you had your own kids then you know what they are. If you didn't and came to parenting late in life then read up on that, ask friends and family and most of all discuss with your partner

Off-Topic / Stock Market and Trading Talk [1011]

I'm sticking with the 6 I picked when you challenged md in June. Of those SAP, Siemens and Schlumberger are doing nicely in this rally.

Apple and LI, your tips, are not doing great
