Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [305]

it IS quite bad tbh. Like you go into a shop and the two assistants stare at you and start whispering to each other!

Laura Solon is a good actress but she butchers Polish accent quite a lot.

In shops etc, starting off with a warm smile from yourself and laughing at them if they start to be rude makes things better.

I don't think that laughing to yourself when the service is bad is going to change anything.

Service in Poland can be bad indeed no matter you are outsider or the local. You can have a bad experience and then the opposite one right after that. The old women are usually the worst ones, the good thing is that they won't live for ever.

Russian people tend to come as a little arrogant and have unwaranted sense of superiority which can easily be offputing at first sight.

It can't be noticed if you approach them in the same manner before they do it.

As I have lived around the world for ages, I don't have a particular accent but rather a mixture of several accents

Ok, what is your mother language?

Love / How are lesbians seen in Poland (more info inside)? [30]

There is no such a thing like corrective rape in Poland like they do in Africa to lesbian women, you should be very safe in Poland especially in the big cities you won't even get noticed.

Language / Busha and JaJa [140]

it sounds distinctly different from eggs.

Because it sounds like eggs if you spell jaja in Polish

If calling my grandparents by these names makes me subject to ridicule, I have no idea why.

because you called your grandparents in non existing language, don't you think it's a bit funny?

Genealogy / Do I look Polish? (my picture) [375]

My brother and I just came back from Poland and we got a lot of stares wherever we went.

Yes, you pass as Polish very easily, the reason why you got stared is probably because you was talking in English. I'm 100% Polish and I get stared too if I talk in English on the phone.

But we are half Polish/half Texan

Half native American from Texas? I can't see that on the picture though.

I would like to feel like I "fit in" since I spend time over there visiting family. That may never happen though :)

I guess it won't, even if you learn Polish you will have the accent with it.

It's just your luck or rather bad luck with your social circle

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Polish teenagers are sure not polite. They tend to elbow their way to the tram or coach exit as if the word "przepraszam" didn't exist.

All of them? Bullsh1t

Language / Busha and JaJa [140]

I was born in Poland and my parents and grand parents were also born in Poland and spent there their entire lives and nor me nor them have ever heard that "busha" word so it must be some Polish-American slang.

Why make up a word?

I don't know you live there so you ask them and tell us.

Love / Surplus of single women in Poland? [25]

I know having talked to many of these educated women (yes they speak English)

You mean those who are scared of escalators?

have you ever been to and or lived in a poor village in the Podkarpacie?

No, but I have been loads of times in the poor village in Podlaskie, it's even more backwards area. My cousin lives there, he makes his living from his passion/hobby which are bees. He has loads of bee hives and he makes the best honey I have ever seen, he can change the tastes and colour by moving the hives around so the bees make it from different trees and flowers and all that, he is a real genius at it. He also plays acoustic guitar pretty well, when I come round in the summer he's always entertaining at the bonfires. I'm afraid he would make you lower your head and walk away because although he has never lived in Frankfurt, Bruxelles or London he has more passion for life than you will ever have.

It looks like you hang out with people who like to look down on the people from the village. Those in fact are the people full of insecurities and the only way they can make themselves look good is by making some one else look bad, I hope you fit in well.

Love / Surplus of single women in Poland? [25]

what the hell do they find to talk about??

Just because he is a farmer doesn't mean he has no hobbies that would make you look boring in comparison.

Incidentally, are there any Polish guys on here who have experience of dating UK women? How would you compare the two countries as far dating is concerned?

I'm Polish in the UK and I'm passed this. In Poland is much easier and at the same time much more boring.

That may seem like a silly thing to say, unless you know British women, who for two generations have been told that men are weak, stupid and there to be sucker-punched.

Congratulations! You have just won the dumbest statement of the month award. Well done.

Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

The fact that you can not integrate in Germany, or the Uk or Ireland

This is not a fact, this is your fantasy because the fact is that we Poles integrate very well in those countries.

In Poland you are even worse. Can't get a promotion because the "western guy" got it.

Sorry, but what on Earth are you talking about son? lol

Of course, we could just drop the West vs Central vs the East of Europe division altogether and just call it "Europe"

Good point, after all, every Eropean country is diffrent one from another.

The Slavic soul IS different from the Anglo-Saxon and the Romance souls.

Isn't Anglo-Saxon different to Romance soul?

Perhaps that's why I feel so strongly about not calling Eastern Europe "bad."

I'm not saying it is.

To me, personally, the distinction of Central Europe seems a little redundant

It is, but we can always change it if we believe in ourselves and understand who we are.

The birch trees and grassy plains, forests, and twisting rivers.

The landscapes are very diverse in the whole Europe, you are talking like Slavic Europe is some sort of seperate continent with a diffrent climant and landscapes which is a non sens. There are nice landscapes in the West, East, North, South and Center of Europe and in a Slavic countries you have twisted rivers in one country and no rivers in the other. And Germany has loads of beautiful nature and landscapes never changed by people, I have been to Germany many times, especially on the south and I recommend.

such comparisons are usually used as a point of reference

Exactly, I remember Radoslaw Sikorski was giving an interview in English tv and he said that Doda is a Polish Paris Hilton which is just a fast way of decribing someone.
