News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

Comrades of different colours, unite ! - you wanrted to say?

Nope. I despise communists and communism in general. For me PiS is simply a proxy to remove the remnants of the old system. By any means possible. And to do that they need to have a stable majority.

I don't fancy their economic policy since I'm a believer in capitalism myself. No other economic system is as productive. The problem is that in Europe capitalism on a way out and replaced by eurosocialism.

Yet, PiS is useful for removing old commies from Supreme Court and for opposing leftist bureaucrats from the EU and their agenda of cultural marxism.

So, looking at a modern political scene in Poland, PiS is a lesser evil.

An article about Poland in Foreign Policy: Poland's Opposition Has Nobody to Blame but Itself by Daniel Tilles, Tom Junes.

Good article. The authors have actually a good grasp of Polish politics which is quite uncommon for foreign commentators

Actually, SLD leader forbid such a coalition as not-so-very-constructive opposition wanted to form a solid anti-PiS block. Yet, local leaders wanted to make a stable coalition and work for their local communities instead of fighting in pointless wars. The whole post-election political scene in Poland looks more and more interesting

So I read that PiS has already acquired a few PSL activists in local councils. They've also made a coalition with SLD in one of them. It looks like PiS is slowly absorbing lesser opposition parties. So they not only won the local elections but also getting more traction in "local" Poland

History / POLISH AND RUSSIAN FRIENDSHIP WILL LAST FOREVER [513]

This Polish obsession with Germany, Russia and Putin looks more and more like a mental disorder.

Not much of an obsession more like a sober observation. If I twisted any fact then prove me wrong but don't to try to force "obsessions" on me.

Whatever language it is, my bet is that they don't waste any time talking about the past

Past is important. Past defines who we are now. Past also defines the whole nations and their present politics.

Without a healthy past it is difficult to build a healthy future. It just comes back to bike you in the *ss.

For example: do you think that Germany would behave like they did in 2015 if not for their ugly past?

Your past, which you shared with us on this forum, has defined you. You are a sum of your past actions, your experiences and memories.

KGB had radio operators, too. And intelligence gatherers. And other support employees

Putin was not a 'support employee' but an active field agent in East Germany.
I understand that he has got some substantial following, even outside of Russia, of people who falsely perceive him as a 'defender of conservative values'.

Ronald Reagan was a conservative. Margaret Thatcher was a conservatives. Putin isn't much more than a 'former' soviet KGB agent

Spike31 does. So I am curious why he despises a man he never met.

I've also never personally met Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot or Che Guevara and yet I despise them all for their actions.

And no, I don't think that Putin is as bad as any of those aforementioned persons.

Yet, he still is a former KGB agent (he claims that are no "former KGB agents" - once an agent you're an agent for life) and only the most ruthless and unscrupulous people worked for Soviet special agencies like KGB, NKWD or GRU.

News / Future of Polish-Ukrainian relations [632]

Do you think one day Ukraine may borrow culture from Western Slavs?

First they have to officially and practically renounce the cult of Stefan Bandera and UPA, just like Germany renounced Adolf Hitler and NSDAP.

They can't follow the cult of mass murderers from UPA/OUN and also be perceived as a civilized society at the same time.

I'm a huge S. Lem fan so I'll start with "Solaris" [1961]

If you watched any of the two "Solaris" movies - forget about them. They're not even 10% as deep and interesting as the novel is.

Solaris in an ultimate take on a concept of first contact with an extraterrestrial life.

"Man has gone out to explore other worlds and other civilizations without having explored his own labyrinth of dark passages and secret chambers, and without finding what lies behind doorways that he himself has sealed."

History / POLISH AND RUSSIAN FRIENDSHIP WILL LAST FOREVER [513]

I am all for friendship between Poles and Russians.

There is no hostility between regular Russians and Poles. The same can't be said about the governments.

I've got nothing against common Russians but despise former KGB agents-turned-politicians such as Putin.

Many Russian visits Poland thanks to semi-open border policy z Kaliningrad Oblast.

Those Russians are having a good time in Poland

Genealogy / Mongolian the Golden Horde - do Poles have Mongolian ancestry? [256]

So were Polish women. What's your point?

You can't even compare those two numbers.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_during_the_occupation_of_Germany

Soviet Soldiers were instructed not to make local communities hostile to the USRR. There were some incidents where Polish women were assaulted but it wasn't even a comparable number. Most of the rapes took place in Recovered Territories on German population, and unfortunately on Mazurs too which are not Germans, and in East Germany.

Those Soviets were primitive brutes, so I don't envy those women, but the fact is that Soviets "vent off the steam" mostly on German women.

But that's what happens to a country that starts "Total War" and then loose.

Genealogy / Mongolian the Golden Horde - do Poles have Mongolian ancestry? [256]

I think that Germans have much more Mongolian blood than Poles do since German women were raped 'en masse' by Soviet Soldiers at the end of WWII. And those late Soviet invading forces were often composed of Kazachs, Kalmuks, and some other Asian nations of the former USSR, at the end of the war

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

Except they've also clearly shown that PiS have lost popularity since the 2015 election when they won nearly 38% of the vote

My friend, how many times should I tell you that local elections doesn't directly translate into major, parliamentary elections. They only show a major trend with voters. And PiS has clearly gained the ground since the last local elections.

You are very resistant to arguments. But that's all right, I guess we'll have to wait until 2019 parliamentary elections to continue with this discussion. Time will pass anyway.

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

hat's what you call a party on the rise?

Be so kind and don't twist my words. I wrote: "In Poland there's a completely different trend and conservatism is on the rise" not that "Kukiz 15 is on the rise".

The projected results right now:

PiS - 257
KO - 192
PSL - 70
SLD - 10
BS - 10
MN - 5

Like you can clearly see, even those partial and still unofficial results that you've shared clearly shows that PiS has gained more popularity since local elections in 2014 when they won 171 mandates.

2014 local elections were followed by gaining a majority for PiS in the Parliament elections in 2015.

Those early 2018 local results shows that PiS will also gain a majority in 2019 Parliamentary elections.

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

conservatism has fallen since the 2015 election

I said it before and I'll say it again: those were local elections and not major elections. Local election has never in the history of post-communist Poland reflected major [parliamentary] elections.

Local elections in Poland 2014: PiS ~27% of the votes

Parliamentary elections in Poland 2015: PiS = majority in the parliament

Let's wait for the official results, should we? And then we can draw some conclusions. Patience is a virtue my friend

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

It only took 40 years for them to collapse largely into irrelevance, and the same trends are seen in Poland since the 1990's too.

I'm glad that you've mentioned that. In Poland there's a completely different trend and conservatism is on the rise.

SLD, an ex commie socialist party that was always present in Polish parliament since 1989 is there no more! For the first time they were completely voted out of parliament in 2015, the same year when PiS has gained majority in parliament. PiS is the very first party that had a majority in Polish parliament.

And let's not forget Kukiz 15 which a new, right-wing, political formation in Polish parliament and it chipped away votes from other parties. And what is even more interesting they took those votes from the other, non conservative parties, It is also worth to mention that Kukiz 15 is dominantly supported by a young voters.

The future is bRIGHT!

Most young people are simply apolitical in Poland and don't support anyone

Even those who don't support specific political parties stand by a specific values like Catholic religion, respect for "Cursed soldiers" an anti-communist Polish resistance, Patriotism and respect for Fatherland.

Those people are, and will be, a natural right wing and conservative voters.

When you look at the local elections of 2014 you can clearly see that "right wing" has, in general, gained popularity since then.

Essentially nothing in it. The myth of the Polish youth becoming right wing has been completely shattered in this election.

Not quite so. Those are local elections which results has never resembled the major [Parliamentary] elections in Poland.

And there's also an interesting thing about Silesia. Both: upper Silesia and Lower Silesia has voted on PiS in recent elections.

News / Should Poland made an energy bridge deal with Russia? [122]

While EU blocking direct Poland-Russia cooperation and that way harming Poland

That's true. The EU officially blocks its members from dealing with Russia but that doesn't stop some EU members from making shady "side deals" with Russia.

Make no mistake Crow, the EU is a deeply corrupted body.

Poland doesn't exclude a possibility of making a new gas deal with Russia after 2022 when a current contract expire. A new gas diversification projects are aimed at establishing a stronger position for the future negotiations.
