I think this tradition only happens in your house :)

Nope! :):):) Each year I am accosted by a few friends or relatives or neighbours or whoever and asked if we have already cleaned the windows in our house. This question belongs to standard small talk before such major holidays. Like the Brits talk about the weather, Poles and Polesses talk about cleaning the house. hahahahaha

Decent Poles and Polesses say they already have!!!
Indecent slobs say they still haven`t!!! hahahahahaha

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 3 [818]

To clean the seat and the toilet bowl?

Yes, at last! Why did it take so long?????

ou don't have to remove the seat to do that though...

Yes, you do., When you clean the toilet without removing the seat off the bowl, you do it very superficially coz the urine drops splash all over the place when you pee and get into all nooks and crannies and stay there causing bad smell so you need to clean everything thoroughly !!!! I am a perfectionist and when I start cleaning, I do it with ultimate accuracy! That is why I take off the plastic seat and wash it in the shower and I also clean the holes with the bolts which fasten the seat - they are the dirtiest. HA!!!!!

Try to remove the seat in your toilet and clean it - you will see how badly it stinks, in fact. You are not aware of it if you use air fresheners.

Which "tradition"?

And that`s what shocked me that native Poles had no idea what I was talking about. :(:(:(:(:

native Poles don't know this tradition either

Because only decent Poles and Polesses who want to spend Chrstmas in nice surroundings follow this tradition. hahahahaha

Seriously, it exists everywhere in Poland before Christmas and Easter and I am really surprised Paulina is surprised. Doesn`t she know the expression "Christmas or Easter tidying/cleaning"????

Christmas
sklep.hurtania.pl/blog/24/swiateczne-porzadki-jak-je-rozplanowac-by-w-boze-narodzenie-dom-lsnil-czystoscia

The Christmas tradition is not only Christmas Eve, gifts, the Christmas tree and Midnight Mass, but also general cleaning at home. The cleaning itself must be combined with everyday duties, Christmas shopping, home decoration, and the preparation of Christmas Eve and other traditional holiday dishes. So how to clean the house before the holidays and not go crazy from too many responsibilities?

Easter

Life / Polish sentimental ballads [38]

Certain songs haunt me to listen to them a few times a week.

E.g., Rain, sung by Marek Jackowski, the creator of famous Maanam group, and by a popular singer Maria Jopek. Lyrics by famous poet Gałczyński.

The most beautiful fragment starts at 2:21

I've already told you fifty times
to go away, it's raining,
it's funny to stand face to face like that,
it's really an incredibly funny thing;

to look you in the eye: who saw it?
to watch such a silent film without words under the rain,
to hold one's hand in one's hand: who heard it?
and yet tomorrow we will meet here again -

it's hard to part anyway,
it's hard to part anyway,
well, even if it rains a little, let it rain -

it's still hard to part,
it's hard to part anyway,
I guess the rain must have enchanted us here.

II
There are such beautiful streets in Żoliborz district,
such poplars, and such wind in the tracks.
When evening comes, the electric lights are on
and I feel as good as if I were eight years old;

you say: "Darling!" I tell you: "My love!"
and so we walk crosswise and diagonally, and
in the street that leads to Bielany
there are so many lights, as if Chopin was humming something -

it's still hard to part,
it's hard to part anyway,
well, even if it's raining a little, let it rain -

it's hard to part anyway,
it's hard to part anyway,
I guess the rain must have enchanted us here.

Both of you guessed well but Polo, your actually be correct isn`t a fully correct guess. When you pull sth out of the ass, it is usually fabricated.

This is going to be something obscure,

No, I am dead serious it belongs to the tradition!!

you have a festive toilet seat for the holiday

hahahaha Very funny but no, sorry. Thanks for trying, I really appreciate it.

PS. I am not surprised you can`t guess it. But I am in deep shock that native Poles/Polesses don`t understand my intentions. That is why, don`t feel bad about it. :):):)

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [692]

you put the tree at risk of an early death by suffocating its roots.

Now you prove you know nothing about how agrofabric works. Do some googling and return to tell us why none of the plants covered with it is at risk. :):):) Quite the contrary. It shows you have never had a garden in your life.

It is an extra riddle for you. :):):)

n kill that tree

Mission impossible. :):):) Google about big trees and their roots and come back with the news. :):):

You're using it to frame people you're taking photos of

I was using it with that purpose but it was fully accidental. Do you imagine I wait in our house with the toilet seat in my hand to frame people who might drop by???? hahahahaha

Sorry, even monkeys like me aren`t so pierdolnięte in their mind. :):):):

I haven't heard of it being a particularly well-known festive tradition/custom.

hahahaha Very funny. :):):)

Now think hard - what was I really doing with the toilet seat???

PS. I appreciate your efforts immensely, don`t give up and you will get it, as usual.

I refuse coz I am assertive. Ha! Besides, I am old and know that life is too short to waste it on dealing with the mess by homo sovieticuses, plastic Poles, ritards, mongrels, losers and azholes.

Also baby corn and various kinds of squash.

to sterilise them.

yes, aka pasterise.

You'd not necessarily use a big pan like that

I do need big pots to contain more jars at a time. It is called a green approach. :):):)

Ukrainian in Lithuania

First you mention Ukrainian, then Lithuania on the same breath.
Can you improve that mess? I am grateful to you for making your posts shorter as I always demanded but still you need to work on them. Do it now, rewrite that message to fulfill some basic standards of logic.

Is it something obscure because I have absolutely no idea?

No, it is a widely known and followed tradition at Christmas time.
BTW, what am I holding in the photo in post 51?

something like cow parsley to me.

Wow, indeed, it looks like it from a distance. But it isn`t, it is home made Polish dill as jon suggested rightly. I need a lot of it for my preserves. :):):)

What is this giant pot used for???

News / Russian criticism of Poland - Soviet war memorial removal [332]

where the monument to Ivan Chernyakhovsky stood until 2015

General Czerniachowski is a controversial figure for Poland because he participated in the liquidation of the structures of the Vilnius district of the Home Army, which was the armed force of the legal government of the Republic of Poland in exile. Thus, as historians point out, he contributed to imposing a communist system on Poland against the will of society and in violation of the law. In an interview with PAP, the spokesman of the Institute of National Remembrance, Dr. Rafał Leśkiewicz, noted that General Ivan Czerniachowski is currently used for propaganda purposes by the authorities of the Russian Federation. - However, he is in no way a figure to be worshiped, on the contrary - he is a figure of disgrace. As a Soviet officer, he is responsible for murders, looting and arrests of Home Army soldiers - explained Leśkiewicz.

- Such figures in historical consciousness should only function as criminals and should not be commemorated in any way. The memory of Chernyakhovsky is only associated with his crimes, because this is the truth about this character. Poles should not be grateful for this man's combat activity - emphasized the IPN spokesman and added that "Chernyakhovsky and his monument were a symbol of Soviet totalitarianism, which was introduced on the bayonets of the Red Army at the turn of 1944 and 1945 and led to the enslavement of Poland for many decades." .

See the monument covered with antiSoviet grafitti before dismantling: KAT means hangman, torturer.

News / Russian criticism of Poland - Soviet war memorial removal [332]

Russia said on Saturday it was outraged by Poland's destruction of a Soviet war monument, warning Warsaw of the "most negative consequences"

This thread was started in 2015 after Polish authorities dismantled a monument to a Soviet general who disgraced himself during WW2 by hunting down patriotic Poles/Polesses who rejected communism and Soviet occupation.

Russian ambassador regularly comes to the site with wreaths.
Read the account of the events this year:

Russian ambassador Sergey Andreyev said that he came to lay flowers at the place where the monument to Ivan Chernyakhovsky stood until 2015, "because this is the place where General Chernyakhovsky was mortally wounded 79 years ago."

- The monument was demolished (...) but we come here every year on Chernyakhovsky's memory day - said Andrejew, accompanied by a group of about 20 Poles. They also had flowers (including single red carnations), some had plaques with the image of Christ the King.

Because today, in the place of the demolished monument, there is a cross with a plaque dedicated to the victims of totalitarianism, people accompanying the ambassador brought a portrait of Chernyakhovsky on an easel and flowers were laid under it. After the ceremony, the portrait was taken away.

Representatives of the Ukrainian minority and Poles from the Pieniężno area gathered in the square shouted to Andrejew: "killer" (i.e. murderer), "wash your hands of blood", "we don't want Putin", "don't kill Ukrainian children", "disgrace". The Poles accompanying Andreyev shouted "traitors", "rubles are falling out of your pockets", "agents". The protesters sang, among others: the anthem of Ukraine , folk songs, they played modern anti-Russian songs from the loudspeakers.

When asked whether he considered his behavior provocative, Ambassador Andreyev said "no, because he honors the memory of the hero."

not all the familoki are as charming as those in Nikiszowiec.

Good you find them charming coz I can`t see any charm in those dirty industrial buildings. I would get a deep depression after living there for a month or less. That brown colour reminds me of sth nasty, you know what. :):):)

I need brighter colours on houses:
