History / What British unit liberated Poland in 1945?? [445]

some of you thought that you were too special to come

Some of us observed the British etiquette. No invite, no show. You know when in Rome… It just would not be proper crashing the gracious hosts’ party.

You will note that that is not a unit of the Greek army being represented: it is the honour guard to the Greek flag. Poland could have had exactly the same representation

Face the truth man; you just like man wearing skirts. Could have, would have, should have, yet none of it happened.

but the Poles didn't show up

It’s not right for the gentleman to show up at a party uninvited.

Food / Home made fruit vodka from Poland [10]

Nalewki not “nalefki”

polkamaniac “Nalewka” is not samogona or bimber, it’s more like liquor at about 45%.

There’s so many, usually with fruit but they can also be made with herbs, roots, honey and other ingredients even nuts or combination of. It all depends on which one is of interest to you. Was it made of sour cherries? “Wiśniówka” probably most popular.

Basic recipe:
1 kilo of sour cherries
1/2 l of spirytus (You can buy it in US)
1/2 l of vodka (Your favorite)
1/2 l of water
Glass full of sugar.
Boil syrup out of water and sugar. Strain it and let it cool. In a glass jar place sour cherries previously washed, they don’t have to be pitted (I usually add few extra ones, crushed) but be careful there is a benefit to leaving them in as well as they can be harmful. Benefit is that they contain (HCN) which gives the finished product extra flavor as well as extra kick and a slight bitter taste, however in a large enough quantity (HCN) or Hydrogen cyanide can be lethal. Then add few cloves, spirytus and vodka, make a tight seal and leave it in a sunny warm environment for about 4 weeks. Strain to individual bottles. You can consume it right away; however for a better taste place the bottles in a cool dark place for a couple more weeks.

The cherries themselves you can use as garnish on pastry or ice-cream, delicious.

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

So if you wanna blame somebody, blame them for bringing it up time after time.

It’s not a question of who the blame should be assigned to; there is only one true history which many so called historical scholars choose to ignore. From my perspective all I see is negative statements about Poland from the Jews on this forum, and frankly I’m sick and tired of this so in my mind occasional outburst is excused. It’s not YOU personally that I blame; your statement simply coincided with my outburst.

Oh, there was resistance. But it's kinda hard to resist when you're unarmed against heavily armed soldiers who are set on killing you at the slightest pretence, isn't it?

I suppose Poles were much better off in your mind. Besides I suppose the arms and other supplies (not to mention the food) so this futile attempt was to be even attempted were smuggled there by the Germans, French or Dutch? Ungrateful bunch that only know how to accuse and blame others, constantly painting the picture of Polish Anti-Semite in their revision of history and press articles forgetting the true oppressor proving that it does not matter who did what but rather who compensated them in billions of dollars. If they can convince enough people of the lies hammered in by the negative press about Poland for decades, they hope to profit even more. They tell us and others to forget the past and move on while they themselves dwell on it and profit from it. It might sound like an anti-Semitic statement to the brain washed western mind but it’s the truth conveniently ignored by those that profit from Holocaust industry and a casual reader ignorant of small but very important details. You suffered, you were compensated, never forget but it’s time for you to move on.

Food / Do you call it kiszka or kaszanka? [55]

kiszka is still used in Eastern Poland

Perhaps you meant Western Poland because all the people from Eastern Poland were resettled there after the WWII or are we forgetting where we came from already? What are you trying to say? only people from western Poland are modern. Mosiek z kresów hence the nick, I suppose.

BTW you forgot to mention “żymlok”.

News / I suggest a new location on the map for Poland! [44]

You're never gonna win this as long as your stuck in patterns of thinking that are 90 years out of date.

Win what? As far as I see it it’s neither a historical nor intelligent conversation on the subject, just another pissing thread started by xxxx who neither knows what he is talking about nor is funny about it, it’s all in his head. You start a stupid topic you get stupid reply then you cry about it, grow up will you.

implying that despite the outcome of WW2 Poland had a right to that territory anyway. How far back into the past are you willing to go to back up your claims that some land is Polish?

Perhaps you want to think about this one a bit more.

News / I suggest a new location on the map for Poland! [44]

You're right, I am still angry at the British for taking Sri Lanka, South Afrika, New York and parts of Malaysia from us.

There’s a difference between losing a colony and part of your territory. Besides you call that part of territory German land even though it’s in Poland now and still give me this BS quoted above. Answer me this if its part of some country it’s that country, that seems to be your logic all along yet you call it German why? You want to be funny, provocative or you simply like to offend us. Let me tell you, I find you neither funny nor provocative simply ignorant.

News / I suggest a new location on the map for Poland! [44]

So by this you admit that Poland has been using other countries' territory for a long time?

Now How you have reached that conclusion is beyond me.

I'm not ignoring the fact, I don't care about it.

There you go, you not caring is same as ignoring. There’s a fine line between having fun and being offensive. Perhaps you should head your own advice

if you cannot see the humour of this thread and act all offended, then don't reply

What’s the matter? you don’t see the humor in it because it’s true. Just because Germans and Russians used our territory for long time dose not make it theirs, you can ignore it or simply don't care about it but your attitude on the subject won't change that fact or rewrite the history of the land that used to be Polish.

I suggest that we'll move the border to the west coast of the Kamchatka peninsula

Who knows even that might be Polish some day.

And besides, PL has been moved quite a bit to the West, so you guys should be used to your country moving all over the place :)

No, the western borders finally moved to where they were long time ago, somehow you seem to ignore that fact.

So, where does Poland ought to be? It's been moved around quite a bit over time, hasn't it?

It ought to be where it’s at, Poland has not been moved it just shrunk a little over the centuries therefore it should expend east a bit like to Ural mountains, keep the Russians where they belong on the Asian side of the continent and South of course all the way to Jerusalem.

Genealogy / Origins of ruttkofsky or ruttkofska last names [11]

why would my great grandfather have the name with ska ending?????

Your great grandfathers’ name would be Rutkowski and your great grandmother would go by Rutkowska, btw that’s the proper spelling in Polish. It’s a common name, as for the origins I’m sure someone will post here sooner or later. They always do.

History / What Was Happening in Poland around 1905? [73]

Well, on my travels through US I met a lot of people. One of them claimed to be Irish, when I asked how you can be so sure. The answer was because we cook Irish food in my household. Now if you base your ethnicity on the food you eat then sometimes I must be Chinese. That’s Americans for you.

Even today after centuries in Polonia they didn't forgot their roots

Mind you we are talking about Americans, they claim a lot of things. The mixture is high among them.

History / What Was Happening in Poland around 1905? [73]

I doubt that any Pole was forced to say "German"....

Perhaps but it still makes you wonder how many of them really know their roots. They look at the records it said German therefore I’m German.

History / What Was Happening in Poland around 1905? [73]

They didn't care if you were an ethnic Pole, because the country of Poland didn't exist. You came from Russia, so you were an ethnic Russian. You came from the German Empire, so you were a German. What's so difficult to understand?

That’s exactly my point, the results are false, they were Polish by ethnicity yet counted as German even though they were not.

It might come as a shock to you but you can be a US citizen yet still be an American Indian by ethnicity.

Is was speaking from a strictly genealogical perspective.

Then perhaps you should re learn the definitions again.

Of course, because they were Austrian-Hungarian, Russian or German citizens.

You are a Yank; I guess you missed the part where he talks about the ethnic group not citizenship. Am I missing something or you just wanted to put your two cents in where it does not belong.

Did you know that in fact Germans are the largest ethnic group in the US?

You have to take those statistics with a grain of salt. Strictly speaking from my own family history, all of my great grandparents emigrated to US around 1890’s as teenagers. Looking through the US immigration records they were listed as either Austrian or German even though they were Polish. They met and married in the US and they had kids in US. My grandparents were born in US and were US citizens, they came back in 1920’s. My parents and I were born in Poland. Strictly speaking I wonder how many Poles were considered German, Austrian or Russian by the US statistics on immigrants despite the fact they were of pure Polish origin.

but I'm kindly asking you to go to Italy and educate yourself..

Been there, seen it and tasted it. As I have said Chicago was the place where i had my best pizza ever, California probably the worst, now there's food for your thought. It's an opinion based on my experience no need to read into it more than have been stated. You have your opinion, I have my.

Ah, people's fantasies... ;)

You mean it's not true? But I read it in a book. Here's a little excerpt;

I forgot the title of this book and the author. It can be found in a science fiction section of your local library. Just ask your librarian, she will know.

Can you read? A kid was asked to do a report and ask for opinions, shame on you.

Do you honestly think a kid would post at that hour?
