Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [425]

people who tolerate getting into a car with a drunk driver.

Yep, there are idiots everywhere

I was asked by a group of English men to give them a lift when they knew I was drunk.

But those guys heard a clear "No" and had to order the taxi for themselves

It should be rammed into people's heads that it's not cool to let friends/family drink drive

People are fully aware of that in Poland, I've seen cases of people being let driving in England while drunk. More to that I was asked by a group of English men to give them a lift when they knew I was drunk.

Back in the 70's in the uk it was acceptable to drink and drive

Guess what, I came to the UK in 2004 so it's quite after 70's and people still drink and drive here.

I think that a common trait in the Polish character is alcoholism

Drinking problem can be bad in Poland but as long as we drink less than people in Scotland that are called "p1ss-heads" in England, Poland should be ok.

Life / Poland is something special [9]

mi habla Espanyol

Sorry but if you can't master Spanish or rather trying to fool everyone here that you can and hope nobody will notice then no wonder why you can't master Polish which is much harder language to learn.

It also, controls its borders which, unlike, most of Europe, is not conducive to allowing, undesirables to enter.

That's the best thing about my home country.

Work / How does a person join the Poland's army? [39]

So, have you just proved my point or is Delph right?

Neither. A soldier is obliged to follow orders, orders are made to serve his country he is patriot to.

your most famous sportsman is blinding.

No such a thing like most famous Polish sportsman, one will be more popular in certain circles than the other. But please tell us which name came to your dreamy head while walking the dog.

Language / IS "MURZYN" word RACIST? [686]

IS "MURZYN" word RACIST?

No, it is not.

Either way, look out for the word 'ciapaty'. It's a modern racial slur.

No, it is not, it's commonly used these days mainly in the UK. It's a modern word and you can't replace it with any other word that would have exactly same meaning.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

I'm not going to continue this splitting hair discussion.

We're all very calm here, it's you who is overreacting about people having different opinion to yours.

The Western and Eastern Europe division refers to capitalistic and former communist countries and that's why it's so largely used by whoever around prior to 1989 (I was an adult by then).

Thanks to the wonderful nature there will be less and less people who were adult in 1989, if they don't want to move on, let the ignorance die with them.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

what about all the old women outside main cities wearing colorful headscarves?

So did the old women in Ireland in the 80's so you just put Ireland in Eastern Europe by your standards, well done :-)

@Wulkan; I have no time

Considering that you have the time to create a guest account and carry on posting under new user, it's more like you have no arguments rather than time :-)

... Curtain thing recedes, people will simply see Poland as plain old European with no east or west tagged on to it.

Spot on, I agree with that one. Especially the last bit.
