News / RUSSIA TO MAKE PUBLIC THE KATYN FILES... [274]

@dolnoslask
I won't give you an exact name now as it is something I vaguely remember from school but one (British?) woman present at the site after the graves had been discovered pointed out the soldiers' clothes didn't really fit into the season they were supposed to have been killed by Germans.

But Soviets denied everything.
Imagine children of the victims being taught at schools that it hadn't been a Soviet crime. The families knew. .

Just a film but. ..

@Vesko Vukovic
So you put a quote by Piłsudski to make yourself more reliable.
It died work I'm afraid.
We know our past - Poles of Catholic, Jewish and Orthodox religions were killed by Soviets in Katyń and other places around.
Those who signed the orders were of different ethinicies - Russian, Armenian and Jewish if I remember well. Those who took the orders - I don't . Neither do you. Most probably regular soldiers in the Soviet army. I doubt there were no Russians among them.

@call1n
Polish Jews were also killed in Katyń.

Families of the victims were denied the truth for decades. So the least you can do is to stop bringing your anti-semitic propaganda and honour the victims.

@Vesko Vukovic
Stop bringing your anti-semitism into the discussion.
It's such hatred that leads to wars and genocide.

Polish Jews were also among the victims.
Let them all, Catholic, Jewish, Orthodox or whatever else their religion was, rest in peace.

@Ziemowit
As I said above it's a mistake. Though a lot of people make it.

Genealogy / Looking for a town in Germany-Poland (circa 1868-1882) Kronow [3]

There are several places called Kronowo
pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kronowo

I guess all of them would have been in the Prussian partition.

Some records from one of these places are indexed here

@mafketis
You're into linguistics more than I am - you tell me :)
I don't know if you guys know Smolen and Laskowik but in one of their legendary comedy shows Smolen plays a role of a simple lady in a babushka who at some point says 'se zapomniałam' :)

Language / Poszłam or poszedłem [30]

@jon357
My godson also made the same mistake when learning to speak.
In a way poszłem may have resulted from hearing poszłam and just changing the ending to the masculine one but that's just a guess.

Language / Poszłam or poszedłem [30]

The same with Polish liczba and ilość - a lot of people confuse these two.
If the poster says poszłem instead of poszedłem, it's not a big deal as a lot of native speakers of Polish make the same mistake.

However, if he says poszłam then he may get a smirk or two.

I remember reading one of Mark Twain's novels in English and some characters 'used' 'incorrect' English -according to what I had been taught. But was it really incorrect?

Both Ryszard and Jastrzebski are not uncommon names. What year was he born?

Perhaps your right but I would of thought they matter.

Language / Poszłam or poszedłem [30]

Poszłam suggests a female did the action
Poszedłem - a male.

In colloquial speech (incorrect though) some say poszłem instead of poszedłem.

News / Throwing away the constitution in Poland? [626]

Some mayors and presidents refused to organise elections in their towns.
It won't be safe for the voters and the people in the commisions. Especially that the latter have to attend some preparatory meetings.
