Polish Pegasus Spyware Scandal

What do people think about the Pegasus spyware scandal?

Opposition figures claim the Polish government was/is using Israeli malware to spy on the opposition.

The Polish government claims innocence and says maybe it's some foreign country (and seems really uninterested in figuring out who's behind it).

Hopefully the more sensible members of PiS will now see they won't be ruling for ever and will be aware that criminal behavior will be punished eventually.

It's just more of the usual nonsense isn't it? Regardless of who's in government a great deal of time and energy is always devoted to trying to discredit the opposition. Spying on them to try and unroot a 'skandal' is pretty much par for the course. It fills the gap left by the lack of any true political debate.

I'd say it's a bit worse than the usual nonsense... this is government intrusion into foundational and confidential relationships (like attorney-client). Western and civil society cannot survive without confidentiality (any more than they can survive without property rights) so this is a lot more serious than the restaurant bugging scandal (not carried out by a sitting government).

...that only a few can and will follow. A good scandal ... that sells and no thinking is required. A bangs B, B is not A's wife - what can be simpler to understand. I just covered the story in less than 2 seconds.

I think it is a rumor without substance that has been picked up on by the notorious figures on the Polish politcial scene. They are about to be served criminal writ, so they do what they can to deflect and make it political.

Oposition sized another opportunity to cry about PiS.

I'd say it's a bit worse than the usual nonsense.

Say who? Some 'expert'? lol
You buy it becasue you want to buy it.

They were literally informed by 2 sources Apple and Citizenlab. Citizenlab has been involved in helping opposition and reporters in countries with dictatorships for years. Finding truth about them being hacked, anything around digital warfare. They were involved in the investigation of Jamal Khashoggi's death. You can't get better than that. Poland should NEVER have gottem under their crosshair - its grouping us with a really unruly crowd.

Citizenslab reports contain details on how these hacks were uncovered and how they were able to eavesdrop on servers communicating with the victims (afair). These reports can be googled.

If someone has trouble believeing that, then no proof will ever change their mind, unless great Kaczynski comes clean. And that's an illness without a cure. At that point its easier to believe in another international plot to overthrow Poland.

Citizenlab.

Is a joke, they said it might have been used - they don't have any proof.

Yep, an invoice for an old video game console for millions. The leadership in Poland is a bad joke.

Was their investigation in other cases in other countries also a joke? Like the Saudis murder? Was Apple's information also a joke?

You're doing a strawman fallacy here and referring only to the part of the argument. Prosecutor's office should begin an investigation regardless of how jokey is something considered.

Also would be good if you have some citation on "it might have been used". Which btw should also be good enough reason to trigger general prosecutors investigation

@mafketis and anyone else, if you are interested in the topic of NSO group and Pegasus check Darknes Diaries podcast episode 99 and 100

how much do most people know about it?

Why? Do you think that people would care more if they were brianwashed by a diffrent TV? I don't know. I don't watch much TV, I look up Polsat from time to time.

I only know that Giertych and Brejza are know to have issues and to lie. They are investigated due to crminal charges.

Was their investigation in other cases in other countries also a joke? Like the Saudis murder? Was Apple's

Who cares about some foreign entity and its investigation, real or made up. They can work for Putin or China or CIA for all we know. Their credential are low.

Putin or China spying on Giertych? Ridiculous.

Your determination to believe in lies presented by PiS is really amazing.

A very good reason to not investigate! Because Putin or China or the CIA getting involved in local affairs is of no possible strategic importance.

Honk!

No arguments in the debate

What arguments are there?

So far...

Someone else did it (but it doesn't matter who)

No one cares (it is true that the welfare dependent PiS constituency doesn't care)

You're a big doody head!

What about JK admitting to the purchase? apnews.com/article/technology-business-software-spyware-jaroslaw-kaczynski-0c41a504e8fbdbb6b9b06f6869848a48

Of course he could be wrong and just senile rambling. I mean who would admit to something after they were caught?
